I personally love the Final Destination version of Death. The idea of Death not being a physical entity, but probability given a dark personification and intelligence makes for a very suspenseful film when the antagonist is something that you can’t see.

+revseth Haha I actually like this review. This movie is definitely on my list of must watch, especially after hearing that Max Von Sydow, the old man in the beginning of Star Wars Episode VII, plays the knight and gives a great performance.
+INsane saniTY Haha, originally in "Bogus Journey", death was going to be a skeletal animatronic mask, but I guess due to budget restrictions, they went with the "Seventh Seal" look.
I know it doesn't technically count but Terry Pratchette's Death deserves a mention. What other character has an awesome introduction on a sleek white horse. Gets off the horse in an awesome manner. Approaches the main character. And proceeds to slip on some ice and say "Oh bugger"
what other death ever played Santa to save the world? Makes appearences for every near death experiences to crack dry jokes, likes cats and actually teaches people that swords are not meant to be save :D
+Melody Weckel I do agree that Sam wasn't really a version of Death. I saw him more like the spirit of Halloween than death, but not really a serial killer/slasher. He was more paranormal than that.
A pity the Discworld movies aren't well known. Death in that universe was my childhood. Reaping was just a job to him, and he wasn't cruel at all. He was just there to separate the soul from the body and get people to move onto the other side. He's fascinated by Humanity to the point of adopting a daughter and hiring an apprentice. And he has a horse called Binky. If the Grim Reaper was real I'd wish it was like him. The list was okay, but the murderous child entry felt like a cop-out. Felt like he was just a zealous follower of Halloween tradition with super human strength (stringing up an adult like a Predator without witnesses?) as opposed to a reaper XD
Not entirely unlike Death from "Meet Joe Black". He had taken interest in humanity and wished to learn about it, and in doing so, became very human himself.
Supernatural's depiction of death for me is the greatest of them all. Somber, old, not scary because of how he looks but because he simply exists. Absolutely unique. I hate that they killed him so fast in the series😕. Also his theme song was chilling🖤
Travis Senart No.... They mean Death. Like the Horseman of the Apocalypse. He is in the show and is like leader of all the reapers you are talking about

+Emmalith Drako "While this wee one may not necessarily be a reaper, he's definitely a death dealer." If dealing death makes you a depiction of Death or the Grim Reaper, then Jason, Michael Myers, Freddy Kruger, Chucky an any villain in any horror film qualifies for this list. For The Freightners, it's "The ghost of a serial killer posing as the Grim Reaper" not the actual Grim Reaper. The killer from Scream is also wearing a costume that resembles the Grim Reaper. Should that count? Should the guy in the opening to Scrooged be on the list too?
+SinZephyr Even if you count Johnny Charles Bartlett because he pretended to be the Grim Reaper, how does Sam from Trick or Treat, more of a scarecrow than a reaper, count as death or the Grim Reaper? I think the Angel of Death from Hellboy 2 should have been higher up on the list. It has a skeletal and androgynous appearance showing how Death is "the great equalizer," and depspite its skeletal and decrepit appearance, it still has a strong, regal, and graceful quality in how it carries itself. Amazing work by creative team behind the movie: make up, costume, art departments, Guillermo del Toro, and Doug Jones who played the Angel of Death.

Merlith Gero because making him look like a man (all except one movies in the vid) or giving him male attributes (Discworld's death) sort of became a cliche.
MrKosobi its not a cliche, its based on a personification that is male. also, most of them are just skeletons. having a dark voice dosent make you male. "In English, Death is often given the name "the Grim Reaper" and, from the 15th century onwards, came to be shown as a skeletal figure carrying a large scythe and clothed in a black cloak with a hood. In Jewish tradition, Death was referred to as the Angel of Life and Death (Malach HaMavet) or the Angel of Dark and Light stemming from the Bible and Talmudic lore. The Bible itself does refer to the "Angel of Life and Death" when he reaps Egypt's firstborns, but he is not connected to Satan. There is also a reference to "Abaddon" (The Destroyer), an Angel who is known as the "Angel of the Abyss". In Talmudic lore, he is characterized as archangel Samael."
First of all, Sam shouldn't even be on this list. He's not a grim reaper. He's the spirit of Halloween itself. In some cases (i.e. the children on the school bus), he's a spirit of vengeance. Anyway, my favorite representation of Death from this list is the Angel of Death from Hellboy II: The Golden Army. I thought he was beautifully indifferent and stunning in appearance. Totally badass.
