Making A $3000 Damascus Chef Knife

- My dad is crafting something remarkable - a Western-style chef's knife that goes beyond the ordinary. What sets it apart is the incredible feather pattern he's intricately designing on the blade. Envision a beautiful design resembling feathers, and that's precisely how the blade will appear!
To enhance the knife's uniqueness, the handle is crafted from Honduras rosewood burl. This wood not only offers strength and durability but also boasts an exquisite pattern. Picture holding a knife with a handle that provides an excellent grip and looks stunning!
And that's not all - my dad is adding a special touch with a custom copper alloy spacer. This spacer not only introduces a cool metallic accent to the knife but also serves to harmonize the entire design. It's like the finishing touch that makes the entire knife truly stand out.
In essence, my dad is fashioning a chef's knife that transcends its practical purpose - it's a genuine work of art. From the captivating feather pattern on the blade to the elegant rosewood burl handle and the gleaming copper alloy spacer - it's destined to become an extraordinary and unique kitchen tool!

Dad. How are you not a Master Smith yet? That knife is absolutely exquisite and the damascus is absolutely incredible.
I couldn't agree more! The Royers make the absolute best knives, bar none
As you get older in life, titles mean less and less, as long as you enjoy what you're doing. That's what is important.
He is a Journeymen Smith. He just got it this past year, so he should be eligible to test for Master in a couple years I think.
takes time and steps but first you master the skills, then you take the test. Those test for master put your knife under extream pressure, so him being able to make a knife that not only looks great but to be able to hold an edge under any condition you throw rather a 2x4 or not then to be able to past the deflection testing is rather an impressive test.
Truly a work of art. Master in my eyes for sure.
You did a killer job on that knife, dad. The feather damascus and handle came out absolutely gorgeous.
I wish I had the love you guys put into your work for my own. You can clearly see the pride and honest desire to make something special.
400k subs? Wow, you come soooo far! I remember you at like 3k. Never stop Royer family!

I love the details on the knife- especially on the profiling. Great build!
Absolutely the finest. Thank you!
That’s insane. Papa Royers knives remind me of a timeless piece, almost like a beautifully crafted antique. This whole family is gifted.
Watch out, Kyle Dads, coming for you. Another beautiful job. Thanks for taking us along 👍.

That billet was impressive. I've yet to see something that big being forged welded together. Amazing knife !
Insanely good!
Fascinating to watch, exquisite to behold.
I can’t afford something like this. But I can admire the craftsmanship and beauty on RUclips 🤩 Bravo! 👏

This is becoming my fav channel on YT. Great job to all the Royer family
Hey thanks my friend. Merry Christmas.
Dad
Beautiful design man
When I'm feeling low, I like to watch the Dad series of builds, especially the one that looks like a shotgun.
Beautiful job. The angled bolster is something that I feel like I don't see very often and it really goes hard here.
Beautiful knife
Thanks for the video
nicely done 👍. I like the flow of the feather. This non narrated/ASMR style video was enjoyable
Beautiful
That feather damascus is absolutely beautiful. I like it better than any mosaic pattern. That and raindrop are my favorites. I fortunately have a raindrop knife that I purchased at a mountain man rendezvous several years ago for a great price. Beautiful work sir!
Absolute beautiful damascus blade! The wood handle is gorgeous as well! I think I see a Master Smith on the horizon! Great work! 🤔😁👍
very nice pattern on the blade!
Your craftsmanship is excellent. Great work.
A voice over would be great.
This blade is absolutely gorgeous. It is isn't gaudy but it has an elegance and lustre that seems almost organic but is in fact the result of pains-takingly exact work. Beautiful.
Terrific work on that feather billet. A real stunner Jeff!
Hey thanks my friend. Merry Christmas.
Dad
The shape of that knife is gorgeous, and I personally really like the inclusion of tarnished bronze/brass/copper paired with a nice dark wood. If I ever find myself in a position where I can justify it, I'll toss an order your way.
Great video keep em coming
An absolutely stunning chef's knife
Hey thanks
Excellent!
Beautiful knife, love that type of handle material! Regards from Down Under.
Thanks for uploading again. Feed my addiction dad

