Apart from comedy, In India it's different Everywhere. No ,In hinduism they can't change their wife name. This concept is new to India. In some part boy take female surname(very rare) ,in some part female take male surname(general) and in many part nobody changes their name . And they are not needed to give family name to childeren too. Like me, I don't have surname...and thank god ,I don't. And as far as I know noone in my family took their Husband name..not even our grandparents. And both male and female worked . And no it's Not because we belong to "lower caste" so people don't care. We belong to so called one of the "upper caste". And it's common. So don't let other decide or dictate anything for you.

well that's a very wrong information. It's forbidden 🚫 or considered haram to change one's wife name. My mom carries same name after marriage & not just my family - I haven't come across a single family where female change their name after marriage , yes even not surname was added. bcoz that's simply not permissible in our religion.
