I guess no matter which time period you pick, any country and any empire will eventually fall. We had a gigantic Napoleon-era France, we had a giant USSR, we had a German attempt at an empire, a Mongol empire, we had Romans, Greeks, Babylonians, Africa was colonized by different european countries and freed up again, the Incas and Mayans came and went. Egypt is just a shadow of its former glory. Given enough time, even the US and the EU will shatter. So in history there is more of a "breathing" than a win and lose. One century, you'll breathe in and expand, next century you'll return to smaller than before. Then the expansion returns. As for the biggest expansion and the least current significance following it I'd probably set the Spanish in. We kept mathematics from the Babylonians (numeric systems based on 12 and 60s - like "a dozen", our 60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes to the hour, 2 x 12 hours for a day) and the Greek (a lot of rules in mathematics and music), the diplomatic language is French, the internationally most taught language is English (though a mix of US and UK versions), China is currently the most important business partner for most countries. And even though not by ancient or long-term the Suez Canal is part of the biggest achievements for Egypt since the pyramids. In architecture we are currently still amazed by the seemingly indestructible cement used by Romans as their buildings don't suffer from structural damage like modern cements. I'm not sure how much Germany is helpful when looking at history, but I guess even a bad example may serve for something. Although they didn't even have the original idea for the most atrocious camps ever build. One thing is for certain, even though their significance has plummeted, Spain and Portugal left us with most of south america speaking their language. I almost forgot the French for giving us the standards we use today for measurement (metric system, where all units are based on - even US values are exact conversions from meters and defined by that). The world is a seesaw - your country will be on top, but it will have to go down to let another rise. Otherwise there would be no progress and it would get boring.
I must explain the latter part of Polish military meme: See, in 2020 we had corona and this meant closure of borders between EU members. However since borders in EU aren't clear in every place, so Polish soldiers "accidentally invaded Czech Republic" by stepping a bit too far and restricting access to a Czech chapel, de facto occupying it.
@Mr. Terry History - Phalanx was OP until the gun... well, final nail, sure. But the Catapult, Trebuchet, and Ballista had a pretty negative effect on any tightly grouped formation. Sure, they can move... but a skilled few big rocks followed by a cavalry charge would be devastating. Pretty sure the Romans knew how to do that. Just a thought...
Funny thing is just saw a guy go over the history of submarines and how a British Guy in the US really started the modern submarine era with a company that grew into one of the major US manufacturing corporations
Ideas from Absolute History: Hidden Killers of the Era is a favorite because I like to see how normal people lived. They also have a series about spices, which is so much more interesting than I expected: it gets into the perspective of the indigenous people.
As for the polish military meme the only interpretation that imho makes sense is that our military in recent years got heavily politicized and mostly guards various memorial sites, and overall seems to care more about pleasing politics rather than being actual military
One point of correction: Europe did not give the Americas horses. They gave them *back.* Horses evolved in North America then went locally extinct until a bunch of obnoxious apes reintroduced them to the ecosystem.
Would be interesting from a military tactical standpoint to analyze what they do in that. The central difference is that magic is a thing in that world. They're using it to stand in for the more nuanced military tactics and equipment that made Germany successful initially in WW1 with them munging in aspects of WW2. I haven't read the original source, but I'm really curious if the series touches on the Pacific colonies that Japan took from Germany in the real WW1.
"Stop weebifying everything in history" No, now go watch Maria the Virgin Witch, about a witch in France during the Hundred Years' War. Don't let the name put you off, it's not a hentai.
BBC Top Gear basically proved that those trucks were indestructible. They dropped it on a building, drowned it, set it on fire, crushed it. Still could get it running.
