CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Waiting at the hospital, Jake (Kevin Bacon) thinks back on his marriage as his wife, Kristy (Elizabeth McGovern), has emergancy surgery while giving birth to their child.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
An aspiring writer faces up to the responsibilities of marriage and family in this romantic comedy from writer, director, and producer John Hughes. Despite the misgivings he pours out to best friend Davis McDonald (Alec Baldwin), Jake Briggs (Kevin Bacon) marries high-school sweetheart Kristy (Elizabeth McGovern). After an abortive attempt at graduate school in New Mexico, the couple settles in suburban Chicago. Jake fakes his way into a job as an advertising copywriter, while Kristy settles into her own corporate job. The couple faces the typical ups and downs of any new marriage, especially after Davis visits with a bimbo on his arm, regaling his pal Jake with tales of the good life. A few years later, Kristy decides to stop taking her birth-control pills -- and tells Jake about it three months later. Plagued by doubts, unfulfilled ambitions, and images of a fantasy girl (Isabel Lorca) he once spotted in a club, Jake resists the idea of fatherhood. Then he finds out he has low sperm count and, his manhood thus challenged, lines up for fertility clinic-assisted stud duty. The birth doesn't go as smoothly as Jake expected, however, setting the stage for climactic realizations. Edie McClurg, who played the nosy school secretary in Hughes' Ferris Bueller's Day Off, makes a cameo appearance as an officious neighbor. In addition, a who's who of other Hughes alums and Hollywood stars lend their faces and voices to a series of closing-credits shots in which each suggests a name for the titular baby.

This song should have been at least nominated for the Oscar.
It's a fave 💛 Great movie, and music.
The last time I saw this movie. I was 16 and life was simple.
I thought. I will become a Dad one day.
Decades later I have two wonderful Boys.
13 and 5.
Lost one in between. Could have been the girl.
I guess I’ll see her in heaven.
Happy Holidays everyone.
Just mentioning her she is with you everyday You are blessed
Despite her not being with you she is still part of you, she has changed you, continues to affect you. She is more a part of your life than you perhaps realise ♥ ..and those boys, if they're anything like mine "wonderful" is code for absolute choas. Enjoy it :)
Kevin Bacon deserved an Oscar for this performance. So realistic and heartbreaking
Bingo The One-eyed Wondercat yes he should’ve gotten one.
33 years old and this still makes me tear up.
i know what u mean buddy
46 same
Ralph Mouth me2!
Now you are 39! Just like me! Still a good movie!
John Hughes gave us so many feels...
The best RIP
I cried and cried through this. We had already been through 2 years of infertility when we saw this. Eventually things worked out, and not only were we blessed with 2 sons but now a granddaughter.
Survivrs I cry everytime I see this...
Congrats!!!! Great movie and song by Kat Bush :)
One of the most moving scenes ever on film thanks in part to the song. I was just a kid watching this movie and don't remember much of it, but this scene and song have never left my mind.
Lola S same here!!! NEVER!!
Exactly 💯
Right here with yall!
JOHN HUGHES we miss you. Thank you for the movies and memories. RIP.
This situation grew him up.
birth is a crossroads awaking for the woman to grow up.
Jason Wilson YES!
How come we never realize what we have until its almost gone? :(
i agree with u
FACTS! I’m trying my best every day to enjoy people around me so true.
John Hughes defined my 80's cinematic experience. A formula lost on the MTV generation. RIP dude. x
After all these years this scene and song still leaves a lump in my throat from crying. I love this song so much. I miss the 80's when movies and songs had such depth and left an unforgettable emotional impact .
This scene made me cry so much! This part was very well put together.
Im single with no kids and makes me tear up
Hughes rightfully gets credit for being such a great writer but he was also an excellent visual storyteller and this scene shows it. If you look at the opening of Breakfast Club, the museum scene in Ferris Bueller or the ending of Planes Trains and Automobiles you can see it too. He lets the music and the characters faces and body language do the talking.
I think Kevin Bacon is so adorable in this movie with those big glasses, I remember that I used to have ones like that, those were the days :)
This song makes me think of my mom, who was sick with cancer, and all the pain and suffering she went through. She's been gone now for over 10 years, but it still feels like it was yesterday! I love and miss you mom, so much! RIP, with Jesus and Bro. I called my father bro, if anyone is wondering. I love and miss you too bro ❤️. I would give my life for one more second with them!!!😭😭
Sending you hugs 🤗❤xx
Sorry for your Mom and bro I lost my Mom and Dad a month apart When my Mom past I lost a part of my soul I understand
This song is one to listen to when u have gone though the heartbreak of losing a pregnancy or a child during birth 😖😳
Love this movie and song. 💕
Or when also you have one that you find out is pretty seriously disabled at 18 months.
it really annoys me how so many people go on about maxwell yes i like his version but shes an amazing singer and she wrote this song specially for this film! well done Kate!!
Exactly
Nice touch by Hughes @ 1:34, when Jake drops a single tear, and then we see a slow-motion drop of blood impact the OR floor.
Pete Moss I was thinking the same thing.
I love this movie, think the whole thing is beautifully done. This part is always the best bit though
yep, i can't handle this!! back to hair tutorials!!
I think of my mother passing away from Cancer every time I hear this song. Kate Bush is my favorite eighties popular singer.
This is one of the best movies and thus is an amazing moment in it.
I absolutely balled my eyes out at this scene...don't know why I actually watched this move, I'm more of a Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Horror person. Worth the watch though, Kevin Bacon, awesome actor.
Like so many things in this odd little movie, the operating room looks too exaggerated to be believed, but at the same time, these melodramatic visuals sort of work in a music video reality sort of way. The emotion takes over the logic and carries us through.
hard not to cry during this part
Very much true. I seriously cry every time this part shows.
I cry watching this video!
Saw this on a winter's night and remember the song, the moment, and the magic. RIP John Hughes...
I'm glad the husband can be there most of the time for the delivery. It's not just women's work. Men can help too, and they do by being with their partner. They're the reason the mother can stay calm sometimes. Though sadly I know, like in this case, the doctors need to concentrate and the partner can't be allowed in if there are complications. Sad that sometimes the man's work is to sit out in the waiting room worrying.
First time I ever heard this song was here. And the first time I heard a Kate Bush song ever, good point to start is all I can say :)
Did you ever hear Maxwell's Version. It's also so beautiful.
Isn't that the guy who sang "Somebody's watching me"??
n84434 nah thats Rockwell :D
Beautiful Song
Love this show....and this song makes me tear up everytime😢
Kate Bush 😍 Kevin bacon amazing actor
Such a beautiful scene. It makes me think this one woman who has made such a big impact on me. We have been friends for a while but somewhere down the road. . . I have fallen in love with her. I want to tell her so bad. But I'm afraid of getting hurt. She is everything I have ever wanted.
Best of luck, hope it works out.
@@apani4015 thanks. She is incredible.
I was a kid seeing this. I balled. I still do
Great movie.........brings back a lot of memories from 1987.......
Best scene ever
Great movie and a great song, but horrible begin and end points in this video clip. Comes in too late, and leaves too early.
agreed.
February 17th, 2023 I think '80s were best made movies 🎥🎬🎬
I LOVE THIS SONG YES CRIED EVERY TIME AND STILL DO WHEN I SEE THIS PART.
One of the weak moments in my life...since this movie i am a big Kevin Bacon fan!

