I really like your channel as a Guide Leader for over 20 years and with over 50 years of camping experience I would like to pass on some knowledge. If you roll up the doors from the inside you will find that the rain rolls off and does not create puddles. I hope this helps. Take care Gill
I've seen quite a few people using and reviewing this tent, but you STILL have that knack of showing and demonstrating things really clearly. I bet you don't even think about it, and you just do it instinctively, but...great job 👌 I love the colour of it, and hadn't appreciated just how massive it is till I saw your video!
It’s a cool tent. Copied from the Hilleberg Rogen. My friend has the Taiji and I have the Rogen. Pretty good for the enormous price difference. In wind we found Taiji bent a lot more, but other than that extremely good value. Rogen used poles sleeves including for short cross pole vs Taiji external clips. Both fun tents and great for the weight.
I'm even later to the party than you are! This is the first I've heard of this one. I have the Lanshan but I get wet in it every time as my head and toes touch the small angle walls. This is much more up my alley.
A silly small thing, but one that I really like, is the bag. You don't need to have an industrial press to get it small enough to go back into the factory bag. Very nice feature that makes using it easier. Esp if you are packing up in the rain and you are trying to get it packed in a hurry.
It does have similar characteristics to the MSR Tents. I’ve just been out in the Elixir 2 all week for the first time since I bought it. The Elixir is much heavier, but I bought it for car camping. Thanks for sharing Paul. Looking forward to seeing how it performs in the field.
Messner: "Look at all this headroom, you could sit up in here very comfortably" Later that night: Proceeds to cook and eat lying down in the most uncomfortable position for doing so known to man. Love the vid, brother. Stay safe out there.
A very similar tent to the Sierra Designs Meteor 2 & the Naturehike Nebula 2, & probably many others. The short cross pole at the top makes all the difference to the height & stability, & the two openings are a campers dream. We could finally be getting very close to the perfect 3 season tent here.
@@ipedros7 I've had my Meteor 2 on 12 camps so far, & I'd say it's a better tent than some that cost twice as much. Very stable for such a high sided tent.
so far this tent ticks ALL my boxes. I'm so tempted to buy one. The only thing stopping me is my need to see how it copes in heavy wind and rain. I'm used to a low profile tunnel tent with lots of guy lines, but I crave the extra headroom and this tent is 500g lighter than my current one
@@NessNayii the timing of your post is unbelievable. I'm actually in this very tent right now, and it's raining!!! I bought the tent shortly after my last post so I've had it almost 2 years now. Camped on new year's eve in it in heavy rain and quite strong wind and it was fine. My tent was up in the rain for 3 nights and it was fine. I adore this tent
@@NessNayii Grizzly Gaz posted a review of this tent, where it collapsed in strong wind, but he did say he hadn't guyed it out properly. I've just endured a very windy night and it's still windy and blowing in the sides now, but still standing and never had any leaks. There is a weak point on this tent, and that's the door panels. They are very wide and could really do with a tab in the middle at the base to hook onto a peg for support. I wouldn't know how to do this, but those door panels really catch the wind. I saw this happening on the Grizzly Gaz video. To help, I've attached a guy line on each end of the smaller cross support bar, anchoring it down. This way the strong winds can't completely push the tent in on itself. The interior pocket is almost useless because it's so small, and only one of them, but this is such a minor niggle. For me after using this tent many times in 2 years, in all weathers, I would rate it 8.5/10
@@TimelordUK wow, what a coincidence regards you actually being out in it when you got the notification, haha! Thanks so much for the responses, and for going into detail - I really appreciate it! It's a toss up between this and the xmid solid two person (I watched Wild Beare subject her xmid solid to some pretty extreme wind, and it coped unbelievably well). If the Taiji 2 can be modded though, it might be the way to go...lots to think about! Thank you again!
@@NessNayii ❤️ I'll have a look at that tent you mentioned. Another consideration of mine has to be weight. I don't drive so I need to carry everything in my rucksack. I am very happy with it, but yes, not so sure about very strong winds. Watch the grizzly Gaz video x
I removed about 4 inches off of each guy line on mine, and tied loops directly to the attachment points in the poles, and added some very small carabiners onto the guy lines on one end and tied the other to the pegs so you can wrap the guys around the pegs and store them in your peg bag and then just clip them on when setting up

Hi Paul…great review but I think you have the top connecting piece wrong, according to the 3ful website and other reviewers. The short cross member goes last OVER the top of the two main poles, with the centre plastic connector attaching to the bottom main pole and the top short spreader pole, sandwiching the other main pole inbetween . Just an observation that may not even matter in the end. Keep up the top videos Paul.
The footprint can be semi-permanently attached to the tent, so you might as well use it, since it requires zero extra effort to pitch once it has been attached the first time.

Not bad price too. Good to see you back on the gear reviews always very good and detailed. Odd only one door has the clip back. Like the method of attaching guy lines.
Hi Paul, I have pretty much zero experience in camping but was wondering if you have ever used or considered using plastic cable ties for emergency repairs connecting the outer to the poles. Where the three poles cross looks like a stress point and do you think adding the ties would give extra support and strength in strong winds or maybe even secure them with a carabiner. I do enjoy watching your channel and I am pleased that you seem to have regained your passion for camping. Take care.