My favorite depiction of Death in fiction will always be Zane from On A Pale Horse by Piers Anthony, mostly because of how he presents Death as a mortal tasked with the job like it’s a political office and how Zane himself is not shy from saving a life he is meant to take or take ones that are not yet ready to die, all as a form of mercy and comparison, making Death more human in the process.
@@russward2612 There's an 8th one, you know. Or are you just skipping that on purpose because you didn't like it ala the whole "There's only three Star Wars films" thing?
VicariousReality7 Oh sorry, lets just change everything from death to "absence of life" to appease your abstract thinking. Btw who knows, maybe death exists. *winks but u wont get it anyway fucks sake no one gets it ever*
***** I was saying, could you consider a weapon in the hands of one who wants to harm a representation of death, because it is the potential for death? I was not stating an opinion, simply hoping for intelligent discussion. Don't know what the point of your comment was, but whatever.
I can't believe you put Morte in this, even if it's just an honorable mention! It makes me really glad to see that some of the good brazilian movies get international recognition.
The Frighteners is one of the most underrated on the list. Happy to see it among one of the three top. I love that film. Some considered to be a weak story, a movie that doesnt "know" if it's a horror or a comedy. I rather think of it as a perfect balance between horror and dark comedy. It's both, just as much.
Er... isn't it a little redundant in a way to have the Death from Last Action Hero and Bill and Ted in this AND have Death from the Seventh Seal? I mean, the other two are both references to the Seventh Seal one...
The seventh seal (det sjunde inslaget) is quite frankly a masterpiece, ever since I was a child me and my mom would quote it just for fun! And there's these particular lines i know by heart! I really do recommend it to pretty much anyone as it is a visual masterpiece
I miss the death of the discworld. Albeit it was only portrayed yet in TV-movies (like Hogwarts), and in the novel-series of the great Terry Pratchett it is clearly THE DEATH PERSONIFICATION OF ALL THE MOVIES
Orion Freed Indeed they are excellent. Great Humor. Very nice parody on real world, od these and ancient days, on clishes and on stereotypes. Also a real good mixup of classical (slapstick), hidden and a good splash of very black humor.
It may just be me, but I never found the ending of "The Seventh Seal" to be depressing. The knight goes from resisting to the inevitable to accepting it and truly escapes from the world of death and misery that surrounds him in mortal life. It is probably one of the most uplifting endings in a Bergman film.
Sean R I completely agree, He is definitely one of the coolest depictions of death I have seen on TV. But Jarlaxle is right about it not being a movie though. Bummer
+Sean R This is only in movies. Maybe a list should be compiled of TV Deaths. I would vote for Discworld Death. *Edit* Oops, there's already a video for that. I'm gonna see if Discworld Death is on it.
We need another Top 10 movie Depictions of the grim reaper and death. #1 has to go to Lobo from Puss in Boots 2. Hands down one of my favourite Dreamworks villains.
And definitely dropped that snot-nosed Sam from the list, he's a serial killer. That doesn't make him Death/the Grim Reaper/Santa Mort, same goes for the goofus from the Michael J Fox film! Mojo need to watch more Terry Pratchett programs, could have done a double listing to Sir Terry - you have Death in his incarnate form from Weird Sisters at #2 and from the Hogfather at #1 makes sense to me!
One of my personal favourite representations of death will always be Neil Gaiman's death "Death has a body like a model, the clothes of a poet and the smile of your best friend. She wears a top hat for fun, her ankh necklace for power, and carries a big black umbrella for travelling to the 'sunless lands.' I wonder what she smells like? I'm sure it's fresh and clean and her laugh must be rinkly or maybe it's warm and chuckly, but whatever it is, Death laughs a lot. We talk about the 'miracle of birth' but what about the 'miracle of death'? We have the science of death pretty much figured out, but death's magic and inevitability have been feared and ignored for a long time now. What if Death is a person?"
i know this is about movies, but my favorite depiction of death is defenitely the angel of death from american horror story season 2 (asylum). she was so gentle and comforting and quite chilling, it was perfect. and i think that is exactly what death really is. it's just so beautiful and different.
I love how three of the top ten are basically Death from the Seventh Seal. It's obvious in Last Action Hero and in the Seventh Seal (of course). Death in Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey may not be specifically identified as such, but it's pretty obvious the whole "play games for your soul" idea was taken from the Seventh Seal's chess game with Death.
