As a Harry Potter fan I feel I need to point out that despite the movies as a whole being a pretty good adaptation their are a few points that were done terribly or changed for no good reason for example making Ron an idiot, giving Harry and Ron smarter moments e.g. Hermione being completely calm when they get pass fluffy while in the books Ron was the calm one who had to remind Hermione that she had a wand and didn't need firewood. Not to mention the complete butchering of the half-blood prince making it a rom com with bad jokes and removed most of Voldemort memory scenes and removing the fight between the deatheaters and the order of the Phoenix.

And for some reason in the movies, a 12 year old Hermione already knew offensive wizard slang, "mudblood", even though she was raised in the Muggle world by Muggle parents. In the book, Hermione could only tell it was offensive by everyone's reactions, but didn't know what it meant. It was Ron who explained it. Most of Ron's good lines were given to Hermione.

I’m a HUGE Harry Potter fan and I’m torn with this. Part of me is excited that there’s an opportunity to expand on what the films weren’t able to include, but the other part wants it to be left alone. I reeeally would prefer to see something original like a Marauder’s series or even exploring Beauxbatons.🦋

The CEO of Warner Bros, David Zazlov, is very much anti-woke and wants to make a profit and win over true Harry Potter fans, and Warner Bros. is losing a ton of money from their previous hyper-woke management, including Ann Sarnoff and Walter Hamada. However, Zazlov also allowed Velma to premiere and didn't ax Ezra Miller from The Flash, also.
So there's no telling if this new series will be good because WB needs the money, or another disaster that should've never been made.

My assumption is that the main 3 kids won't be race bent at all, because WB understands that they will kill their viewership with that decision. But they will have a lot of side characters cast as racially diverse, probably way more than what you would typically see at a school in England that is 83% white (especially in the 1990's). However, JKR did give the green light for the Cursed Child play to have Hermoine as a black woman, although Hermoine is described as being white and pale in the books. Then she later made Dumbledore gay, because why not.

      @jcmorgan26 11 месяцев назад +1

@@voluntarism335 I'm torn because on one hand, the fact they're looking to do a faithful adaptation of the books railroads them quite a lot and massively limits the amount of woke shit they can force into it because it simply wasn't a thing the books were concerned with. There was diversity there but it was a far more natural feeling diversity and was largely representative of what the audience interacted with in the real world at the time. If they did a new story there is no reason they can't make it woke because it's new and they can put whatever they want in it so on that front, committing to a faithful adaptation is the safest option.
On the other hand, it would be great to see a marauders series to get a view into that previous generation of witches/wizards. Ultimately, given the apparent need for producers to shoehorn as many politically-driven features into things nowadays, I'd prefer a faithful adaptation to a story we're already familiar with but bringing to life the details that had to be left out in the original movies than a new story that could end up as a black mark on the franchise (look at what the sequels did to Star Wars or what Rings of Power did to Lord of the Rings for example)

I want to see how this goes because I want justice for Ron and Ginny's characters, sassy Harry Potter, and, more importantly, Dumbledore being calm. And as long as she sticks to what she did with casting in the movie (matching the characters with the book) and putting her foot down to be faithful (and add more elements to progress the story further while staying true to the embodiment of Harry Potter, like I want to see more of characters of different houses, especially in Slytherin than just Draco and his gang), then I'm fine. I might watch it because some people are in enrage. But honestly, I wanted a Founders movie or show; I want to know more about Salazar Slytherin or maybe a Marauder show; I am interested in the Black Family (Regulus). They had to cut quite a lot out that were in the books in making the movies. If I were in charge of a Harry Potter TV series, I would make the first season entirely the first book, the second season the second book, etc., and I would follow the books so closely, that the first episode would end with Hagrid busting the door down of the shack where the Dursleys and Harry were. You'd see a sillouette of his massive form and then he'd step out from the shadows, and say to the frightened Dursleys, "Couldn’t make us a cup o’ tea, could yeh? It’s not been an easy journey....", and then the credits would roll.