I had a friend in elementary school whose family Fled Bosnia because they lived on the Meša Selimović Boulevard. It was crazy to me, even as a kid, that there had been a series of wars that had been going on almost my entire life without me ever hearing about them
The first submarine wasn't invented in the civil war. It was a sealed one man manual power submarine used in the revolutionary war against the British.
well speaking of old ships i actually looked and thought about which countries still have one USS constitution-USA HMS victory-UK Amerigo Vespucci-Italy usual come to mind first, but a lot have seemingly seaworthy replicas of ships exist all over the place. santa maria-madeira the golden hind-UK HMS rose=UK HMS Endeavour-UK Kalmar Nyckel-sweden Götheborg-sweden Shtandart-russia Goto Predestinatsia-russia lady washington-USA Hector-canada La Grace-Czech Republic Hermione-france and i thought, wouldn't it be good to get them all together and race them, or start a tournament between countries to each build ships specifically to race each other say every 2 years or something. because i look at all these old events like the race from europe to australia that saw the creation of the mosquito, why dont we do races like that anymore.
5 wars not involving the US or euopean countries? easy: Imjin War, Boshin War, Sengoku Jidai, first mongol invasion of japan, second mongol invasion of japan. there: 5 wars just from japan. next china: first and second Sino-Japanese War, War of the three Kingdoms, Sino-Indian War, Chinese Civil War.
MR Terry, there are games and animes about girl battleships ranging from ww1 up to today. We also got Azur lane, Hetalia and many more were we weeb history. German panzers with big badonkas for the win.
11:35 makes me think what if the ERE and Persia teamed up to destroy the Islamic caliphates think about it there are plenty (mostly modern but still) examples of strong rivalry’s putting aside their differences to fight off a bigger threat such as the UK and France against Germany or the USA and USSR against… Germany ok I know what about Turkey and Greece every time someone attacks the other those 2 really won’t let each other die from other countries they want to be the one to kill the other
You, uh... might want to look up where "weeb" comes from. It's a derogatory term for fans of Japanese culture derived from a derogatory term for Japanese people. I don't think that's a word you want to adopt.
Hungary winning a war the last time? The first and second invasion of the Tatars in 1241 and 1285. After that the last king of Árpád's house (after that our kings were pretty much foreigners, some good, most really bad) finished a castle system he ordered which came handy since it helped Hungary defend against the Ottomans for a long time until 1521 when the Ottomans broke through and things went from bad to worse. The corruption amongst the nobility - which was always bad - became worse, Hungary was mostly occupied and split in three. From there it's been a downhill ride for Hungary. I mean after the Tatars, there was a "successful" king, King Mathias, but that guy was a bloody tyrant and fought his wars using a mercenary army called the Black Army because he did not trust Hungarians, also, he was Croatian. Here's the Himnusz (Anthem or Hymn), Hungary's national anthem in English, you'll get the idea how traumatized my people are. It's not a happy song, and it was written in the 19th century, a modernized version would be SO MUCH worse... O God, bless the nation of Hungary With your grace and bounty Extend over it your guarding arm During strife with its enemies Long torn by ill fate Bring upon it a time of relief This nation has suffered for all sins Of the past and of the future! You brought our ancestors up Over the Carpathians' holy peaks By You was won a beautiful homeland For Bendeguz's sons And wherever flow the rivers of The Tisza and the Danube Árpád our hero's descendants Will root and bloom. For us on the plains of the Kuns You ripened the wheat In the grape fields of Tokaj You dripped sweet nectar Our flag you often planted On the wild Turk's earthworks And under Mátyás' grave army whimpered Vienna's "proud fort." Ah, but for our sins Anger gathered in Your bosom And You struck with Your lightning From Your thundering clouds Now the plundering Mongols' arrows You swarmed over us Then the Turks' slave yoke We took upon our shoulders. How often came from the mouths Of Osman's barbarian nation Over the corpses of our defeated army A victory song! How often did your own son aggress My homeland, upon your breast, And you became because of your own sons Your own sons' funeral urn! The fugitive hid, and towards him The sword reached into his cave Looking everywhere he could not find His home in his homeland Climbs the mountain, descends the valley Sadness and despair his companions Sea of blood beneath his feet Ocean of flame above. Castle stood, now a heap of stones Happiness and joy fluttered, Groans of death, weeping Now sound in their place. And Ah! Freedom does not bloom From the blood of the dead, Torturous slavery's tears fall From the burning eyes of the orphans! Pity, O Lord, the Hungarians Who are tossed by waves of danger Extend over it your guarding arm On the sea of its misery Long torn by ill fate Bring upon it a time of relief They who have suffered for all sins Of the past and of the future!
