Thanks Dave, I'm thinking Tom and Lori are putting together a great off grid system and we are anxious to hear all about the end result.

You will love it when you jump on the bandwagon with Lithium especially if you install a "Shunt" that turns your battery monitor into a electric fuel gauge. Lots of good choices out there, but I don't know of any much better than the current Le Time sale price.

Now that Lithium has become more affordable and the fact that Tom and Lori's lead acid batteries were on their last leg made it a simple decision to upgrade their solar and lithium batteries switch. No doubt they will have a big increase in their boondocking lifestyle.

Bob I converted to lithium a couple years ago and I'm glad I did. It cost me a fortune for 2 batteries and a new converter. I'm glad I did because in the 3 years before that I had to replace my 2 AGM batteries twice. I paid for them over and over. once I did I have had no problems. Only enough for a 30 amp system but now I'm getting ready for a solar charge side of this thing. Thanks for the encouragement. I will be updating this year. Again thanks and see you on the road.

Hi Doug, I have to say that a good solar and lithium batteries seems to consistently impress everyone that does the conversion. Now that prices are becoming more affordable, I hope more folks get to discover the benefits these two upgrades provide. Good Luck with your solar upgrade

I converted to lithium batteries two years ago and have never looked back and also help other friends do the same thing.

@@JustPassingThru absolutely. I have 800 amp hours of lithium batteries and 1500 W on the roof and we are camping in your old next exit site now. There’s a fifth wheel here with 1000 amp hours and 2690 W on the roof. He has powered outdoor concerts that I’ve been to. Look forward to seeing you guys if you get out this way.

Great video for those who are on the fence on getting lithium batteries. I have had 400 amps of battle born batteries a 3000 watt inverter and 1280 watts of solar for 4 years. ( not one issue)This is in our 30ft fifth wheel and is a perfect amount for our needs. Do i still bring a 2200 watt generator, yes but rarely use it unless we are firing up our air conditioner. Other than that it more than enough for our daily needs. Things we use on a daily basis.
Microwave, hair dryer, run the gas heater, charge the electric bikes, starlink,tv and use a electric bed warmer when needed. We do set the starlink to shut off in the evening . Best money spent for our rv.

Great example Bob, we have met a couple of folks that are frustrated because they now have electric bikes and running into issues with how to charge them up when they are off grid. Solar Panels and Lithium batteries really simplify the boondocking experience (if only they could drain out holding tanks. LOL)

@@JustPassingThru yes it is very convenient for the electric bikes for sure. We usually go for a early daily ride into the desert and when we get back around 1 pm the sun is high in the sky and with the solar it has really no affect on taking power from the batteries to charge the two bike batteries. I was looking back at my purchase of 4 battle borns, i was one of the first customers and thought i was getting a heck of of deal at 850.00 each. It is nice to see something come down in price for a change with the batteries you showed on your channel. Still no regrets with the B/B's. Keep up the great work with your channel we are faithful watchers!

Hi Bob - boy prices for lithium batteries has really come down in price. We love having ours. It makes boondocking much less stressful not having to worry about power. Since we have a residential refrigerator we have thought of adding two more batteries.
Tell Pearl hi! Have a wonderful Christmas. 😊❤️

Hi Janice, I agree with you and it is hard to believe the cost almost a thousand bucks just a couple of years ago. I think Battle Born is still up around $800 but they are the top brand name I think. The residential fridge almost makes it mandatory to go Lithium in my opinion. Hope you and Larry have a great Christmas and New Year, see ya when you get back to Yuma

the charger is a significant item. something i didn't hear you mention - the BIM (battery isolation manager) or BIRD or whatever you have, is a very significant item. your BIM must be Li capable or you MUST change it, about 250$ (cost for you to buy, plus installation). your charger will not adequately charge Li unless it is Li capable, and almost no RV on the road now has an Li capable charger. they are very new and sometimes installed on very recent RV's. the cost is almost 300$ (that cost is for my model rig, cost for me to buy, plus installation), and changing it is a very big event in most cases, lots of wires. if you have solar you can do without your charger.

These are the exact batteries at the top of my list for our conversion. When I priced them a few months ago, they were exactly the same price as replacing our 2 AGM's with the same OEM batteries. Now they're even cheaper! Because we have a small (25ft. Leisure Travel Van) motorhome now, the weight savings is especially important and the primary reason to switch from AGM. Oh, I also think we'll appreciate the extra power!

    • @JustPassingThru

The price and Will Prowse's review are the main reasons we did the video, I haven't seen a better value in quality lithium than these. Good Luck with your conversion

Hi Bob and Pearl. I have 630 Ah and I wish I had 800 Ah. I am a energy hog and use up to 6K per day. Hard to fully recharge my batteries with only 1,200 watts for solar panels up north and out east this time of year. With that said I have only used my on board gen and small portable gen a total of 43 hours since I left Yuma March 31, 2023.

    • @JustPassingThru
      @JustPassingThru  9 месяцев назад +1

Don, you are an energy hog for sure, that's a lot of power but you have a great system so hopefully you will be able to adapt a bit, although your solution of running the generator occasionally to catch up probably works just fine.

@JustPassingThru Bob, yes in 3 1/2 years full time in the RV I have put less than 150 hours on the on board gen.