I agree, best death by far... greatest artistry and imagination of the bunch. I think it's just less known.. Which is too bad, because this is one fine film. If you weren't satisfied with the tiny glimpses of Guillermo Del Toro's fantasy world in Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy 2 delivers what you crave !
I know, right? Granted, he doesn't have much screen time in Color of Magic, but he does have more in Hog Father. Also, I would love if they made his book Mort into a movie. That would be awesome!
I always pictured Death/Grim Reaper as a calming presence. He/she not being the judge of when/how/why you die, just the one who guides you to the afterlife. I imagine they would greet you as an old friend, beckoning you to follow them.
Gama goori That was a death of a certain Dead Zone. Since Adventure time creatures commonly resemble ones from mythology, so I imagine there are a lot of creatures that claim to be and look like "Death" across the Adventure Time multiverse. However, Cosmic Owl probably exists all over the multiverse (since he can travel to the Prismo time room). An the whole concept of Croak Dream is really similar to Death. Basically Cosmic Owl exists as the being you see before you die, and prophecizes death.
It makes almost no sense for the Angel of Death to be hanging around any cemetery, people buried area already dead. It makes a ton more sense for him to be hanging around a hospital, or a war zone.
Death does not kill... He is the one who ushers you to the beyond... He is an old friend we should not fear. But welcome. So long as you've lived well. don't fear. The reaper
Death from The Seventh Seal and Death from Monty Python alongside Last Action Hero are some of the better ones off this list to me. Hellboy 2's Death is also awesome as well.
I Boostify another good abstract one would be The Ghost of Christmas Future in almost any Christmas Carol adaptation. All he shows is the death of Scrooge and Tiny Tim and is usually depicted as a typical reaper. I like how Jim Carrey's version did it with it only being seen as a shadow or reflection of something
Sam should have been an honorable mention. Death from the Discworld series should have been in the top 10. I am happy to see that death from Baron Munchausen at least made the honorable mentions.
I don't understand why people think the grim reaper/death, is a bad guy/girl. He/she guides souls to their intended resting place. Whether it be heaven or hell. He's/she's there to help you in the after life so that you are not afraid and have someone there with you. His/her job is to make sure you don't get lost and are taken to your rightful end.
i’m pretty sure death is a guy; are you using he/she pronouns to be respectful because you don’t want to assume, or are you genuinely uninformed as to what gender death is? btw i don’t think the construct of gender was relevant at the time of greek mythology lmao
Terry Pratchett's Death should have been here. I'm torn between him and The Seventh Seal. This quote is when Death from Discworld is speaking with Azrael, who is the Death of everything: “ALL THINGS THAT ARE, ARE OURS. BUT WE MUST CARE. FOR IF WE DO NOT CARE, WE DO NOT EXIST. IF WE DO NOT EXIST, THEN THERE IS NOTHING BUT BLIND OBLIVION. AND EVEN OBLIVION MUST END SOMEDAY. LORD, WILL YOU GRANT ME JUST A LITTLE TIME? FOR THE PROPER BALANCE OF THINGS. TO RETURN WHAT WAS GIVEN. FOR THE SAKE OF PRISONERS AND THE FLIGHT OF BIRDS." Death took a step backwards. It was impossible to read expression in Azrael's features. Death glanced sideways at the servants. "LORD, WHAT CAN THE HARVEST HOPE FOR, IF NOT FOR THE CARE OF THE REAPER MAN?”
I personally love the Final Destination version of Death. The idea of Death not being a physical entity, but probability given a dark personification and intelligence makes for a very suspenseful film when the antagonist is something that you can’t see.

why? why do you feel a need to identify death as a women? why is it important? Death is not human anyways.
Yes. There was some talk of a movie, Piers even said that the movie rights had been sold - but nothing has come of it...
@@loraweems8712 the closest we’ve got is the Dead Like Me TV show
@@CharlemagneGuy127 true. I enjoyed the show
The whole series was amazing. All 7 of them. My personal favorite was " For Love of Evil" . "Bearing an Hourglass" was odd but fun. ✌️🖖
@@russward2612 There's an 8th one, you know. Or are you just skipping that on purpose because you didn't like it ala the whole "There's only three Star Wars films" thing?