Who are the biggest losers in world history?
People not subscribed to Mr Terry History.
Austria-Hungary got absolutely slapped in WW1
1:20 no he didn’t move he’s visiting Spain he was in Barcelona but idk where he is now
Lauri Törni who fought in 3 armies and lost two (possibly all three) of them.

The polish army meme is about the polish army accidentaly invading a czech church
9:40 Shout out to my boy Vladdy P, NATO salesman of the decade!
5:33 This made me laugh way more than it probably should have.
Edit: 13:18 Another reason to love Jimmy Carter.
pretty boyboypretty botBurannya pretty
you can't tell the animators over in Japan and the manga makers over in Japan NOT to do make stuff based on history, hetalia exists
As for the polish military meme the only interpretation that imho makes sense is that our military in recent years got heavily politicized and mostly guards various memorial sites, and overall seems to care more about pleasing politics rather than being actual military
To raczej chodziło o incydent z czeską kapliczką.
Mr Terry our ships dont need style when they have big boom guns and bombs.
One point of correction: Europe did not give the Americas horses. They gave them *back.* Horses evolved in North America then went locally extinct until a bunch of obnoxious apes reintroduced them to the ecosystem.
MrTerry not realising that Saga of Tanya the Evil exists. (I know it is not history, but it is an alt history scenario, so...)

That or Bare Foot Gen. Shouldn't discount a story because of the medium. There are plenty of history themed animated features that are good.
Drew is actually on Vacation if you need know
BBC Top Gear basically proved that those trucks were indestructible. They dropped it on a building, drowned it, set it on fire, crushed it. Still could get it running.
Hilux for the win!
I had a friend in elementary school whose family Fled Bosnia because they lived on the Meša Selimović Boulevard. It was crazy to me, even as a kid, that there had been a series of wars that had been going on almost my entire life without me ever hearing about them
Unless you are 6 years old that is not exactly true, all wars lasted for about 4 yeaes since 92 to 94-5ish and briefly in 99 for afew months
Never thought I would be so early too a video
The first submarine wasn't invented in the civil war. It was a sealed one man manual power submarine used in the revolutionary war against the British.
At 9:10 I would have to say it's also because Simo Häyhä also known as The White Death.
well speaking of old ships i actually looked and thought about which countries still have one
USS constitution-USA
HMS victory-UK
Amerigo Vespucci-Italy
usual come to mind first, but a lot have seemingly seaworthy replicas of ships exist all over the place.
santa maria-madeira
the golden hind-UK
HMS rose=UK
HMS Endeavour-UK
Kalmar Nyckel-sweden
Götheborg-sweden
Shtandart-russia
Goto Predestinatsia-russia
lady washington-USA
Hector-canada
La Grace-Czech Republic
Hermione-france
and i thought, wouldn't it be good to get them all together and race them, or start a tournament between countries to each build ships specifically to race each other say every 2 years or something.
because i look at all these old events like the race from europe to australia that saw the creation of the mosquito, why dont we do races like that anymore.
3:12 No, they're talking about Canada's war crimes during WW1 and WW2 not their treatment of the indigenous population of Canada
Dank memes melt steel beams
A lot of invetions/advancements are byproduct of military reasearch. I.e. MRI was trying to make radar better and came up with MRI capability
The kings man movie end credit scene introduces hitler after the war and it’s extremely ominous
More! MORE!!!
Drew’s always good! Loving this channel, recently subbed after one of the Palestine-Israel vids.
That phalanx meme doesn't make sense considering the turtle formation.
