- I have made a few changes to the Simomd Makalu tent from Decathlon. Its an excellent tent, if a little heavy for its size, but I felt it was worth investing and improving it.
These were:
1.Change all of the lines and cord or 2.5mm dyneema, less water retention and 100g saving.
2. Fitted a full mosquito net door.
3. Fitted eyelets to the front + rear snow valence corners so they can be pegged out if no snow.
4. Mosquito net to rear vent
The biggest thing is the lack of mosquito mesh door, which despite decathlon saying it has one- it does not.
This will be my solo go to winter bad conditions tent. I tested it out on a cold, windy December hill top in Northumberland. The strongest winds so far have been 30 mph, so I am keen to find worse when I can! I had a few sound and wind issues, but bare with me!
I was solo with honey the dog. I will bring you soon a full video of this trip, titled Wildcamping- the Mind not the Gear!.
Thanks for watching, stay safe out there and Happy Christmas 2020
Brilliant!! Your adopted dog has proper stolen our hearts, especially knowing pooch's back story. Godbless
The more i look back at my videos the more I see her standing guard.
🙌🏻
I agree. It’s a brilliant tent. Excellent value for its intended use. Adult and a small child only I found. Also my head and feet touch the inner, and I’m only 5’11”. No chance if you’re over 6’ your feet will be out of the door.
I really must use it more!
Great review! But it's unacceptable didn't come with a net!
Hello. Tell me, how comfortable will this tent be for two people with backpacks? And what is the term of use? What are your general impressions of the tent?
Ive got a much longer review. Have you looked? I am 184cm and so is my big son. It would be tricky with the two of us. But its built for the high mountains where space may be tight. So ideal for that. Think of it like a biblier or assault tent size but two layer. overall, I love it. Not the most important attribute but its so cool looking!
@@Fellmandave1 , thanks for the information
Hi Dave, I've been watching your vids on this one and I have to say I like the look of it and may try one. It seems great value for the performance though I'd probably have to mod it too now I've seen your door which makes great sense. What company did the mod for you if you don't mind me asking ?
A
Hi Andrew.
Its this guy. www.tentawningclinic.co.uk/
Traditional and experienced. Cost me £65. Effective job but not quite to my request which was to put the zip around the outside of the original zip which would give more head clearance at the door. Instead he kind of overlapped it.
It's a cool tent but a bit heavy eh? Would be great if you got one and placed it in the Ferrino busting wind! ATB David
👍that’s what’s it’s about
Agree Peter!
Could you share the link of the mosquito net, please
Hi, i had tent repair company do it.
And another question - at 1.05 is this a down jacket "makalu" on you? What are your impressions of him?
Yes, it is excellent. Very soft and comfortable.
Hello! Is 20d nylon tent ?
40 I think

Dan, its fantastic value and seriously warm and beautifully soft. I just keep mine for best. Not tried it in any showers or damp conditions yet though. Highly recommended.