"The stuff that was left out of the movies wasn’t plot related" That's just not true, a lot of plot and character relevant events have been omitted or heavily streamlined in the films, with GoF and HBP being the worst in that regard. Easy examples would be the heavily butchered backstory of Riddle - which made the reveal of Hufflepuff's cup and Harry identifying it completely random (amongst other things) - the whole situation with Ravenclaw's diadem or Rita Skeeter being an Animagus; but there are many more.
So yes, while even a TV adaptation like this can't include every single detail of the day to day Hogwarts life, it can definitely nail the important bits and finally "fix" the exclusion of a lot of characters - e.g. Winky or Peeves - expand on the ones that just came out of nowhere in the films - e.g. Bill - give others the proper arc they deserve - e.g. Ginny, Neville, the "Lupin's" and Kreacher - and most importantly include all the missing storylines.
The question that remains to be answered is whether or not they can pull it off. HBO does have a pretty good track record with adaptations though, as long as they have source material to follow.

Everything from the book, Pottermore, and other stuff, will be included in the series. Then and now. It will be a huge heavy series packed with diverse information.....well that's thier plan anyway.

    1) I didn't particularly like the movie adaptations past the PofA one (I didn't really like movies 1-3 either but that's a different matter), therefore I'm so excited to hear that a long-term tv adaptation is coming out that will be more faithful to the book details. My friends and family literally can't wrap their heads around why I'm so excited.
    2) I kinda want Maggie Smith to make at least a brief appearance. I get why she might not but she's a great actress and I really love her work, particularly in HP. I will also miss Alan Rickman and Robbie Coltrane (R.I.P.).
I will forever adore the book series and the Wizarding World. Can people please stop ruining my favourite childhood nostalgia over screwed up chronically online politics that most of the world doesn't give a shit about?

If it is done properly, This show could be amazing. If it isn't it will be a huge black mark on the franchise like the Star Wars sequel trilogy or the Amazon Rings of Power series. The fact they appear to be putting a lot of emphasis on it being faithful to the books gives me hope (as does the inclusion of J.K. Rowling which will hopefully stop them making too many "creative decisions") but I've not seen nearly enough to be confident it will be a good show that we should support yet

I'm making a prediction: Hermione will be black and Harry some other non-white or mixed race.
Draco will be gay (for Harry). Also Lupin and Sirius will be a couple, so Tonks will probably be a lesbian.
The elves will all want to be freed, unlike in the books where they were largely against interference.
Ginny will probably be Bi, as will at least one of the twins.
Dumbledore will either be wearing a pride flag as a robe, or will have one in his office.
S.P.E.W. will exist and be a main focal point, and heavily different from the books.
There will be at least one boy wearing the girl's uniform in the background of most any scene. He will also be in the girls dorm if its ever shown, and the stairs won't reject him bc ofc not.

Three things which disappointed me about the original movie run was the lack of Peeves, Quidditch being shoved to the sideline, and (minor, but forgivable) the Dursleys disappearing even though they did have deleted scenes. They looked so miserable. One thing I'm _glad_ they left out from the book was Percy's betrayal to the family when becoming Fudge's suck up Yes Man.
Now as a formerly obsessed fan of the books/movies (now just casual. I've branched out!) I just hope they don't keep milking this franchise for the next 30 years. It'll lose its steam and become the next _Smurfs_ which... might still have fans ... but for the most part largely ignored by the populous.

I am frankly excited for this series, and let me explain why. I prefer the book series over the movies! I remembered watching after reading the books and thought "Oh, I wished that they added this and this and this on to the movie, because some of this would explain so much". Granted, I am aware of the budget and time while filming movies and I was glad that they put the last book into 2 movies, but still left out a few things. And I have been wanting a TV series of Harry Potter forever and didn't care if it is live action or anime! There is soooo many opportunities that this series can do what the movies can't! I would love the series introduced Peeves, Peeves was only mentioned in the first movie. I would loved to see Nick's Deathday Party. I would loved to see Winky and Hermiones passion of SPEW(if you had read the series, you know...), Professor Binns teaching of History of Magic. Some of this and more was never shown in the movies but some were in the video game of Hogwarts Legacy! I would also like to see an expansion of the Wizarding World, Like Founders of Hogwarts, Merlin's time at Hogwarts, Lily and James and the rest of the Mauraders years in Hogwarts and time up to the time he dies. I would love all of it
I should add that TV series from nearly any book series have a better success rate for fans, than if was of a movie or a TV adaptation to a movie. Game of Thrones, I am glad that they made a TV series than making a movie of Song of Ice and Fire. Walking Dead started off as a comic book series, became one of the biggest TV series for a few years, if it was in the theatres, it would be just another zombie movie! Imagine that they just stuck with a movie series If you want to go further back, Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a movie and it bombed...big! But became the most watched series of it's time and still have a cult following. I should also add that Disney+ is releasing a TV series of Percy Jackson and the Olympians(I know Disney+, most likely going to be woke af, but I think I'll watch it anyways), there were many books in this series and only came out with 3 movies. Now let's talk about Chronicles of Narnia, they only made 3 (4 movies in total) movies and there are 7 books and made Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe 2 times(one was animated and done in the 70s). I would be excited for a TV series if they decide they go that route.

