- I'm coming to the end of the rewire at Ashley Lane and one of the main parts of the second fixing is installing a new consumer unit. In this installation I went for the 14 way type A RCBO with surge protection from FuseBox. As we all move forward with technology changing by the minute, many manufacturers of appliances and equipment are requiring their equipment to be installed with type A RCD protection.

Everyone loves a good board change! But the hat is better! 😂
I think we should all chip in and get you some 2mm earth sleeve :-)
Thanks for sharing the vid mate
I’ve recently started using these boards too, I think the quality is brilliant for the price range, I now find it hard to go with anything else until other manufacturers can compete with their prices
That is one neat install! Lovely job mate.
An exellent job sir.well done.lovely fuse board.
Nice neat finish mate. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
I have found that since upgrading a few pubs with SPD boards, it appears to almost eliminate premature failure of led lamps, probably from the SPD snubbing the back EMF spike that comes from the compressors in the chillers and fridges!
Think whatever was in the special cup went to your hat. Great Video as always.
Another great video. Loving the hat and mug 🤣
Love the pink fusebox hat :-)
Highlighter pink hat 😂 ffs. Good video! 😎
great video and a very neat finish.
Appreciate that Jason 👍🏻
Next up on 'Find the rcbo at the wholesaler five years later show'...
02:38 I see you got one of those "special" mugs :-D
How did you deal with the tails in terms of isolation from the temp board to the new dB? Smart meters are shite if you pull the main fuse DNO come out to sight (WPD) my end
Thanks, good clear professional video also mate spot on! 🤙🏻
Looks nice and neat well done! 👍
Why don’t you give fuse box a go when u have your next board change.
Marc Williams yeah I might have to!
Cheers Jordan, I'm paying for it now being down in that cellar all morning! I'm full of a cold 🥶
@@JBE Me too! Been in bed all weekend and can't go to work today, coughing my lungs out!
Nice job ☺
that,s a very Bright beanie you have there Sir :D ..
Love the hat, all the fuss over fireproofing metal boxes but still need to use wooden backboard😀
Hi J,
love the channel, your work ethic and due diligence is an inspiration.
Would say that the worktop backing board needs sealing, as I would be worried about it blistering out with moisture, and becoming an unstable backing for your excellent install...
The cellar is quite dry and there's no sign of moisture. The DNOs OCPD is mounted on a similar board and has been for decades.

Just me panicking then.

I feel a Christmas rush on knob shine mugs coming........ Great video dude. Loving these interlinking references from you guys. :) peachy. Did you use the Bundy discount on that fuse box board? :) haha
Great video mate
Nice neat wiring job
Thank you
rcbos and surge protector luvely jubley, my brand new build dosn't have either.
😎😎😎
Nice job
Check how warm the rcbo's get after a couple of days