Hey thanks Todd. Merry Christmas.
Dad
Awesome job mr ROYER good luck. God bless you and your family
Hey thanks Tony. May God bless you and your crew as well. Merry Christmas.
Dad
I have often wondered why some knives are so expensive….this shows why and that for this level, $5k is a bargain for a professional chef. Just stunning craftsmanship!
Lot of hours go into it. Also those patterns take lots of skills to know how to pull off, the more complicated the more steps in forging, more layers a kinfe has more hrs goes into the forge process also. End product also tends to be better though for holding an edge, as you have more layers of steel .
Incredible.
Feather is my favorite pattern
Great knife Jeff. I like your voice over on your videos.
Beautiful - of course, you know that - you meant it to be. The only thing I missed on this video was your buttery smooth narration.
I would be super interested to see how you’d tackle something like a feather Damascus possibly differentially hardened tanto!
I gotta say, you guys make some of the most beautiful knives I've ever seen. I have been making knives for the last 8 years and I am no where near this quality of work. I aspire to this quality of work although I'm in my 20's with low time to muck around in the shed and hone my skills, my life goal is to make a knife that can be appreciated by an important person and I will always come back to your videos and various knife makers for inspiration and motivation to eventually become a master smith.
Hey thanks Jack. You keep reaching up my friend. We are in your corner. Merry Christmas.
Dad
I definitely bought one of these a little over a year ago! Slightly different handle but still!
Spectacular!
Hey thanks. Merry Christmas my friend.
Dad
Happy holidays to you my friend...@@KyleRoyerKnives

Dad
wow, Gorgeous. I wish i could afford a blade like that. Fantastic S grind
I'm a wood worker. Have no intention on ever doing forging. But man, you earned a subscription off the beautiful craftsmanship. That is mind blowing. Keep it up man, stunning work!
Hey thanks Rich. Merry Christmas.
Dad
Jeff, amazing workmanship! You seem like the older more kitchen style knives, I like that, it shows a more practical side to the knife. Pity that you did not show us some pre-Covid sanding methods. Loved the humor in that video. Anyway again beautiful work Jeff, really something to be proud off !👌🏻
Hey thanks Yogi. Merry Christmas.
Dad
Exelente !!! Saludos desde Argentina 🇦🇷🇦🇷
Hey thanks Manuel. May God bless Argentina, you, and your crew. Merry Christmas my friend.

Hey thanks my friend. Merry Christmas.
Dad
I'm so glad to see something new on this channel. Jeff you are truly a great bladesmith. I've always enjoyed watching how you make your gorgeous knives and swords. However I have been worried about Kyle because I haven't seen anything from him lately. Hopefully he is ok.
You can see him in the background at one point
Hey thanks my friend. Kyle’s continually working. Josh just posted several of mine recently. Merry Christmas.
Dad
I'm just a couple of minutes into the video and already missing the velvet-smooth voice over of Dad Royer. Love the shop noises, though. 😀
Hey thanks my friend. I’m feeling the love. Merry Christmas.
Dad
She is a work of art
Hey thanks. Merry Christmas.
Dad
Amazing, simply beautiful. I wouldn’t pay $3,000 for any knife but if I did, that’s the one.
Royer Sr. rocks!
Great job dude!! How long does it take to heat up a billet like the first one?
What is that handle material? It's beautiful
Best of the best 💥💥💥💥👍👍👍
Masters ❤
I wish you would add commentary to the video. Explaining the steps.
I have learned a lot from your explanations on other videos.
Words for once fail me Brother! That knife is a work of art ……
Hey thanks my friend. Merry Christmas.
Dad
Absolutely beautiful 😍! But I don't think I could make it my everyday knife where I work lol, I think I would unalienable someone if the bumped it and knocked it to the ground 😂
It looks more like Gyuto.
I don't think I'd like the handle style but the knife is ( as always :) beautiful.
Wow
How did they used to do the pressing tho? I wonder 🤔 just a big hammer probably, lots of work
Nice work.
Why is that chop saw on the ground? 😂
❤beauty❤
WOW🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
