Damien Schmitt
Born in a family of musicians, Damien first learned playing the drums with his father
From the age of 4, he practiced as a musician directly on stage.
His mother being a piano teacher and singer in the family band, he took an early interest in singing and learned to play several instruments including bass and guitar which quickly became his favourite.
At 16 years old he produced, directed and released his first album under the name Yossoma. He sings and plays all the instruments on this record.
After this first experience as a professional recording artist and director, he created his band where he was writing music and texts. This band ended up performing at the final of the “Printemps de Bourges” festival in France, a very important festival where many new talents started their professional career. The adventure continues and 3 years later he released a second album: Yossoma - FM Francophone Revolution.
2001 Damien moved to Paris. This is where he started playing as a live drummer on tour for the most famous French artists like Yannick Noah, Khaled, Gage, Alain Georges Jones, Emma Daumas, Zap Mama, Les Nubians ... He forged a solid reputation in the jazz fusion and played with Dominique Di Piazza, Jean-Marie Ecay, Hadrien Feraud. It also replaces Paco Sery in Sixun...
Offering also his talents on records, he is featured on a lot of best seller albums (see Discography) with for example Jannick Top & Eric Lelann, Bireli Lagrene, brothers Raymond, Hadrien Feraud. He is also a member of of Jean-Luc Ponty’s band since 2007.
In 2010 he started his collaboration with Alain Caron. They recorded 2 albums: "Septentrion(2010) Multiples Faces (2013)
Since 2010 he's playing in the amazing trio with alain Caron and Frank Gambale
In 2011 he created the XARDA PRODUCTION company with his partner Alex Grousset.
They created the educative APP for Android, Ipad,PC,MAC 'isYOURteacher' : isyourteacher.com
In 2012 Damien is called to be part, as a singer, to the well know TV Show: The Voice.
In 2013 his electro album 'Make Some Noise' came out under the name of Electro-Schmitt
In 2015 Damien will finally deliver The Dada Show's album , electro/Funk/Broken beat album.
As you can see Damien never stop working to offer you his best.

Why all the hate? In the pocket drumming, nice sound, tight, dynamic, didn't over play and nicely produced. Hope I get a recording of this standard.
I'm into metal. Jazz fusion and prog, this drumming is great. Only young drummers into flashy time fills don't appreciate stuff like this.

Damien Schmitt, you might be not the best funky drummer, but who cares??? We all should know, there is no BEST drummer at all! But is just like I said, you share first place with very few of them! And I feel very honored that I've had the chance to enjoy the show! There's a lot o people covering other bands and they do it mostly very good. But in my opinion, to re-invent something that was already there and embellish it with style and class in such a playful way, this is what makes a great out of a good! I want to thank You for sharing this with the world!

Clyde Stubblefield, Jabbo Starks, David Garibaldi, Stanton Moore, Bernard Purdy, Tony Williams, Chester Thompson, billy Martin, Dennis Chambers, etc, etc, are real kick ass funk drummers.

Its just gospel chops we have been playing this for about in our black churches in Chicago for 20 years. I'm sorry but best funk drummer ever ?? The drumming isn't bad but me as well as my 13 year old nephew can play these licks. I suppose a white dude playing gospel chops is a market right now though. I wish you luck man good video shades look kinda weird but its ur video.

Technique is too powerful for funk. Looks like punk or metal. Over head cymbal mashing a la Lars Ulrich has it's place and time on a different channel ;)

this type of music doesnt require any skill whatsoever. any one just starting out after a few mnts could easily do it. after all, theres no difference to it than any simple pop song -- in fact pop music is more difficult to drum to. so called funk is more simplified.
If you think funk is easy, you haven't played funk before.
funk was in mode in the begining of the 70s i recall and even then i found it stiff n rigid and really not very interestiong as it was so predictable and ....boring. no challenges there. it seems like it has taken the place of modern jazz which is a shame as its garbage in comparison. but then again a lot of todays "music" is garbage. dave brubeck quartet could run rings round any of these moronic patethic "funk" groups-- it would be better renamed junk music
I reiterate: If you think funk is easy, you haven't played funk before. What you think of the sound is another issue, but it isn't garbage just because you don't like it, and neither is "today's music" which is a pretty broad generalization on you're part. Music isn't supposed to sound like anything specific, let alone meet your expectations. Listen to what you like, but if you think there's nothing to learn from a genre that's still strong after fifty years in an industry that changes as fast as music, you're kidding yourself.

Boring. What's the point of being this technically able when you never play anything good? These kinds of solos have been flying around for 20 years at least.

Maybe this is too technical for you to be good, but in that case I won't share your opinion, because I can feel the soul and effort in this piece of art. It's fun to watch, fun to listen to - that's all I want from a music video. Cheers!
You can't be good and not technical, they go hand in hand. All the early rock greats were technical, skilled in rudiments.
