I think that this quote from the episode applies well, "The more you learn about wildlife, the more you can appreciate..."
They were referring to nature and the animal's natural habitat specifically, but I think that this could apply to the animal itself as well. The more we understand wild animals (or domestic, in fact all animals for that matter) the more we can appreciate them/their needs and empathize with them and their deep/complex emotions. Animals, especially wild animals are so subtle in the way the communicate, and the more we humans learn about them the better we can understand them. And, ideally, live in harmony, respecting their territories and lifestyles (ie stop encroaching on their habitats and threatening their existence, and provide them with more alternatives when we do). One day in the future maybe we'll find the perfect balance that allows for humans and nature to coexist and thrive equally.. Hopefully, if it's not too late.

no the animal rescuers made sure that wasn't going to happen by treating them all like domestic pets. thats the difference between professional animal handlers and people doing it for their own benefit, you dont treat wild animals like pets if you expect them to be released. you dont treat dogs like pets if you expect them to work either.

Badgers are wild animals and should be respected as such. Only experienced rescue people should look after them and rehabilitate them. Thank you for rescuing those little darlings 😊
Yes, and they were not experienced they failed Billie the badger. They interacted with her way too much. At our rescue we never let the wild animals imprint on us. We always rotate people and do not have the same person feed the animal every day. We also wear masks. We bottle-feed wild animals with species-correct sock puppets or stuffed animals. We don't hold them like lap dogs or tease them to play with our hands. They failed a second badger as well. Badgers are not hard to release to the wild if you do it correctly. This rescue center should be shut down. Ridiculous to say thank you to them when they purposely fail the badges due to being overly attached to them and forgetting what their job is. This is a problem with many private rescues they are not professionals. They are overly emotional animal lovers who should not be working at a rescue. You have to be a strong person to work at a rescue. She is weak and lets logic go out the window.

Tbf, they said that where they are didn't have any other professional animal rescue sites and these guys just started taking in wild animals recently because no one else seemed to be in their community. Imo, shows that their local government was already failing their environment when a private rescue is all they have (and their local government has no excuse when other parts of Texas should have more professional wildlife rescue/rehab centers). I commend them for being the only ones to rescue them (even if their methods weren't the best) and to at least give their non-rehabilitative animals the best life they can have, but I think what should be done is if other wildlife professionals who are better trained at rehabilitation worked there and provided proper training - I doubt where they live even gave them access to proper training, to begin with.
Punishing people doesn't teach people anything, whereas giving people the tools to be better educated will help them better (especially if they live somewhere with government/leaders who should care but don't).

@idoj654123 It's funny. A wolverine would probably be the perfect guard for your house, because they are extremely territorial. And if you raise them, you will become part of the territory. Which means you are HIS and no one can touch you.

Ok, this is actually the most adorable thing I ever saw.
My husband's uncle runs an orphaned wildlife sanctuary, and one Badger when released...went as far as the maibox, and dug in.
That's as 'wild' as he wanted to get. Overall, pretty successful with saving and getting them ready for wild-living, but there's always those ones that form attachments and become part of the family.
....even if they live by the mailbox. lol
EXACTLY. Most do go back and some don't. They chose the same thing as the wild dogs did thousands of years ago that became domesticated.

The returnees, they're solidly dedicated to staying. lol ❤❤ Some returnees won't even go out in the 'Haven Yard' (Fenced to keep it a safe zone) unless one of us is out there as well. Such is life with animals.❤❤❤

Last badger I saw was one that chased me back to my vehicle.
Look up "service gator". There is a gator who is a licensed service animal. I believe almost any species can imprint on humans, given the people are loving and hopefully experienced at training. Bears, large cats, fish, spiders...... when a human is an animal's source of food, and social interaction is similar to a family unit(especially when animals are raised this way from youth), then I am always amazed at what animal can become tamed. When 2 animals that would normally be considered predator and prey come together with a commonallity, then they can build cross-species friendships. Just like people are drawn together by similar interest or life experience, so can animals build bonds. If an animal wants for nothing, then why does it need to become territorial or predatory? Thank you internet for allowing us to share adorable videos of these odd bonds.

My neighbor was walking a pet gray wolf at 2am, as me and my bestie were like:"yooo! Thats a wolf!". She went over and petted it as it began to leap an jump around in circles all happy. Wolves appear to have a hinged body when they run,as opposed to dogs. It was incredible to see one on our streets, because we never saw one outside of training or wilderness trips. I am in full agreeance with you that seeing someone walking a badger would definitely be a memorable moment for sure.