'Fictitious realisations of death."? As opposed to the non-fiction depictions?
Well that's a thought provoking comment. Could one not say a virus, as the potential for death, is a realization of death?
Death does not exist
Cold does not exist
Darkness does not exist
We do
VicariousReality7 Oh sorry, lets just change everything from death to "absence of life" to appease your abstract thinking.
VicariousReality7 how can death be real if our eyes arent real
I can't believe you put Morte in this, even if it's just an honorable mention! It makes me really glad to see that some of the good brazilian movies get international recognition.
Jose Mujica Marins.The coffin Joe.
Zé do Caixão, caraaai!!!
now we need a videogame version of this
death from castlevania !!
A watchmojo video game would be weird
Already done mate
The Strange Man, from Red Dead?
Death from Darksiders.
Sam or Samhain is NOT Death or a personification whatsoever. He's the spirit of Halloween. smh.
Er... isn't it a little redundant in a way to have the Death from Last Action Hero and Bill and Ted in this AND have Death from the Seventh Seal? I mean, the other two are both references to the Seventh Seal one...
watchmojo dude u cant except anything from them ...
if by redundant you mean brilliant then yes it is very redundant
mic eatah WATCHMOJO is BEST MOJO
"The Mask of the Red Death" is originally a novel by Edgard Allan Poe
The seventh seal (det sjunde inslaget) is quite frankly a masterpiece, ever since I was a child me and my mom would quote it just for fun! And there's these particular lines i know by heart! I really do recommend it to pretty much anyone as it is a visual masterpiece
I've seen it it's pretty good
I love the seventh seal
Where is death from Disc World
I think both Terry Pratchett's and J K Rowling's versions of Death deserved at least some mention in this list.
Terry Pratchette's death can be summed up perfectly as this. "Despite what many think, death is not cruel. He is just very good at his job."
+Nathan Kingham I hate the Grim Reaper in Baron Munchausen
Discworld Death is my personal favourite
Jason Catoggio in disc world......
I miss the death of the discworld. Albeit it was only portrayed yet in TV-movies (like Hogwarts), and in the novel-series of the great Terry Pratchett it is clearly THE DEATH PERSONIFICATION OF ALL THE MOVIES
+Lightningchase1973 i recently started discworld and am on book two, and my uncles says its rly good. is it?
Orion Freed Indeed they are excellent. Great Humor. Very nice parody on real world, od these and ancient days, on clishes and on stereotypes. Also a real good mixup of classical (slapstick), hidden and a good splash of very black humor.
+Lightningchase1973 yes, I agree. I was wondering if it would be there when I started watching and was quite disappointed...
+Orion Freed it is perfect! I already finished stories of Night Watch (really sad about it, it was GREAT)
The Death you showed in the solomon kane honourable mention wasn't death.
You only see the devils reaper at the beginning of the film.
Such an awesome reaper
Yeah its a shame he wasn't more prevalent in the film. i mean technically he's always there waiting for solomon to fuck up but we never see him
Solomon kane's reaper deserved a spot on the list it was done so well
Flying Rancid M00n Fish My only gripe was that he didn't have a scythe of fire, but a sword. other than that he was amazing.
Yeah, I noticed that too. He's one of my favorite depictions of Death in movies lqtm.
American Horror Story's Angel of Death played by Frances Conroy one of my favs
It may just be me, but I never found the ending of "The Seventh Seal" to be depressing. The knight goes from resisting to the inevitable to accepting it and truly escapes from the world of death and misery that surrounds him in mortal life. It is probably one of the most uplifting endings in a Bergman film.
They forgot Death from the Discworld Series by Terry Pratchett! Most notably seen in the Hogfather in my opinion.
i know its not a movie but the depiction of the Grim Reaper in The Hogfather was really good / the classic look =)
***** I agree, the Hogfather,s Grim Reaper is great! In fact, that is what got me interested in Terry Pratchett's Disc World series.
***** they made it into sort of a movie. that was my favorite depiction of death anyways.
I know it's from an animated family movie, but Death from the Last Wish deserves to be on this list.
No doubt
It probably would, would this video have been made today
6:23 Ian Mckellen? when did you go from Gandalf the Grey to Angel of Death?
Hate to be the one to have to tell you... he's this thing called an actor
+Deere55 i know
He actually was a Shakespeare stage actor for a very long time before doing any film work. No wonder he's freaking awesome.