That mug! 😂😂😂
You did a great job there, I couldn't see mcb for spd in the consumer unit??
What do you use to fill the holes in the back of the board........
Hahahahah you and david S crack me up🤣 looks well
Hi mate where do you buy your fusebox consumer unit from? Thanks
It’s good practice to install a MET for water and gas main bonding
Is that because if the pipe ever got changed or rerouted they won't need an electrician to re-earth it?
I was watching one of your videos. Due to the fact you found a sharps container you had a concern that a crazed heroin addict would crash through the door . After many years working as a Firefighter Medic I can pretty much assure you that addicts do not use sharps containers . If you evere take your holiday in British Columbia, East Vancouver is littered with syringes dropped by addicts. Definitely a place tourists should avoid.
More than likely the previous tenant of that home was injecting Insulin or Blood Thinner .
This was my assumption too.
Did you manage to get the main neutral and SPD neutral into the same terminal on the neutral bar? Hard to tell from the video. The SPD neutral is prewired into terminal 1 on the neutral bar so messes up the circuit order as you can’t start from number 1. Minor nuisance but wondering if you’ve found a work around?
Good old knob shine
At last a good guy in my opinion especially with all things I do do t knock out unneeded holes in s good Baird. Coming from the back no pun intended ! Write on main conductors ie earths good job my friend did I train you ? Mine are a little tidier not much ! I also crimp end terminals on wires as they go into RCBO but very good
I like the raised away from the wall board, might have to steal that idea especially on situations where the wall isn't plumb or flat, but how did you maintain the integrity on the high integrity box? Just stick some intumescent sealant on or something a bit more substantial?
Many thanks.
I fill the back with some fire cement. It doesn't need fire protection as the board is classed as non combustible but it's a nice finish and good practice. In cellars I always try to keep things off the walls as they're known for getting wet. Cheers for watching 👀 👍
Is a 16A rcbo ok with a heating appliance usually only pulling max up to 3A? Assuming 1.5mm cable for heating, ccc could derate to 13A?
(Ib In Iz )
What’s the orange thing on far right?
Great install as usual. Where are you getting your boards from, I can only find them at CEF in Rossendale but they don't stock the type A RCBO's and have to order them in for me.
Fusebox must be giving them away to youtubers !
try Expert Electrical in Rochdale they stock FuseBox
Hager Consumer Box comes with busbar connecting both terminals of the main switch and both terminals of SPD. What am I missing here?
Hi I want to ask you all RCBOs you installed have 30mA or only one you were shown. And how can I order this RCBOs. And how you tested this circuits and how you tested SPD? Thanks
Did you nick that hat off of Noddys mate 'Big ears'?
Neat
That hat J 😂😂😂😂
Pretty job on that board.👍🏻 You really need to make a “giveaway”on that sexy hat.😂😄
With love from DK.🇩🇰
Wish I could give it away but my daughter has claimed it 😩
J Beck Electrical I’m also sure that it looks better on her, than me.😂 Merry Cristmas.🌲🎁
Is it new thing? How old is it ?
I am thinking how will it work after 4-5 years ?
i think ive seen you on a witness sketch on crime stoppers
Knob shine ?? I prefer 'Knacker Lacquer', it adds lustre to your cluster !
Was that a David savery special brew in the cup😉
I wouldn't be able to speak 🥴
So the spd live goes into the same terminal as the busbar? Have seen other videos where they get installed at the end of the board via an mcb?
They now come with overcurrent protection.
fusebox! it doesnt even have any fuses in it 😂
Is it wrong to cut the RCBO fly cables short in case they are too long ? If so, why ?
I've never had to cut them down, but I don't see the problem as long as they're terminated correctly?
why is he wearing a tea cosy???
One thing I do is super glue the grommet so it stays in place
Great idea 💡👍 I just use tape.
do you ever use ferruls on cable ends?
Yes on fine stranded cables.
Why does your earth sleeving look entirely yellow? Isn't it supposed to be green and yellow? Or is it that you're so precise you always put the yellow side to the front?
It's actually green and yellow but probably just twisted that way that you can't see.
Did you protect the SPD by a circuit breaker?
I too thought the SPD had to be fed separately from a 32a MCB, unless the reg has changed maybe, i need to read more into that i suppose?
These fuse box SPDs have an internal fuse so there is no need.
I'm guessing RUclips didn't like a video with the work Porn in it?
Great video, just completely out of interest, why didn't you gland the tails into the board? I am not an electrician, but a keen amateur who recently had my board changed and am wondering if the install should have been glanded in or brought in via the back knockouts like in your video?
Hi David, Glands are just one of many options out there as a way of getting and securing the tails into the board. Glands are a great way of making sure the tails and earthing conductor pass through the outer casing. In this case I went rear entry as I wasn't opening up any of the 4 sides of the board. On this particular board there's a tails clamp just before the main switch to make it more secure. As long it's secure, not passing through or over anything sharp and all three conductors are together, you're good to go. Cheers for watching 👀 👍🏻
If I don’t use glands and cables come threw the back I use fire seal
You don't need to 'fire-rate' the back of the board
Was Thomas Nagy invited to that Shindig?
Also are you boys members of electriciansforums.net?
how much advertising can you do, JBE, Napit and FuseBox possibly a bit of CK too
I know right! And none of them have paid me a penny! I'll get my agent on it.
J-Lo and P Diddy wouldn’t advertise for free 🥴🥴🥴🥴🥴
Oh my days was you having a bad day where did you get that hat, we’re you wearing that for a bet😄
It was a dark and cold Sunday morning in December, I was trying to stay positive while the world and his wife were out Christmas shopping. 😘
1st 👍
Where they "type B" RCBO or "type A"? The RCBO was B32 yet you said they were all type A?
Hi Darren, yes they were all type A RCBOs. It does get a little confusing! To give them their full description: 32amp Type A, B curve, RCBO. Cheers for watching 👀.
What made you choose type A rather than AC ?
It gives a bit of future proofing against loads that may have potential for a bit of DC leakage (wise move with more and more electronics all over the place), and only costs about £4 more per rcbo. Unless someone needs an emergency board change because the old one's caught fire or something and you just need to grab whatever board the local wholesaler can give you on the spot I'd say no reason to use type AC anymore.
Type A RCDs and RCBOs will become norm and more commonly used as we move forward.
Type A will still not protect against electrician transients and other more complex varying phase and pulse form of the waveforms. LED lighting and newer forms of DC power forms this is going to be a big deal what about AFDDs? Type F, B or EV might be better future proofing though cost would go up significantly!
@@mathman0101 AFDDs are too overpriced for use by actual electricians in the real world. 🥳🤭
@J Beck Electrical arc fault interruptors in the new 2020 NEC regulations in US are becoming more widely used - beyond just bedrooms and other circuits tend to have them. Indeed if we can get dual ground and arc fault interruptor sockets/duplex receptacles here. Putting them on circuits were sockets and lights are wired in series it has good protection to the individual and against fire in the house. They are not to expensive here. Are there any equivalents in the UK I have been gone too long from sunny blighty....
er…. hat,,,, need I say more
sorry you talk to much for me just get on with it