There’s a viral video on RUclips of a coyote headed into a tunnel but first waiting for his friend, who arrives and the coyote jumps w/ excitement when he sees who it is. It’s a BADGER! And they’re both 100% wild. It’s only a couple of minutes long but the final shot is of them both merrily strolling into the tunnel together. ♥️

Billie's a good girl and she likes to be frisky.. She'll be happy for the rest of her life because she has people that love her.. I lost my kitty on August 13th 2024 she was the Apple of my Eye.. I love animals so much, it's been VERY difficult for me.. But to see Billie happy makes me happy and takes some of the extreme hurt away from me....❤

BBC has a special on badgers and one in particular named Stoffel was afraid of nothing. On one of his many escapes he marched right into the lion enclosure and attempted to whip a lion's ass, they nearly killed him but fear of death does not exist in that animal.

Well it’s been domesticated and reared in captivity, British badgers in particular are usually shy and docile and will not attack unless cornered and provoked
Wild American badgers are really mean, the lady said it herself, they chase off grizzly bears, they’re not to be trifled with.
@@Krosstic it's a key difference. In the UK badgers basically have no natural predators so while they have the potential for extreme violence, it is not their go to response.

And the British badgers aren't as aggressive either. I follow a family on Facebook in Britain that has a family of badgers that visits them to eat. They almost can eat out of her hand that's how close they'll get. They even have little tour groups that come over to watch them through the glass patio doors. They're amazing to watch.

Its funny how wild animals can show us things we have never known
When I was a kid on the farm, there was a badger den in one of our fields. We plowed/planted around it. We left it alone. There were basically two things I, as instructed, I Did. Not. Do. I did not play with my dad's firearms. I did not go near that badger den.

I live in the UK where there are very few dangerous animals but as a child I was always told not to mess around with badgers. I never got the opportunity to do so as they are quite shy and you rarely get close enough to poke one here although they are a common enough sight.

@@kylegumbert6816 ehh idunno about most small reptiles. They have like one braincell, and when it bounces around and makes contact with the skull, they think of food. Thats about it.
There needs to be a certain level of intelligence to override the aggression. Certain species--particularly certain reptiles, fish, and amphibians, are just destined to be aggressive.

I think all animals down to ants are way more intelligent then we give them credit for. When you see animals as individuals a whole new world of interaction opens up. They are unique and have preferences like we do and it just takes meeting the right one. My sincerest thank you for being a good steward for these precious gifts.

actually, American badgers and coyotes frequently team up to increase their hunting successes. If the prey, say a rabbit or a groundhog, goes underground, the badger gets it. if it books it above ground, it becomes the coyote's prey.

This badger 🦡 couldn't have landed in a better place!! It's a miracle Billie's done so well and she's opened my eyes to the world of honey Badgers and the fact they can be loveable and sweet. Not to mention funny 🤣 as can be! What a beautiful story. I love this wildlife Lady. She's a doll.

The moment I saw that coyote I got really really excited. Coyotes and badgers hunting together is one of the coolest, most unexpected wildlife relationships I've ever learned about and I kind of hoped the two of them would pair up.

There are ways to achieve that goal incrementally that aren't dependant on a big bag of money. You would just need to take the first steps...

Yeah, I don’t think people understand how difficult it would be to teach a badger orphaned that young to be a badger and have it survive. The lady did her best with the resources she had. Badgers are seclusive animals and not much is known on how to raise a badger. At the end of the day, just be glad that the badger is alive and living a very good life.

These are the animal lovers who think that watching videos on youtube makes them an expert. This woman has probably had to sacrifice so much in her life to take care of these animals. I applaud her! She is amazing and doesn't deserve the negativity from the know-it-alls.

Interestingly enough, coyote and badgers are popular for their symbiotic relationships -- hunting, living in the same burrow, etc.

She’s a great Ambassador animal to show badgers in a very positive light rather than ruthless killers. On the other hand, the fact that you ended up domesticating two of them might be reason to modify your rehab methods before you end up with a farm of “wild” animals. Much respect though for caring enough to take on such an arduous time, energy and learning task of helping your local wildlife.
It’s weird how back in the day domestication was hard but now u put them in rehab and it’s like “oh no it likes humans!”
Domiestication =/= as taming. Domesticating an animals takes selective breeding and usually hundreds of years of it. Taming an animal is what happened with the badger, here. It's still a wild animal, though. A cat or a dog is not a wild animal, but they can be feral.
THESE PEOPLE MADE THESE BADGERS UNABLE TO GO BACK INTO THE WILD! IF THEIR TRUE INTENT WAS TO TURN THEM LOOSE ONE DAY, THEY WOULDN'T HAVE HELD AND PETTED THE ANIMALS, BABYTALKED THEM, ETC....THESE ARE WILD ANIMALS, AND ONE OF THE MOST DANGEROUS. JUST LIKE THEY SAID IN THE VIDEO, THEY WILL RUN A GROWN BEAR OFF. THIS VIDEO IS SENDING THE WRONG MESSAGE. SOME ANIMALS ARE JUST ABSOLUTELY NOT MEANT TO BE KEPT BY HUMANS.
