I let my sister dog out not noticing a skunk out back. Fortunately he just got a stomp. I smell it often though.
As long as they do not feel a violent vibe towards them they are fine. They walk right around my mom in the backyard. Remove scent gland sweet pet.
I have many around my yard. They come and eat cat food out of my hand. Sometimes they're in the same bowl with the neighbourhood raccoons. It's the weirdest thing seeing a skunk a raccoon side by side eating out of the same bowl without being aggressive towards each other.

@@Saltine_American not true. I met one in the dark walking up the stairs from my back yard. We froze a second and I quickly backed up into my kitchen and closed the door. The skink saw I was no threat and didn’t spray. And these were not spraying.
Then I think about the woman caught on camera running up and down her porch because of the skunk chasing after her but her boots were too big and heavy to move fast.
To imagine something so adorable can be so detrimental to your nostrils if you're not careful 😩😩😩😂😂😂😍

We have them around our house and we love them. They eat a lot of japanese beatle grubs in the yard and are very beneficial to the environment. ☺️

I once raised 8 baby skunks in a one-bedroom apartment. They were adorbs, and yes, they are messy eaters. I remember one time stopping at a roadside fruit stand and getting them some blackberries - they became black and purple, instead of black and white. Anyway, they went through a release program and went into the wild - the best outcome. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for skunkies.

I had two of them as pets as a kid during the mid 80s through the late 90s. They make awesome pets, very friendly and lovable. They also play very rough expect to get scratches on your hands while playing but they mean no harm. Oh and they love to sleep up against you under the blankets.😂😂

Most around here don't like Skunks. Then I explain that they eat rattlesnakes. Then they say they don't like rattlesnakes. Then I explain that they too have an important role in maintaining other mammals. At some point, I have to explain why birds and bees are important. People around here look at me like I don't understand. They mostly look confused.

You can't train a skunk to spray. They just automatically know to from birth.

@@layla.2790 you can have that gland removed surgically, I believe. That way you can keep them as pets.
No one needs to train a wild animal what was already built into their system. Their ancestors have been doing it for thousands of years. If they get scared enough, they're going to do it.

My uncle’s doggo got spritzed but they bathed him in tomato juice and said it helped.
we use a mixture of h2o2, baking soda and dawn dish soap. Works like a charm

Not paying attention while driving one night I ran over a road-kill skunk. It was literally IMPOSSIBLE to get rid of the stench from my car. I spent HUNDREDS of dollars getting it shampooed and detailed several times!
Ultimately I had to sell the damn car!

I've always looked at them as sorta like . . . cats. I have a family of them living about fifty or so yards away; I occasionally see one traversing my back patio area late at night on the security camera - just waddling along.

Edit: ah, I see they‘ve corrected it.
If you leave a skunk alone the odds are they'll leave you alone. Twice I've been hunting and walking down logging roads, roads that are cut so logs can be removed, and had a skunk just pop out of the brush and walk beside me. It may have looked up at me but i was just trying to keep from doing anything that might scare it. They both walked step by step with me the longest was about 75 yds and then they just stepped back in the brush and walked away. I was probably more skeered than they were.
Besides, unless you you do something to frighten them they'll give you a couple warnings before spraying. 1st they'll face off with you, that's where you beat feet and go somewhere else. 2nd like in video they will stamp their feet, by now you should be gone but if you insist on staying the next thing will be turning around and pointing their tail to the clouds. The final warning if you're dumb enuff to still be there will be a short wagging of the tail. After that yer fucked, i believe they can spray 10 to 15 feet.
If you think the odor is bad when you pass a dead one on road up close will literally bring tears to your eyes. I had a malamute pup that hadn't been fully educated that came home one night with a stripe of skunk piss that started below his left eye and down his side. He slept outside that night. And believe me tomato juice, ketchup, or tomato paste doesn't do a damn thing. I used about 2 gallons of various concoctions on him. This was pre-interweb the only cures i had was hillbilly folklore.
But they are pretty docile creatures and will usually just leave you alone. I've had a couple friends who have tried to tame one, after having the sack that makes the vile liquid removed, said they were pretty decent pets.

I used to work at Petsmart and my favorite shift was the day this guy brought in a baby skunk and let me pet it. They're in the same family as Ferrets so I assume he was looking for ferret stuff to take care of the little guy but it was the cutest fluffiest thing. Skunks are amazing and are very misunderstood
My elderly aunt and I were once discussing how we wished we could rescue and protect everyone/everything. We spoke about the people who appear to have a superhuman ability to help so many. She said something I remember, when I watch this video and others, "They're special souls."

as long as can avoid the spray, scent, skunks are cool, if keep as pet, must have scent gland surgically removed...but they cool, my old man, after dinner would go sit on deck with drink, cigarette and news paper with a lil bit of cheese....he had a friendly full grown skunk that would come up on deck as soon as saw my father and plop down rt alongside, dad would feed pieces of cheese, mom always cried "you're gonna get sprayed" he never did

So cute. I have a friend who has two pet skunks and she takes them arround steampunk markets all the time and they are so gentle and always want a hug or to be pet. And you can't carry them on no they both have to ride on her neck and shoulders like a fur scarf they are only happy there. Never sprayed and just want lots of love. Hehe At the market one year a trader was selling fairy wings you could put on your back. Waldo the skunk went to visit her and came back out with a pair of green glittery fairy wings on his back. Such sweet little guys and very loving.
