"Tricuspid regurgitation is characterized by the backflow of blood into the right atrium during systole.
The Tricuspid valve is an atrioventricular valve preventing blood from flowing from the right ventricle to right atrium. The other atrioventricular valve is the mitral valve. Anatomically, the tricuspid valve consists of anterior, septal, and posterior leaflets.
Tricuspid regurgitation is characterized by the backflow of blood into the right atrium during systole. Tricuspid regurgitation may be Primary or Secondary (most common). Secondary tricuspid regurg is functional and is due to dilatation of the right atrium and RV with dilation of the tricuspid annulus. These changes are often caused by pulmonary hypertension."

I agree the animation is superb especially the dilation of the tricuspid annulus to really bring it home what is happening in secondary tricuspid regurgitation. Thanks and well done.

I was initially confused how the contracting of papillary muscles would cause the closing of the tricuspid valve via the tension physics of the chordae tendinae since usually contracting is synonymous with shortening not elongating. However your illustration @ 01:34 makes me realize that the contraction of the papillary muscles are actually contracting the cardiac muscles and minimizing the volume in the right ventricle chamber, and a byproduct is the plunging of the tricuspid valves closed toward the right atrium. This clears up my understanding of physiology!

They are not V waves. The v wave is part of normal valvular behavior and occurs at a different time of the cardiac cycle to the giant systolic venous waves of TR