A few years ago Netflix released a show based on one of my favorite book series, A Series of Unfortunate Events, they worked closely with the author and actually added new elements to the story and gave us more context to some things, so maybe HBO and JKR will do the same and answer some questions that were left unanswered in the books. Whatever it's gonna be, I'll watch it cause the movies didn't do the books any justice. Remakes allow a studio to go back and fix some/most of the presented flaws that could be found in a series. The remake being a show adds to this because, depending on the length of a given episode, a season could run longer than a movie. This means that there is the ability to reintroduce cut content to the cinematic series. This effectively makes the series more book accurate.

Tbh I would actually like to see a reboot where the books are accurately covered, because this series is going to give the producers so much more time to cover what was in the books.
The cons of this reboot are that they are probably gonna shove lgbt characters in where there previously were none and I've also heard that they are gonna make Hermione black. Imagine if Hermione were black and the books but was casted as white in the show, there would certainly be an uproar from the left. And honestly, I don't really care too much if Hermione is black as long as the show doesn't make it a big deal. In short i just don't want the new "diversity" of LGBT and non- white characters to take away from the original plot with some random add ins about their identity 😭

The thing about so much of the book's story being left out of the film's, that's what separates the two art forms
The books have more things going on which gives them their own appeal over the films
And the films can use their bold direction and visual style to tell those stories on a much grander scale compared to the books
There is a reason to check out both the book's and film's stories as neither overshadow the other
So if they're making a TV show where they plan to cover more of the book's stories that was missed out on in the films and on a grand scale like the films because the line between TV show and films is so blurry nowadays, that bonus to check out the books and the films over each other is gone. Now it doesn't matter if you read the books because all the story is just there ready to watch nor does it matter to watch the films because they have less story points and because films and TV just look the same visually nowadays anyway. Longtime fans will always revisit the books and films, but when the show brings in new fans (which a franchise is supposed to do) they'll have little reason to see where it all began.

The movie adaptations of the first few books were fairly loyal to the entire story. Beginning with the fourth book, the adaptations were woefully incomplete. How does the Goblet of Fire story work without Winky? It cannot. Without Winky there is no explanation or even **clue** about Barty Crouch Jr.'s escape from Azkaban. Don't even get me started on Deathly Hallows and its criminal under-telling of the actual story.

I'm a huge fan, with some pretty odd theories on how some things happened; hopefully some of these will get attention.
Example: How did Dumbledore always know what the Golden Trio were up to? It's easy: Chocolate Frog cards. Subjects of portraits, it is later revealed, can move from one to another of their own portraits, or to any other portrait in the building where their original is located. Dumbledore didn't mind that he was removed from the Wizengamot, or any of the other titles he lost, after GoF, "as long as they don't take me off the Chocolate Frog card." If they had, he might have lost his 'spyglass'.

To be fair, the original films were NOT faithful to the books. Quidditch disappeared almost completely after the first few films, entire sequences of the 5th and especially 6th books disappeared or were glossed over. I haven't watched them recently and could undoubtedly come up with a host of more things that were missing or changed over the course of the 8 films.
The thing is, for long/complicated books (Lord of the RIngs, Harry Potter, etc) that have a lot of world-building and events transpire, they just naturally translate better into a TV show than a film series because you inevitably have to cut things out in order to do it. So I am all for a HP reboot. This isn't a movie being remade as a movie, like most of what we're dealing with. This is a movie being turned into a TV show, which is very different. Also, while the final film released 12 years ago, the first film released 22 years ago. This can provide a whole new generation of children with an adaptation of an awesome series that also provides all the technological advancements we've made over the last 2 decades. Or have we forgotten how ridiculous Hermione looked after she ate essence of Millicent (polyjuice potion)?
If JK Rowling can keep a tight leash on WB/HBO, then I think this could be a very good thing and I'm tentatively excited to find out.

It kinda makes sense: instead of a 90 minute movie for the first book, you can do a 4 * 40 minutes miniseries, that way you don't cut any element from the books (like certain ghosts), and given that each subsequent book is longer than the previous one, you can add one episode per series: season 2 - 5 episodes, season 3 - 6 episodes, etc.