Perhaps you could show this in more detail as a how to/instructional video. And…you have referred to ‘modding’ tents- adding bungee cord, tie out points etc. It would be great to see how to do this properly with ruining a tent!
The sequencing/method you used to clip the top, short 'spreader pole' in place appears odd. A better devise (or at least thought out) would be to clip by using the under-hook part inline with the long pole atop highest crossover/intersection...same as inline with the rest of the fly clips... then flex the small pole over top the U-shape feature (like an oar in its lock). Any thoughts? I think what the manufacturer has in mind is both long poles are using the fitting to create the intersection...then the short pole gets bowed over the top without anything.

Looking forward to seeing this tested 'in anger'. Those guy lines look rather too short to be effective which is odd when they've taken the theoretically good move of having the attachments direct to the poles.
I bought the same one, with 3 seasons inner. (Want the 4 seasons inner but constantly out of stock) Really like it & used it 2 nights at Loch Lomond this week. A bit of condensation inside the fly but putting that down to wet kayaking gear, but it was ok as it was all on my wife's side! Easy to pitch all in one, a must for us in Scotland.
I've just bought this tent, I hope it will be ok on the top of windy mountains with the extra guide lines I got with it. I'll be up on mountains in Scotland soon so hopfully it will hold up.
For tent clamps.... I also put in a few tent clamps which you can attach to the tent bottom to add additional strength to the sides if your tent does not have additional guide points there. I see the lone explorers Durston xmid 1p in the background, if I'm not mistaken.. . My 2 person xmid arrived in Ireland today. Just waiting for An Post to send me the customs notification. Its a bank holiday so probably won't get it until the end of the week. Will get it up into the Wicklow mountains once I get it.
Don't know about those guy systems that attach to the poles on that 3ful tadger, by the way.
Hi Paul
Great vid.
If you had the cloud peak 2 would you swap it?
Cheers Graham
Hi Paul, how do you think the Taji would work for taller hikers i.e 6ft4 in my case. All the best.
Glad you're in a better place Paul, I like your channel a lot, it's honest and unpretentious. I have a question for you: You've used and tested so many tents in so many different styles but there's a couple of well known ones (I don't think) you've ever used/reviewed.. Big Agnes and Nordisk... I'm wondering if you just don't like them or maybe just haven't got around to reviewing them... I may have missed a video but I think I've watched most of your content. Anyway, all the best and keep well : )
For being a contry where you have to "Wild camp" in... you have a lot of equipment to chose from😁
You should check my mods out for this tent Paul. I've actually got some of those blue rings spare and some hook and loop fasteners if you want me to send you some lad?
Don't forget to give me a shout out if you do 😜
Cheers Gaz I’ll take a look 👍🏻
@@PaulMessner ignore me not standing still while filming but the horseflies were out in force that day! Haha. It's a great tent Paul and I've had it out in some real bad weather 👍
@@GrizzlyGaz how does it perform in strong winds? does it stay dry inside during heavy rain? No leakage at the pressure points??
@@TimelordUK it's been great for me pal. Had it out in all sorts of weather 👍
Hi Paul, I've just bought one of these and I'm wondering if you could tell me which pegs you would swap these out for?
Kind of hoping you get some windy wet weather this weekend Paul🙄, that way you can give this tent a good test. I really like it, i use the lanshan 2 pro for a summer tent but am looking at buying a 4 season. Would you class this as 4 season🤷♂️.
Really great to be seeing your videos coming out more often again, always a good watch👌🤣 nearly forgot, does it come seam sealed ??
How did this fair on the hills Paul? I’m seriously thinking about ordering one but would like to know how it stood up first. I currently have the cloud peak 2 but I really like the look of this. Keep up the good work mate!
Looking forward to seeing this tested 'in anger'. Those guy lines look rather too short to be effective which is odd when they've taken the theoretically good move of having the attachments direct to the poles.
hi Paul. Now you have used it do you still think this is a good tent. thanx
How do think this tent would work for a 6’4” (194cm) man?
Thanks!
You could have a dance in that tent lol
I bought the same one, with 3 seasons inner. (Want the 4 seasons inner but constantly out of stock) Really like it & used it 2 nights at Loch Lomond this week. A bit of condensation inside the fly but putting that down to wet kayaking gear, but it was ok as it was all on my wife's side! Easy to pitch all in one, a must for us in Scotland.
Did you order from US and what were the import fees ?
How can I find this in the UK with £ prices, please.
I've just bought this tent, I hope it will be ok on the top of windy mountains with the extra guide lines I got with it.
I'll be up on mountains in Scotland soon so hopfully it will hold up.
Please check this video even if you only watch the last few minutes. The tent doesn’t like high winds at all. ruclips.net/video/CG4VEIpKb0w/видео.html
@@PaulMessner Oh no, maybe if its forcast wind I'll have to take the Phoxx 2 or relocate from the mountain to some more seltered area
‘Potential’ VFM spacious Soulo look-a-like.
For tent clamps.... I also put in a few tent clamps which you can attach to the tent bottom to add additional strength to the sides if your tent does not have additional guide points there. Tarp Clips Heavy Duty Lock Grip, 20 Pack Tarp Clamps Heavy Duty, Shark Tent Fasteners Clips Holder, Pool Awning Cover Bungee Cord Clip, Car Cover Clamp
Do you need to water seal the seams? Or is it just good to go?
It’s all taped seams and good to go
Do they sell it here in the u.k?, I see just from US !
Paul what knot did you tie to attach the guy to the tent?
It’s a bowline. Easy to untie if needed but very solid knot.
If I go to the link it gives me a price in dollars US. How do I order in £'s? Is it available in the UK?
