I am a christian and this movie was so transforming.....I did not find it blasphemous, like many of my fellow church goers, rather i more deeply understood the difficultly Christ's decision to save us. His earthly struggles are usually not covered in a movie, rather his agony and suffering, but what of the mental anguish. We are an unlovable people, hard-hearted and quick to judge and condemn...this movie made me appreciate his human side. The book is very closely followed for this movie adaptation. I would recommend this movie to anyone struggling with their faith. Beautiful and tranformative.

I though the same with this great film, somethimes we can be struggled with problems AND things of the past, I loved the movie for this, the writer himself said that the story Is about the human spirit against evil inclination and struggles

In response to some of the comments here:
the second act of this film quite literally is a take on Jesus as man, living on earth. People can dislike the film all they want but it showcases no blasphemy; the judgement people are placing upon Jesus as depicted in this film is their own. Jesus doesn't sin. He doesn't turn away from God. He does, in practicality at least, that of which he was said to do in the bible up until the point in which he goes on to live "a normal life."
Obviously this is the point which the film diverges from the source material. And yet it's an important look at an incredibly helpful topic: people choosing themselves over God. The second act showcases Jesus attempting to live out his life as man, ignoring his purpose to avoid suffering. This culminates in an ultimate regret and understanding that he'd rather suffer on behalf of all of man in order to bridge the divide between them and God, rather than live a lie free of this suffering. This IS Christ-like. To forsake oneself for the benefit of others. And to come to this conclusion within oneself is the very essence of the latter half of this film.
It's an interpretation and a parable in a sense meant to deliver wisdom and it holds value. This is no different than parables contained within the bible itself.
Enjoyable film if I do say so myself. Thanks for the upload.

People prefer Paul's Jesus. They prefer the Almighty over the Martyr. They prefer to admire and respect the powerful, the winners, the exceptional over the weak, the losers, the commoners. Most people are unable to appreciate what it means to admire the good ones if they were defeated. They laugh at them, they call them idiots, naive, dumb, instead of despising those that keep the altruistic ones from succeeding.

I don't believe the normal life part even actually happened if you watch the transition of him repenting and going back to the cross I think the temptation was the normal life not that he ever actually picked it because after he saw that he smiled clearly in victory over this last temptation from the devil.

It is a song of sorrow - reflecting the existential struggle of Kazantzakis:
...to reconcile circumspect Apollon with the passion of the _'chtonic Zeus'_ that is Dionysos Eleutherios.

I don’t understand the haters of this movie. I am a new believer, but have always loved this film. I keep meaning to read the book it was adapted from. The Bible is the best, but other adaptations can help bring some people to it.

You really don't have to be religious too understand what jesus was about.
If you had a good childhood and was brought up right.
