    This might be the best psychedelia we as a species are ever going to get. I love that you can see them all clearly at the beginning, but by the final drone they're all engulfed in this unbelievable blaze of color. Also that final drone is ego-death-inducing and I will be listening to this if I ever do acid.

    If you can't ever make a Boris gig, I have a home made version. Put yourself in an enclosed space and light a lot of incense until the small area you are in is completely clogged with smoke and you can barely breathe. Put on a screen or torch which flashes lights in your eyes, making it impossible to see properly. If you're worried that you may have an epileptic fit, you're doing it right. Then, most importantly, put on some headphones, put on Boris, and jack the sound up to 20 (not 11. 11 is Spinal Tap fans. We're Boris fans and we crank it up to 20). If you are unable to think straight because your major senses are overwhelmed, all is as it should be. Enjoy being unable to hear, smell or see properly and just relax and let the wonderful experience take you.

    The thing I've always loved about this song is how it distills the whole of mid-period Sonic Youth into 15 minutes...and like "Sister Ray," it's basically two chords.

      @@f67739 The last song on Washing Machine is probably the closest thing they have to this, not in the tempo of the song but it also goes into a sea of noise for lengths of time, it's called The Diamond Sea, personally my favourite Sonic Youth song

      @@geodadi1969 Interesting, and not by order of release: Sister-Evol-Daydream Nation-Goo is the period of brilliance I am most drawn to with Sonic Youth. I fully understand the love of Dirty-Experimental Jet Set-Washing Machine--Murray Street grouping as they are Sonic Youth in a period expressing just how great of a band they are, but there is perhaps the nostalgia aspect for me when it comes to Sister-Evol-Daydream Nation-Goo. Ah, being a music fan is often with it’s happiest of challenges. Boris does challenge and yet are also quite listenable in any mood since the mood changes song by song in many cases. We all do love some Sonic Youth time to time. Dirty Boots was featured in a Hal Hartley movie in such a way that all one could do is ... smile. I think the song was Dirty Boots, it was a long time ago.

    I have no recollection of how this entered my collection. Up until now I’ve never even seen the band. All I know is once in a while I crave jamming out to this amazing and unique piece. So distorted and cohesive at the same time. 10 minutes goes by too quickly. Can't imagine being here live for it.

      I love boris but more than anything else in this discography yeah, this song is just idk man - it's so overwhelmingly intense. Even though I didn't even know the lyrics till half a week ago I've always felt like depending on what mood I'm in this song is either life changing, meditative, or just entirely existential. It's so perfect

    • @dudeman5303
      @dudeman5303 3 года назад +14

      Me too, I thought it was good for the first five minutes but then when the feedback section starts I was like "dude. Holy Jesus please be more than just a few measures!!!" And then with every minute that goes by I was like "no f*ckin way. Please don't end, this seems too good to be true, how is it still going, oh my god!!!", And then ten minutes into the song it's just like - you basically just sit in peak euphoria because it's everything you *wanted* it to be but also even better, because I had no clue what I wanted the song to be when the song started, I was loving the album already but when they first add on the layers of feedback I remember just being like "no friggin way dude YES. That is such a sick harmony but it's FEEDBACK."
      And it's even better because you know that Boris knew that you'd want more of it, so they just kept going for like ten to twenty minutes just for the people who want their ears to melt from a religious type experience. (I'm an atheist, but this song is the closest thing to a religious experience I can really thing can exist outside of if I decided one day to take some sort of psychedelic)

    Can someone help me understand what I am hearing. It seems like when the drums stop Wata and Takeshi are just playing just two cords and Atsuo is making noise with some small box. But I hear a guitar feedback loop as well? And how does the noise and the loop and the music all stop at the same time?

    • @dudeman5303
      @dudeman5303 4 года назад +17

      Guitar pedal man. Loop pedals work where you can loop it by pressing one side ans then the other side turns it off and on. They use delay a lot too though

    • @rediffs
      @rediffs 2 года назад +5

      Wata uses a loop pedal, she loops her own playing when she uses an e-bow for the high-pitch drone before the drum stops, turns the loop on and continues to play power chords. Atsuo's credits on some albums is "feedback conduction", same as in the merzbow boiler room. Guessing maybe he is running the band's own signal into total distortion within the box. No one can really know how they make noise exactly
