Thank you so much for all this information. Yes, at 83, I’m one of those people that never read manuel’s, and then when I get stuck, I don’t know where to turn to. I purchased my Sennheiser 100’s when they first came out. I’ve already replaced the antennas twice, so you know the wear I’ve put into them. Since I don’t do events anymore, only professional interviews, I didn’t realize the my frequencies (650Mhz) are no longer legal even though they still work just fine. Thank God I’m NOT doing productions anymore. Thank you again for your fine tutorial, especially the use of Banks & Channels.
i just wanted to let you know that i've been having serious issues with this mic for months now and after watching this simple tutorial i am once again in love! THANKS THANKS THANKS!!!!
What are we? Nine years on? I hadn't used my kit for a while, and needed a refresher, and your guide is so simple and straightforward, and my settings were most definitely not optimum, so I'll add my thanks to the long list of other people who found this useful. Something occurred to me while watching this... There was a stage at the event I was filming today, and I got some footage of the one of the bands. The sun was on me, so the sound guys invited me into their shade tent, and I didn't think to ask if they were using wireless. I think probably not, but I did get some interference, which is why I am watching this...
The advice is good. Out of the box the mic itself was clipping. We had to reduce the sensitivity on the transmitter to -30 after testing the defaults with two different talent. In the end -30 resulted in clean sound with no clipping. NOTE: it was not clipping at the camera, it was clipping in the units themselves.
Thanks for this video, made it simple and easy to set up the units on my camera. The levels were spot on and adjusting the balance helped eliminate any clipping in the environment I was shooting. Appreciate the effort
Thanks so much. I was at a live event with a pair of these mics. One was working properly and the other sounded slightly distorted. After watching your video, I was able to quickly make adjustments for perfect sound...just in the nick of time.
Thanks for this video! One thing sort of left out is Pilot has to be on for both receiver and transmitter in order to work. Easy to figure out, but someone might not think of it.
Awesome - enormous help, wish I'd found this 3hrs ago - now I feel much better about filming my interview tomorrow. So much better than all those other videos with guys trying way too hard to be funny - when this is a serious topic, painful! Thanks again, sure i'll use this in future - locked into my bookmarks. cheers
Good tutorial. I've being using them for over 7 years now. I prefer flow between -30 to -20, due to G2 super easy way of distortion on an input stage i.e. on Transmitter side, if person would yell at -20 it'll clip the hell out of the transmitter i/p. And thus will clip the output. It's about balancing the i/p gain and o/p gain of the receiver to get good strong level, and then adjust it more finite on the i/p of the recorder or camera. I find this work the best.
I had the same issue. Very easy, you plug the receiver to the camcorder and the mike to the transmitter. If you plug the transmitter to the camcorder you get that static noise.
Amazing that this was posted in 2006, standard definition video, only a year after youtube started...and these Sennheisers are still amazing. How many tech products have that kind of staying power on the market?
Good tutorial. Its needed. I have two 8 unit systems. MKE 2 ME 2 great mics . Great range on the transmitter. The weakest part of the entire system is the CHEAP 3.5mm plug on the end of the lavalier. It turns the entire system into junk. New plugs are about 9 bucks each. If yours haven't quit yet , they will. Nothing like having a theater full of people paying 30 dollars a seat and having a chep plug ruin the job. I have used Sennheiser gear for the last 35 years This is unlike Sennheiser
Really good video. Thanks for taking the time to put it up for me and everyone else. It's always nice to find videos and information that help us solve problems.
Now THIS is an instructional video. Nicely "dumbed" down, but no steps taken for granted. Well done! many of these instruction videos remind me of Steve Martin's bit, You can have a million dollars and never pay taxes. Step 1: Get a million dollars OK, ready for step 2?
Great video! I have this system, and it works great once you tweak it. Why the defaults are so hot I will never know. With suitable adaptors, it works great as a wireless audio feed from a mixer.
Great info guys, I was wondering why the levels were so high right out of the box. I wonder how many people have screwed up an entire scene without figuring that out first.
Very much agree that there is perhaps nothing better the g2/g3 under a grand. I'd also advise to buy a different wires instead of G2 standard wires, I find them quite hissy. I use Sanken COS-11D.
Thanks for your comment! The CL1 cable is an 1/8" miniplug to 1/8" miniplug for connecting the Receiver to consumer cameras that do not have an XLR input. Most consumer cameras only have a miniplug input. So it's an extra cable in your case. Hope this helps!
You might want to look at getting a BeachTek or JuicedLink XLR audio adapter for two inputs. You'll need a receiver for each transmitter. It is a 1:1 ratio unless you look at something like the Big Ole Audio Technical 1800 dual channel.
great tutorial thanks! agree with some of the other commenters that say +10 years on how great this still is. do you also have a tutorial on setting up 2 sennheiser EW100 G2 systems and avoiding intermodulation?
Use a separate recorder such as an Edirol R-44. Or get the Sennheiser Wireless and a 1/4" to 1/8" cable to send a LINE level signal right into the SK100 wireless body pack transmitter from the mixer.
great tutorial - i still have this model surprisingly enough and it's been working great. question, why did you suggest putting the mic at mid level and not closer to the collar area? in the past i had problems with the sound being too base and picking up the chest vibrations? Thank you again for the tutorial, well done!
@Stjamesinthehills The G2 units only autoscan the BANK that you are currently in. Try switching to another BANK. There are 8 to choose from. Hope this helps.
Great video. My mic plug has somehow bent, but still works. I will buy a replacement - any suggestions? is a sennheiser mic best, or another brand? Thanks AB
Is the bodypack transmitter turned off? Is Pilot tone off? Are the units a few feet away from each other? Did you perform an Autoscan? Also try testing with a second XLR mic and fresh batteries.
What's the benefit of using the coupon code? A discount or something? I'm interested in buying the G2 kit too. I really need a hot shoe extension though, cause my cam/rods are out of space :D Nice video, thanks.
Thanks for a great video. I was wondering whether it is posible to manually dial in a frequency that is already being used i.e. a Priests wireless frequency for his wireless mic during a wedding ceremony. This would mean that I wouldn't have to add a second lav mic onto them for my audio and could simply pick up their audio via my receiver?
Do you know the difference between the G3 and the G2? I have the G2 and it hasn't been working very well. I'll try to reset and maybe adjust the squelch... Thanks for the video.
even after 17 yrs your content was very precious for me! thank You so much!
Still useful 16 years later. I had to get out our old G2 mic transceiver/receiver packs, and this saved me a ton of extra time.
Glad to help!
I hope you still look young as this bro thanks in a million I got a g2 and this helpt me a lot
Awesome. Thanks for the comment. Glad to to hear that it helped
So glad this was on here! Couldn't figure out how to turn the gain down...you guys went over it and now i'm set! THANK YOU!