I take offence to your hot take on self-propelled ships looking bad Aircraft carrier look really good imo
WW2 is the sequel nobody asked for
You really should study channels like Chris Raynor's, perfect it, and then attempt a come back.
Or if you're feeling exceptionally bold, Kahn Academy.
Fun fact my state of North Carolina did not succeed from the Union until federal troops invaded the south than we dipped out of the union
The South attacked first. They also raised an army first. And invaded My home state of Kentucky. Fuck the confederacy
Don't let your dreams be memes... instead make memes your dreams and dream of epic historical facts xd
MR Terry, there are games and animes about girl battleships ranging from ww1 up to today. We also got Azur lane, Hetalia and many more were we weeb history. German panzers with big badonkas for the win.
Ah man... who put my picture up here? Not cool.
Whats it like being a historian or history teacher with all of these worlds first like?
Submarines are supposed to sink. Lol
14:18 it's about situation from 2020 when becouse of Covid Polish military occupied a church in a Czech Republic

We're on the same page with sweet potatoes, they're disgusting and shouldn't be eaten by anyone
History is a cute anime girl, didn't you know? EVERYTHING IS A CUTE ANIME GIRL!
5:13 Mr Terry sounds like talking Ben 😂
There's gonna' be a sequel to WWII. It'll be called...
HITLER part 2: No More Mister Nice Guy
"Stop weebifying history"
*no*
Das finale part 4 soon, my GuP brethren
You, uh... might want to look up where "weeb" comes from. It's a derogatory term for fans of Japanese culture derived from a derogatory term for Japanese people. I don't think that's a word you want to adopt.
Hot take: Think of Türkiyesh food without turkey.
NOOOO MR TERRY, SWEET POTATO IS THE BEST!!!!
weeb here, watch saga of tanya the evil
You say this, but weebery spreads historical memes further.
Lol
5:58 sorry but that a impossible task.
I agree Anime and history should not mix
Yeah, they should instead fuse and create a history of the world anime longer than One Piece.
Nah, everything’s better as anime, sorry, weeb expansion is non-negotiable
Honestly wondering how the Badass USS Texas got into a history meme video about history's biggest losers when uts a winner.

O God, bless the nation of Hungary
With your grace and bounty
Extend over it your guarding arm
During strife with its enemies
Long torn by ill fate
Bring upon it a time of relief
This nation has suffered for all sins
Of the past and of the future!
You brought our ancestors up
Over the Carpathians' holy peaks
By You was won a beautiful homeland
For Bendeguz's sons
And wherever flow the rivers of
The Tisza and the Danube
Árpád our hero's descendants
Will root and bloom.
For us on the plains of the Kuns
You ripened the wheat
In the grape fields of Tokaj
You dripped sweet nectar
Our flag you often planted
On the wild Turk's earthworks
And under Mátyás' grave army whimpered
Vienna's "proud fort."
Ah, but for our sins
Anger gathered in Your bosom
And You struck with Your lightning
From Your thundering clouds
Now the plundering Mongols' arrows
You swarmed over us
Then the Turks' slave yoke
We took upon our shoulders.
How often came from the mouths
Of Osman's barbarian nation
Over the corpses of our defeated army
A victory song!
How often did your own son aggress
My homeland, upon your breast,
And you became because of your own sons
Your own sons' funeral urn!
The fugitive hid, and towards him
The sword reached into his cave
Looking everywhere he could not find
His home in his homeland
Climbs the mountain, descends the valley
Sadness and despair his companions
Sea of blood beneath his feet
Ocean of flame above.
Castle stood, now a heap of stones
Happiness and joy fluttered,
Groans of death, weeping
Now sound in their place.
And Ah! Freedom does not bloom
From the blood of the dead,
Torturous slavery's tears fall
From the burning eyes of the orphans!
Pity, O Lord, the Hungarians
Who are tossed by waves of danger
Extend over it your guarding arm
On the sea of its misery
Long torn by ill fate
Bring upon it a time of relief
They who have suffered for all sins
Of the past and of the future!
