    Many thanks - This helped me work out why I could not pull from an rsync module to my OMV server (I was using a single colon instead of the double-colon).
    Incidentally at 6:05 you say that the *in the minute field means at the top of the hour... In most Linux implementations, * means every minute (or once a minute, if you prefer). For top of the hour you need to use 0. As a former Unix instructor, I generally recommend not doing things on the hour (because that's what people tend to do) but to start a few minutes after the hour so that not every scheduled activity tries to start at the same time.

    It would have been a pain doing it by hand since i already did it 1.5 year ago.
    Now I'll practice it again to have it do a real scheduled backup
    I'm very new to all this

    Thanks TechnoDadLife, huge fan! Just note that Rsync is NOT a backup solution especially with the delete option ticked. I would recommend Duplicati for backup. Rsync only syncs. If your local file gets corrupted, then the corrupted file gets pushed to your remote server, essentially this is a glorified redundancy method.

      Can you tell me more about Duplicati? I'm gonna do a sort of nas ( a raspberry w 2 hdd connected to my router ). On One of two hard disk I have to do a backup ( once a day) of an external HDD of a computer that is connected to the same network. I don't want to sync corrupted files cause they are pretty important. About the second hdd i would do a public folder where everyone can put/read/write everything. Is open media vault a good solution? Sorry for my English.

    This tutorial has been my go to a number of times now. One question I have is how do you create a rsync job that doesn't have a schedule...if for some reason you want to just run manually?
    Would you need to manually edit "/etc/cron.d/openmediavault-userdefined" or "/var/lib/openmediavault/cron.d/" to remove the schedule?
    If so, what would need to change or be replaced.
    In the rsync job, I tried leaving everything as an asterisk "*" but that just makes to job run every minute.
    Keep up the great work.

    Hi, I would like to know when rsync saves information from one folder to another, just transfers new files or saves everything from the original folder to the backup folder. For example files were accidentally deleted in the original folder and rsync saves only the files present in the folder and when moving to the backup folder the deleted items will be lost.
    Regards from Portugal

    Hey. I have 2 stupid ( or not ) question ;) just started omv5 on proxmox as vm for backuping /home from host Ubuntu 20.4. Mounted additional HDD to VM (pass thru)and enabled NFS for my daily computer. And now
    My"server" doesn't work 24/h, on host I must manually mount NFS share because if server is down system just hangs on share mount.. is there any possibility to auto mount that share on host when he will be available? Umount will be nice see too ;)
    Second;
    How to backup with rsync /home from Ubuntu to NAS? Enable ssh server on Ubuntu or make another share and then sync? You show remote rsync but with 2 omv... Not Linux client. Thx!!!

    In your push example you went to the 192.168.254.85 server and enabled the servertab and added the module. In your reverse example you didnt enabled the 192.1168.254.29 server tab in order to enable the module there also why? Still it worked...but why? By the way you were explaining this I understood that the server who is going to receive data has to be enabled with the server module.
