"What was it, you ask me? It is neither the hunt, the blood, nor the dream. It was the insight...the insight to see that you've suffered so very long for the sins of us all. But, I can take it, old hunter. For I am young compared to you. My heart and mind are not burdened compared to yours. And when the time comes that I too am driven to despair by this horrible hunter's dream, I too will wait for the successor that will free me from these shackles. But for now, I know we must dance. I know that even though you long for release and I am willing to sacrifice myself for it, you will not allow me to simply take your place and suffer your torment. So come, old hunter, dance this last Waltz with me, and then sleep...sleep unburdened by dreams and nightmares, free of torment. Free of these sins, and free of this suffering. Free of the sorrow of infinite tomorrows. Free like these sparrows, finally leaving these shadows."
Awesome seeing that my old comment was so well received that other people are spreading it around now. ^^ I see you've rephrased it a little bit here and there as well. Probably for the better, tbh: English isn't my native language so the phrasing of the original comment probably felt a little stilted. xD
@@GrahamChapman It is literally the best comment ever man!!! You killed it with that writing. I saw your comment and immediately knew it was my duty to spread the good word brother!!
Heheh, thanks dude. That's honestly very cool of you to say. ^^ Wanna know a funny thing? My tribute to Gehrman is actually the second YT comment I've written that has gotten that kinda reception. First one was a poem dedicated to Kefka from Final Fantasy VI that I wrote in the comments of Distant Worlds 2's Dancing Mad back in, like, 2010-2011 and that has been popping up a little bit here and there ever since. (If you want to read it, just google "heed the first movement" -- citation marks included -- and you should get a couple of search results.)
i found translate for last chorus: Good hunter, let me free you from this horrible dream I devoted my life to sustain this dream Oh insidious moon Oh misterious night Great one, look down upon me & grant eternal mercy Probably, thats the last chorus reffer to Gehrman himself, as he want set the player free from suffer, yet he has suffering & want to be freed
It's unconfirmed though, the composer provided lyrics for Ludwig and Laurence's theme but not Gehrman's. The current lyric is just players trying to make out what it is.
A very tragic moment in the game for sure, and very powerful one, Gherman is giving you the choice to be free from the hunter's dream at last but you decide to refuse leading to a battle against him when he basically just want to prevent you from being trap like him forever in this nightmare, with this masterpiece of a song on top of it, it was one of the greatest moment in video game i have experienced
I only choose to fight him so I can save him. So I can free him and take on his burden. We are just cogs in the machine that is this nightmare of a world. And his time is finally over.

If this doesn’t play at my funeral, I’m not dying.

That soft violin kicks me in the feeling's every time I hear it. I just feel the pain and loss I feel so vulnerable.
