I love Orthodox Bell Ringing, especially the Russian Version. My home church in New Hampshire recently received a set of bells that they will be installing soon in our original 1915 bell tower. The bell tower currently contains 1 BIG BELL which was minted in Baltimore,Maryland in 1912. Thank you for posting this!
Living in Italy, I've only heard bell melodies and distinct sounds. This is unique, I'd like to go to Russia because the atmosphere created by this sound gives me goosebumps. PS: In one of Tchaikovsky's compositions you can hear the orthodox bells :)
Christian Jiang When you study music, especially Russian music, you can literally hear the "bells" by these big, fat juicy chords. Not only Tchaikovsky, but Modest Mussorgsky (who shaped Russian romantic era music), Rachmaninoff, and Mily Balakirev (who was the 'leader' of the Russian "Five"). That's naming a few. Prokofiev actually sneaked in a few bell-like sounds during the soviet era, which was heavily censored to not allow any form of the "old style of worship"- Stalin replaced God.
In the finale of the 1812 Overture you hear Carillons... A more westerns sound with no rhythmic complexity as we hear in the Russian church bell ringing. Finally someone else heard it!
Wondering what part of Italy you’re from since you speak English. I’m Italian-Canadian (from Abruzzo) and I love my Italian culture. I’d love to move there someday to be where I belong, but it would be hard not living near other English speakers 🇮🇹
nick kerinklio Hi Nick! I live in Como, Lombardy. It’s kinda far from where your family was originally from! But please, do come to Italy! Can you speak Italian?
Beautiful photos Olga! Wonderful that the bells are allowed to "speak" out their joy without human voices overriding them!! God grant all Orthodox Christians a Holy and Blessed Pascha - like never experienced before in our lives!
When I hear these bells, the first thing I want to do is take the first plane to Russia, to hear them live again. If you really want to understand Rachmaninov's music in all its melodic and rhythmic complexity, you should listen to these bells first!
The pictures were taken in different places: in Kostroma, New Jerusalem monastery (near Moscow), on Volga neaqr Togliatti and of course in Moscow. Bells are from different places and times too (some recordings are from 1963 year). There is no correspondence between pictures and soundes with the exception of Novodevitchij Monastery pictures and bells at the last section of video. Thank you dear Barbara! Best wishes! ~Olga
First of all, The pictures are absolutely beautiful. Second, I try to study most forms of music, but bell ringing is so hard to find, unless I am travelling all over the place just to study them so it is great that you put up this amazing video! Thanks a lot!
i cant fall to sleep right now so chilling in my bed while listing to this with closed eyes. so good! you must be in chill mode in order to get the most of it. my favourite rhythms @ 03:2804:3006:30 you can get a better feeling of russian classical music and influence on it. often i had to think about lieutenant kije, lol
Different countries have different bell sounds....my favourite English one is ''Worcester Cathedral steadman caters'' a very eerie sound, rung on Remembrance Sunday for the dead soldiers.....but these Russian Bells are amazing!
Dear Olga, it is delight not only for Russian Orthodox soul... but also for traditional French Roman Catholic soul, like mine ! 🙏🕯️ Thanks for sharing this treasure !
As a ringer of bells English style, I am really interested to see and hear how it is done in Russia - quite fascinating. Thank you for this wonderful selection.
Quelle athmosphère extraordinaire de ces paysages aux horizonts si lointains de la Russie, de ses villes, églises, fleuves - le tout avec cet arrière-fonds parfois presque menaçant des cloches..Compliment à Olga Mirator!

gotta love when we're not at each others' throats...sad to see so many faiths that should be comrades holding a knife to the others throat...see far too much of it.
Hi Olga, Fabulous, wonderful pictures & sounds!! Where were most of hem taken? I love the winter ones. Such a creative photo essay with unique, unforgettable sounds - thanks so much again!! All the best! -b xx
Just wondering where you were able to get these amazing sound clips from. Looking for some myself and having a hard time, would really appreciate the help!

Traditionally, Muslims eschewed all forms of music, seeing it as a worldly distraction, leading away from God; and as an unholy practice of the polytheists. However, this view is rare today, outside of some fundamentalist sects like Salafism.

Love the sound of the Church Bells, only in the Orthodox World you hear and see such beauty, Olga.
Correct
Beautiful photos Olga! Wonderful that the bells are allowed to "speak" out their joy without human voices overriding them!! God grant all Orthodox Christians a Holy and Blessed Pascha - like never experienced before in our lives!

If you really want to understand Rachmaninov's music in all its melodic and rhythmic complexity, you should listen to these bells first!
Roland Te Booy...Rachmaninoff once said that the bell ringers were virtuosos. The bells were in his soul.
I believe you

OMG. I've been listening to gamelan since I was a kid and I didn't catch the similarity until reading this. You're right.
That's exactly what I thought!🙂

RUSSIAN BELLS by LIsa Marie Heitman
I hear Russian bells tonight
So faint and yet so clear
Though you are now so far away
The bells have brought you near
Back to this little seaside town
And boats 'neath harbor lights
Your memory can still be found
Even on the darkest nights
A walk along the St. Paul docks
My heart holds still again
So great a man can't be forgot
So great a love won't end
And if I live one hundred years
And if my heart still tells
I shall always be remembering you
When I hear Russian Bells
Beautiful video.
This is literally the funniest thing on earth wtf
Thank you!
Reminds me of Azula. Very eerie.
Thank you my dear cousin Sergio! Besos!!! ~Olia

Sort of like playing the drums and piano at the same time. Is there sheet music for bells?
@kyrpap1981 Hi! there are no Sea pictures in this video. It is great Russian river Volga :)
I believe that this particular sequence is used by many churches for the blessing of water.
@SuperLuckydream Thank you for your kind comment! My best wishes! Olga