Sir Ian Mckellen actually, give the man his proper title!
no way? For All I know, He's Magneto.
Okay, by your own admission, Sam from Trick 'r' Treat is not a personification of death ... So why is he on a list of personifications of death?
Zachary Matthew James Meh, I dunno..
The Tale Of The Three Brothers from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1
+Margootemansj That whole segment was beautiful...
amazing sequence
There should have been mention of the death Character from Terry Pratchett's Discworld series.
Cats are nice
Death in the Discworld series.
Seriously, I was waiting for it the entire video.
Me too. He is the most awesome ever.
Sadly not a list of great literature.
They made a couple movies with death. Christopher lee does the voice in some. The Hogfather(movie) one is probably the best.
Modi Young I think it wasn't a contender because they were tv movies/mini series.
Death in supernatural shpuld have atleast been an honorable mention
Sean R not a movie, dumass
Jarlaxle Baenre haha calling other people dumbass and i cant even spell XD
Death the "Hogfather" - "Teatime : I'd rather you didn't try any last-minute stuff.
Death : I AM last-minute stuff."
I would have had Death from "The Hogfather"
And definitely dropped that snot-nosed Sam from the list, he's a serial killer.
That doesn't make him Death/the Grim Reaper/Santa Mort, same goes for the goofus from the Michael J Fox film!
Mojo need to watch more Terry Pratchett programs, could have done a double listing to Sir Terry - you have Death in his incarnate form from Weird Sisters at #2 and from the Hogfather at #1 makes sense to me!
Jesus Christ! It's Jesus Christ!
Sam is more like the Spirit of Halloween than Death IMHO !! :P
NinjaAdorable Agree.
yup
Agree
Excuse me. Hogfathers Death in Discworld. He was voiced by Christopher Lee. He was amazing.
and not the only time Sir Terry's Death appeared in film.
I believe you'll find Death in the Sky version of Hogfather was voiced by Ian Richardson, not Christopher Lee.
One of my personal favourite representations of death will always be Neil Gaiman's death
"Death has a body like a model, the clothes of a poet and the smile of your best friend.
Top 10 Video Game Depictions of the Grim Reaper or Death!!
Darksiders 2 should win
gameronthe roof
Mr. Grimm from Twisted Metal 2!
Thanatos from God of War: GoS
and Death from Dantes Inferno & Castlevania
Justin Kane yes those are all great ones too!
Nito
Dahaka from Prince of Persia Warrior Within
Great Video! *this is an amazing list! keep up the awesome work!*
Wait a minute, why is the Angel of Death for Hellboy no.10? The creepy design and voice were great!
yeah i agree its one of my favorite movies of all time! geesh that thing still gives me nightmares o.o
TheSwedishViking Haha, me too with Del Toro's Pale Man from Pan's Labyrinth! Man, that guy is a genius with eldritch creations.
his hands looked too fat if you ask me. just a random thought
Perry Davis Lol, well, he/ she/ ? ain't human... :P
I agree, best death by far... greatest artistry and imagination of the bunch. I think it's just less known.. Which is too bad, because this is one fine film. If you weren't satisfied with the tiny glimpses of Guillermo Del Toro's fantasy world in Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy 2 delivers what you crave
!
I think you might have accidentally played the list backwards.
Scias I totally agree. Nbr 10 was my favourite by far and large
Scias With the number one choice, definitely not.
+Scias What the fuck are you on about #1 is spot on!
+germanpenn me too
Kinda disappointed that Death from The Hogfather wasn't on here, he was the best
Let's not forget the death of rats.
@@patrickmcpherson97 *SQUEAK.*
THAT'S CORRECT.
This needs to be updated for Puss in boots: the last wish
Christopher Walken was an awesome Death in Click.
no Terry Pratchet Death!?!! are you fucking kidding me?!
I know, right? Granted, he doesn't have much screen time in Color of Magic, but he does have more in Hog Father. Also, I would love if they made his book Mort into a movie. That would be awesome!
WHAT? What about the Death in The Hogfather or The Color of Magic? He was frickin awesome!
I always pictured Death/Grim Reaper as a calming presence. He/she not being the judge of when/how/why you die, just the one who guides you to the afterlife. I imagine they would greet you as an old friend, beckoning you to follow them.
All of this and not even a nod to Death from any Discworld? The depiction in Hogfather is absolutely brilliant, come ON.
