I just think this line is cleaner than boston with a better touch on the drum. just my opinion. Also that traditional drums to the box thing is so hype. Wish more groups would still do that.
Ugh so on the fence about that really like bostons book this year. But SCV killing it with the visuals and and intensity. Specially center snare stank face, dude can throw down!
@samcherry what's so musical about tap 5s and 5 stroke rolls into buzz rolls and 16th notes lmfao. 80 percent of it sounds like a high-school cadence. Easier doesn't equal more musical lmao
Damn!!!! That is a tasty, meaty book! Way to go, SCV. My favorite line of DCI 2024. Saw these guys early in Clovis and could tell they would be the top line. 1st in Semis last night…. It’s their to lose tonight, but that won’t happen. Rennick is a beast
Meaty? Since when is playing slow 5 stroke rolls, tap 5s and buzz rolls meaty? Yea they got maybe 3 or 4 cool licks in there but 80 percent of that book is kindergarten city. This is a vegan book compared to bostons.
@@marklower007flam drags, fast singles, fast 6tuplet 4s at 12”, (Boston only does those 4s at 9”-at most), fast low rolls w/ different accent patterns, all the open space…that’s what scv does, and they do it better than Boston…I will say Boston’s baseline is hands down better tho.
Phenomenal recording, thank you!! Man I love how aggressive their approach was this year. My fave Rennick book in probably a decade. Way to go JONZ!!! 🎉❤💚
@@mel-px7hl There have been plenty of times where Paul's lines have not gotten 1st place with a "Rennick era tech" judging (speaking from experience). There is plenty of evidence from this season that this group plays undeniably well, and deserves this level of recognition without it being written off as bias.
Boston is incredible, but they don’t have the same tone quality as SCV during their faster passages. They tend to lift their hands and play with the tip of the bead to push out all the notes, which at that speed you almost have to do, but it definitely effects your ability to play all the way through to the snares. It’s crazy nitpicking one of the best lines in the world, but BC is so good you have to.
There are nits to pick with Boston, but sound quality isn't one of them. Clarity remains the biggest challenge for Boston with a very dense book. SCV doesn't get the same volume output per player but they're just cleaner.
You switched em. Boston plays way more through the head than SCV. The clean you’re hearing is tuning preference. Listen to both at 75% or 50%. SCV plays a lot of easy stuff really grey. The basses are not even close to playing in time. You are hearing snare wetness and equating that with clean. It’s ok to prefer a sound. But don’t say things you don’t really know about.
@@kingofrats9311 not really that wild of a take. Listen to the other basslines by themselves. The rhythmic accuracy is just not there for SCV. Simple rhythms like triplets and sixteenths are inconsistent, 3s and 4s don’t have the same rhythmic integrity. Watch Boston, Crown, BD, Bluecoats, etc. just basses. Slow down the playback. It’s not the same. And also he said up is down, war is peace. This is the correct response. Not aggressive, just explained thoroughly in a way that works in a RUclips comment. If he wants to go to lots and see the difference for himself, that’s fine.

Fred would confer their best work ever, would not call them goat, you must repeat serveral times,.Best SCV drumline ever in my opinion, will repeat if we have a country next year.
The Mcnutt fans hating on Rennick lines has been going on for ages even when Mcnutt was at the cadets. And they give bs excuses like “scv doesn’t deserve to win bc their hands look weird”. Case in point: 2014, 2016
McNutt and Rarick fans have definitely joined forces to hate on SCV ever since McNutt went to Boston though. You didn't hear Boston fans be salty about the 2022 Sanford outcome. I feel like it's rooted in the fact that younger fans like "new money" corps like Boston & Bluecoats (as well as Crown) compared to "old guard" corps like SCV.

Fantastic. Signature sound. I really appreciate how they have remained so stylistically Vanguard. But certainly a touch or so beneath what Boston is doing.
@Inspadave I think what he is saying is stylistically it still sounds like a Rennick book (ie. dynamics, touch, phrasing, etc.), but as far as chops go it's not as beefy as Boston's book BUT respectively it is not far behind either.
