This drumline is absolutely ridiculous. Already sounding this great this early too. It’s therapy watching them play. Rennick and Co. is doing it like they didn’t even have a year off. Thank you for posting
It’s too bad they felt some bizarre need (like most of DCI now) to lose their beautiful visual identity for the sake of faddish, silly-looking pajamas. This whole thing would’ve looked absolutely awesome in the real, crisply classy Vanguard uniforms, with the legendary Aussie hats. But…oh well. We’re supposed to just never say anything, because some video-game-raised kid will get offended at the idea of criticism.
@@ikshieldsEXACTLY!!!!!! That's the only thing I really despise about the new era of DCI. It's great players in flamboyant pajamas. I'm not mad at the color. I think if they had their hats, and uniforms, in this color it would be cool. Bit some of these costumes some of these corps wear are cringe.
Rennick signature style. Very iconic and objectively more successful than any other percussion era in corps history, but to me, the SCV iconic style will forever be the 1990s and 2000s.

What makes SCV great isn't only the fact that they have great writing and great playing. To me, what makes them great is the mirror image down the line. Everyone sticks in at same time. It just looks uniform. Nowadays drum lines all look like bobble heads cause they all are "Feeling it." It looks kinda tacky. These players look like a well oiled machine. Always great.
@@DrOshawottI wouldn’t say he’s speaking down, what he says is true. It’s fine if the other lines are feeling it, but the uniformity of SCV is visually pleasing.

I played in drum corps in the late 90s, and ive always hated the way warm up exercises got soooooo complicated over the years. I love that scv is returning to the basics of clean and amazing.
The musicality in Paul's writing right from the jump with that perfectly executed crescendo and all the tasty beats. And this is how you win more Sanfords.
I know this is gonna sound weird, but I respect that they put the tall kid in a position to really play - instead of gravitating to the "level snares visually" thing. Dig.
I marched in Cadets 89-91 in the snare line. We had our drums so uncomfortably low in 91 to accommodate wearing the other 10 tenors (yeah, we had 15). So glad the tall guy gets to comfortably drum!
This line makes a lot of the other lines look so kid like…these guys look/sound so professional…there’s like no bs lot performance…. just playing clean and winning.
Sooooooo Goooood!!! And the tuning is impeccable, between the tenors and bass, the way they blend and the harmonic cadencing that is happening is next level.
What i love about SCV is their excersizes are basic and straight to the point. They don't have some flashy and funky warmup sequence like other groups. They don't plan on winning in the lot, they prepare to win on the field.
@@alexwijma1279 I've noticed a difference in mentality between the corps that became prominent in the 21st century and those that were prominent beforehand. Bloo, Crown, and Boston seem to care more about flashy and funky warmup sequences than corps like BD, SCV, Cavies, etc (though Boston's technique and book is still old-school; this along with their members being stoic while performing makes them easily the most "old-school" of the "new bloods"). McNutt-era Cadets had a noticeably different warmup vibe than McNutt-era Boston. Ironically, it was 2000s SCV that started the whole "show before the show" the lot became.

Dayum, I remember rennick saying he’ll always have 5 quads and 9 snares because going lower means the line world class or something along those lines. So it’s weird seeing only 4 quads after so long
Are those a new model of Dynasty snares? Seems like they’re completely free floated like Pearls and Ludwig now. I also saw on the SCV Instagram the drums this year are have stave shells as well? Is Paul cooking something up with Dynasty or are these one offs?
yeah he designed these for this season. i do believe he’s leaning more towards the new shells being permanent bc now they’re one solid piece of wood instead of a multiple ply laminate.
Why exclude cymbals? I just looked up - what apparently has to be mutually exclusive - videos of the cymbals and... gat dayum. Absolute beasts. Impressive. Arm workout like that every day?
