- If you run into problems with your headset or want to clear all of your data off of the headset, you can do a factory reset. This wipes everything off your Meta Quest 2 or Meta Quest, and returns it to the software state that it was in when you first took it out of the box.

Thanks for specifically stating that you must press the power and the volume down buttons at the same time, and not the volume up button (volume up is actually closer to the power button and is therefore the natural choice for a novice user). Many other OFFICIAL videos and articles do not warn users that pressing the power and volume up button causes the device to go into an error state! Many other official videos and articles just state "press the volume button" without being specific on which volume button! This is a major oversight. In tech we are specific and so should be our instruction material.

Meta support is so horrible. I opened a quest account. Bought a few games. They said i have to upload an id card because they need to verify who i am. What game system does that? When i tried to reach them to verify over the phone you can't. I tjink there all in India. So they have just up and closed three tickets without any help with my account and now i wasted money on the hames. What kinda crap is this?
Maybe just verify your identity? You can also verify with credit or debit card.

A tutorial is fine, but you should not release updates with critical problems in the first place, and if you do, you should make the function to revert to a previous version. Many people are encountering critical problems with every update these days. The official forums are full of bug reports. It's funny to see support telling us to do factory reset every time something goes wrong. Initialization is something that should be done in very exceptional cases, and it's abnormal to have to do it over and over again. There are many games that aren't supporting cloud backup.

Yeah literally, I was just trying to change a payment method and it asked me to create a meta account when I dont even know my email or oculus password, have to factory reset the oculus and lose hundreds of dollars worth of games, just because I couldn't add a payment method.

Hello, so when I get on my Quest 2 VR, it says something like ".facebook.wearable.system keeps stopping". Then the VR just restarts over and over. May you please assist me on this?
It’s really stupid how they don’t really have a definite list of non cloud supported apps. Vader immortal is one, I don’t want to loose all my progress, I got to all the highest levels on training on all three episodes, all to forget my login password and having to reset and do it all over again. Don’t factory reset unless it’s the absolute last thing you have to do.
It does have a chapter select though, and I think when you start the game, it starts the last chapter over.
@@Cubedex679 No, I’m talking about the Jedi training section, I got to the highest level on all the episodes, and got all the gloves, sabers, etc. All was wasted when I forgot my password and reset, it was so annoying to get back to where I was before

We know how important it is to know all the details before doing a reset and we want to let you know that your account will not be deleted. Only the information on the device will be wiped, but all your apps and progress are saved to your account. When you do pull up the device again and after you sign back in, you will have to download your apps again. We hope this has answered your question! 🙂

Whenever i let go of the two buttons it just gets rid of the screen and boots up the quest
Ok so when you are holding the power and volume down and when the screen pops up let go of the power and it will start moving the highlighter then let go of volume and you can navigate

My headset keeps saying that shellenv has stopped working and when I close the app it just pops up again! It started when I downloaded a virtual environment that was available and it was not downloaded of of side quest. I can’t go on any of my games or apps and I don’t really want to factory reset as that will remove all my date. Is there anything I could do?

Great. after an update my headset bricked and the reset made it so much worse. Support basically told me to screw off and buy a quest 3, which I don't think is worth the price. Not really expecting a reply here but support was no help. I am in an infinite boot loop. any suggestions?

I had to factory reset my cousin's headset because he somehow got that pattern lock on there, even thou non of us ever put it on there at all, i couldn't get it fixed, i even try the "forgot password" thing and it wont let me reset it. So i had no choice but to reset his headset

Factory reset basically sets your headset to its day one settings. You'll have to go through the set up again and redownload your games, but you don't lose anything from the account itself. Cloud back up should automatically be activated, but it's always a good idea to double check and make sure it actually is on before performing that factory reset. The cloud back up is cool because it keeps you from losing your saves!
Idk what to do.. the menu pops up but if i let go of the buttons the menu goes away and the headset turns on instead. How can I choose options?

Also, in case you had Cloud Backup turned on, your in-game progress was also saved and will be available to you. I like that I can reset my headset now but why are they filming this at 2am in the morning, like what (if you want to see the time they are filming it you can see it on the phone)

Hello, @Ramboo! We definitely don't want the factory resetting process setting back your PCVR gameplay at all, so we wanted to chime in to share some insight! To clarify, a factory reset wipes the headset itself, restoring it to the state it was in out-of-the-box. While you may have to reinstall some of the standalone games afterwards, the Meta Quest Link PC app would not need to be reinstalled on your computer. We recommend making sure your headset is not connected to a PC when factory resetting, that Air Link is toggled off in settings, and also ensure the headset is powered completely off. Let us know if you have any further questions or run into any trouble! 😁

When you perform a factory reset, the headset will default to its original settings, meaning that any data on the headset will be deleted. There is, however, a feature in the headset called the cloud backup, which allows users to save data for some games and apps and is normally turned on. From the headset:
1. Turn off your headset.
2. Hold the power and volume (-) button on your headset down simultaneously until the boot screen loads on your headset.
3. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Factory Reset and press the power button.
4. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Yes and press the power button.
The device should now begin the Factory Reset process.

We do want to let you know that all games and other purchases are tied to your account, and won't be deleted when a factory reset is performed on the headset. That will erase everything from the headset itself, but they can be added back to the headset after pairing again through the mobile app.
That said, game data and progress specifically is saved through Cloud Backup. It is completely up to the game developers to have this feature enabled, so feel free to check out this link to check which games are backed up: secure.oculus.com/my/cloud-backup! Please be sure your headset is fully charged and Cloud Backup is enabled in settings (note: if you have not gone in and manually disabled Cloud Backup, it should be automatically enabled.). This doesn’t work. Every tome i hold the power and volume down buttons it just opens up the option to restart or shut down the headset. In addition i am resetting them because it wants me to enter a 8 dot puzzle which i never had in the first place.
