Nathan Evans is a former postman from Scotland. At the end of 2020, he triggered an internet boom on TikTok with his a cappella version of the New Zealand shanty that originated in the 19th century. There are critics that make a connection between the lyrics, the isolation on a whaler and the isolation during the lockdown, thus explaining the success. Since then, there have been countless versions of the song on social media by amateurs, hobby musicians and professionals. Due to the boom, Evans signed a major record deal, re-recorded the song and reached number 1 in the charts in many European countries such as the UK and Germany. He has given up his job as a postman and I heard that a new album is going to be released.
...and there you are....my Educational Guru. 😏. Why thank you, Sir. Wow, thats all fascinating. Thanks. Happy to see you awakened JUST to see our channel. Awww. 😁
Love Sea Shanties. Was going to give you history of this Scottish Postie but you have already been educated. I have a weakness for Jigs and Sea Shanties as my previous husband was from Newfoundland. I did not hear this song until a few months ago. While everyone else was enjoying Lockdown, putting their feet up and trying out new hobbies, I was working my ass off & way too busy for social media. 🥰🥰🥰🇨🇦
Lolol, "putting their feet up and trying new hobbies". Well, you must be working your azz of now also...cause it feels I havent seen you in a week. 🤔. Great to see you now. Its a catchy, groovy song. ~ Tazzz ~
