First off, thanks for the transparency. Most of the make money online SEO gurus here on RUclips aren't saying anything about how much devastation the HCU did to their websites. When in reality they are bleeding heavily right now.
Thanks 👍
Keep up the great recovery efforts, Carl!
Wow, it really shows just how crap ezoic is. They really fell the cliff in the past year or so.
Seems like a lot of pain and complication for pocket money
Not sure it’s pocket money. Many site I have and my friend have make some peoples yearly salary in one month.
Yea this site has been hit hard but if things hadn’t changed £2000-3000 grand a month wouldn’t have been pocket money for me. Unless you’re Rich then it might be to you 👍
Thanks for your reply Carl, had been feeling a bit discouraged when I said that..... no, I am far from rich@@CarlBroadbent
@@affiliateme7414 a lot of people are discouraged but like anything in life of it was worth starting it’s worth the ups and downs. I personally think it’s worth sitting it out until google calms down then looking at it with a clear head and see where you are. Your blog can be a stepping stone to other side hustles as well.
Thanks for the video and transparency!
Do you know if the revenue per user would have gone up even if you didn't switch to Mediavine? Like, maybe Google is sending less traffic, but the traffic that's left over is more relevant resulting in higher revenue per visitor?
Yeah good point. Most of the Best x ones dropped. Like best hotel in x. Which is wheee the real money is
Thanks for sharing the story. 80% down is brutal. I sort of know how it feels after two drops of 20% each in a year. How are visitors behaving in terms of time on site and clicks? If they are happy, Google should be, theoretically. By the way, if your site covers destinations as broad as your example, that might be a factor. Just a thought.
It maybe too broad for sure. However my backup site is city specific and that got hit too. Go figure 😞
I'm confident you will sort this up, Carl. Keep us posted on how the 301 redirect is going, and maybe do some videos about the entire process. Cheers!
Will do
Hi Carl you mention getting 50k page views to get on Mediavine but I thought it was 50k users. Congrats tho!
The only way is up now !
I mean session. Sorry my bad
that's it, sessions! thanks for clarifying...@@CarlBroadbent
Hey Carl,
Thank you for sharing this information with us. I have a question. Have you made any video about amount of traffic increasing with the number of blog posts on your website? Like how much traffic you were getting for 50 blog posts, 100 blog posts, and over 200 blog posts?
No because everyone is different. 50 of my blog posts even about the same topic as yours might be different. There are too many variables. So I don’t want to give false information or false hope to people.
I hope your site will get back on track, Carl.
Thanks
Great content carl. Waiting for update for this.
Sorry it’s been a little depressing to talk about. I’m still confident it will bounce back
Need more authority and better monetization. Not just display
Bookings is the way forward
ooopdate :)
Sorry there hasn’t been many. It’s been a little depressing.
@@CarlBroadbent My site got hit a little .. not too bad but rebounded super strong and it is now doing better than preupdate.
Carl, what's your view on SEO post HCU? In light of Google saying we should be writing for people and not search engines, it's made me think about how I wrote articles in the past. I used Surfer SEO extensively but found that this often resulted in a writing style that wasn't entirely natural. I'm still deliberating over whether to kick my site into touch or not, but if I carry on, I'm thinking about canning Surfer and just writing articles naturally and how I would want to read them? Has the HCU changed your attitude towards SEO? Is it still important?
I had one other travel website where I did no keyword research it was all story based and pure content perfect for that specific audience. The sort people love to read. That got hit as well 😥 so I’m
Not sure
I had already ditched Surfer for my client's sites and my own sites before HCU (I had been using it since launch), and results are better without it, not worse. I think Surfer is only helpful if you're going after really competitive terms that already has the serp intent filled - which I think is a silly strategy anyway. Now I only look to fill gaps, or produce content where what's out there is crap or out of date, and get the writers to really think about what the searcher is looking for, not what entities Google is looking for.
@@CarlBroadbent Not talking about keyword research per se Carl. I think that's always necessary. It's the 'SEO' suggestions made by Surfer like wordcount, number of images, number of paragraphs etc. I always found that a bit of a pain to be honest.
@@qartheros Makes sense to me 🙂