The 80's were the best
one of my favorite movies.
Okay I've never seen this movie and this clip just popped up on my home page and I'm in tears
the move underrated song
@user-mm1rv9fs2s Kate was underrated in America for much of her work. Did pretty well everywhere else.
I was wondering how the heck anyone could give a thumbs down to this song... then I realized after the 1st harsh cut-in and the 2nd harsh cut-out (for 'ego advertising') edits I was ready to give it a thumbs down as well.
Adorable and beautiful Elizabeth McGovern
How is this song not still out here
@Dani-ICU-RN In Tom Hanks movie, Jenifer Lopez movie and about half a dozen Netflix shows.
Kate Bush - This Woman's Work
The Baconator!
I don't care what you believe or who you believe in if anything, but we all look up in times like this just like Kevin bacon does and there is a reason for it
This version is sung by Kate Bush.
Plus written and produced.
God, it always gets me on every angle.
Loved this movie and I cry when see this
me too dude
I wished my husband loved me as much as the emotion in this scene💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔
Kevin bacon is a fabulous actor
I concur
This song and scene have made me ugly cry since I was a kid. I listened to it again for the first time in years today and lost it. It probably doesn't help that I'm currently pregnant. 😅 Such a touching, memorable scene and song.
this scene is almost the same, like the first 10 minutes in "up"
Ned Schneebly right!
I cried watching this movie and UP 😭😭😭😭 both are GREAT
Maxwell made this song so soulful.
I agree! Right now it’s 51-49, original version!
@AlexisSoloman Too many cringe, sleaze 'n' cheese R&B inflections. Sounds like he's trying to weasel his way into someone's panties.
Mrspinky I was thinkin the same thing lol. theres no comparison.
A touching moment
Love❤️
When this country made great movies...
@nicolasmoyano2868 ........and British women wrote great songs.

Brenda .Carolina
Same.
Ugly cry every time I see this
does anyone remember the scene after this? i do believe it was right before the ending. it was more of a monolouge by bacon. it was a great speech/ piece of writing. i'd like to be able to find it.
It was the ending to the book he was writing through ought the movie. at the end they show the manuscript and it says "She's having a baby" by Jake Briggs :)))))
this is so sad
Amazingly beautiful

Roy orbeson
wooooow
Como se llama esta cancion?
This woman’s work by Kate Bush.
One of the BEST comedic scenes EVER!
disgusting and slanderous. comerical where the lady says look out while she drops baby out is funny. this is glorified abuse, watch people puke with jaw wired. real birth is Leftovers standing against a wall rocking lettting tail bone flap to make room and hit baby out in the direcction of gavity. Real birth is kneeling in warm water orgasmicly with a woman proud of what she has done for the past 9 months and is doing now.
You need to rewrite your comment, primarily, so I know what the heck you're talking about.
Christy's mom said in an earlier scene she went through a very difficult time when she was giving birth to her, while her dad was out on the golf course. Oy. Also, this sequence shows Christy and Jake having good times in flashback, but until thud montage movie focuses on the stresses of their relationship. Maybe it's to show that Jake's anxieties are allowed too much of his attention and that it takes a crisis to make him realize that his marriage has had its positives, but I never did quite get this approach. I guess I'm not really much of a fan of the movie because it doesn't quite gel for me.
@Brianna Willis SPOILER!!!! sorry guys
lol.......
maybe i will >:D
FYI she lived and had a boy. May their one and only but he’s creation
no it was all happy in the end coz the dad thought the baby had died.. but it hadnt