That one was awesome :D i wonder why they didnt even mention anything about him , he was way more fun as well ^^
Trick r Treat doesn't count.
horrorjunkie92 If trick r treat counts then Silent Hill's Pyramid head should at least get a mention
My favourite version of Death is the Cosmic Owl from Adventure Time
Lol
Spoils of the Interwebs Wait the Cosmic Owl was an entity but not death. Death was that Skeleton that Finn had to have that "musical battle" with.
Spoils of the Interwebs Ooohh okay that makes sense. Thanks man,the more you know.
Chauliodus my favourite is JOHN WICK
The best is obviously The Seventh Seal. The second best imo is the Death from the show Supernatural
What about Grim from The Adventures of Billy and Mandy?lol
It had a movie, but it was in TV depitctions of the grim reaper also can't spell lmao
I Hate when the Grim Reaper is Depicted as an Evil Characters
death from supernatural t.v. show.
Check out: Deceptions of the Grim Reaper in TV
Diago Gallegos is it a t.v show, documentary or movie?
+reksub No just search it on RUclips
Dryad cheers mate.
No kidding. Not to mention we have almost a full season of build-up to his arrival.
It makes almost no sense for the Angel of Death to be hanging around any cemetery, people buried area already dead. It makes a ton more sense for him to be hanging around a hospital, or a war zone.
Sam doesn't represent Death, he represents the true horrific spirit of Halloween.
You should've included the Hogfather from the Discworld movies!
Christopher Walken in Click at least deserved an honorable mention.
My favorite has to be the Grim Reaper as he's depicted in the British kids' TV show, "Horrible Histories".
Nice
Stupid deaths, stupid deaths, hope next time it's not you! Comes with a catchy song as well. For kids or not that show is hilarious.
Death does not kill... He is the one who ushers you to the beyond... He is an old friend we should not fear. But welcome. So long as you've lived well. don't fear. The reaper
It's not a movie, but my favorite Grim Reaper is the one from Family Guy :p
he's #1 on their other list for tv shows
Mine is Greg from Conker's Bad Fur Day.
Lol Greg good memories
Death from The Seventh Seal and Death from Monty Python alongside Last Action Hero are some of the better ones off this list to me. Hellboy 2's Death is also awesome as well.
For me, Supernatural got an awesome version of death! That epic scene with the song "Oh Death"
Watch this ruclips.net/video/SZiifOnhaqE/видео.html
It's a shame that Reaper Man never actually made it to television. It's probably my favorite story about my favorite interpretation of Death.
Hey, where is DEATH from Discworld ?
Kulovi Cz so try he was epic
Draken Bulbapedia yeah he had perfect joke what he dont mean like joke. :-D
Yeah i agree where is susans grandfather hehe
An abstract Death you could have included is the animated section in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows called: The Tale of Three Brothers.
Neon Light I thought that would be at least in the top 3
I think Christopher Lee's Death in The Color of Magic is one of my favorites, sad it wasn't on the list :(
@Pivos Pivepic nah it just shoulda been on this list haha
Sam should have been an honorable mention. Death from the Discworld series should have been in the top 10.
I am happy to see that death from Baron Munchausen at least made the honorable mentions.
Love The Seventh Seal, one of my fav old movies ever.
Same here!
Have you seen any of Bergman's other works? If not I recommend Wild Strawberries, Through a glass Darkly and The magician
"Hon, you didn't use canned Salmon, did you?"
Stereotypes.Anything deadly or death defying is "bad".
El Cancer tsk not all the Death we are talking about is God's Creation duhh,
you must be fun at parties
i’m pretty sure death is a guy; are you using he/she pronouns to be respectful because you don’t want to assume, or are you genuinely uninformed as to what gender death is? btw i don’t think the construct of gender was relevant at the time of greek mythology lmao
mark roxas fr💀💀
Terry Pratchett's Death should have been here. I'm torn between him and The Seventh Seal. This quote is when Death from Discworld is speaking with Azrael, who is the Death of everything:
“ALL THINGS THAT ARE, ARE OURS. FOR THE SAKE OF PRISONERS AND THE FLIGHT OF BIRDS."
Death took a step backwards.
It was impossible to read expression in Azrael's features.
Death glanced sideways at the servants.
"LORD, WHAT CAN THE HARVEST HOPE FOR, IF NOT FOR THE CARE OF THE REAPER MAN?”