Still the best tutorial on the EW100, stands the test of time.
i just wanted to let you know that i've been having serious issues with this mic for months now and after watching this simple tutorial i am once again in love!
THANKS THANKS THANKS!!!!
I've been using this G-2 setup for years, and it rocks!
What are we? Nine years on? Trevor;
Did you figure out what the interference was due to?
I too, do stage productions, and audio interference would be a real problem.
Thanks a lot. I have had one for 2 years now, and always thought you had to use an XLR to adjust the sound. This has been a big help
Thanks for this video, made it simple and easy to set up the units on my camera. The levels were spot on and adjusting the balance helped eliminate any clipping in the environment I was shooting.
Appreciate the effort
Wow. Great tutorial. I wish Sennheiser had just included all this information in documentation with the unit. You are a life saver. Thanks.
Thanks so much. I was at a live event with a pair of these mics. One was working properly and the other sounded slightly distorted. After watching your video, I was able to quickly make adjustments for perfect sound...just in the nick of time.
I just got mine out of the box, and setting it up was a breeze with this tutorial. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for this video! One thing sort of left out is Pilot has to be on for both receiver and transmitter in order to work. Easy to figure out, but someone might not think of it.

Thank you for the tut! I've had the EW100 G2's FOREVER and never really did go through a full feature review. Thanks!

Agreed. Great product... nice that something in the video production world isn't changing so quickly. And great video, well explained.
Good tutorial. Its needed. I have two 8 unit systems. MKE 2 ME 2 great mics . Great range on the transmitter. The weakest part of the entire system is the CHEAP 3.5mm plug on the end of the lavalier. I am late to the party. Just got my first set of G2's. This video was golden. Kid you are a natural and I like your stuff.
Do you know how many times i've watched this, i'm back here almost every few months!

As allways - educational, professional and awsome! I'm a customer and expect me to be so for a loooong time.
Great explanation. I just ordered mine. It should be here in a few days. I feel like I already know how to use it properly. Thanks!
Very useful info, saved me a ton of reading - many thanks.
Probably one of the most useful videos I've watched.
Thanks for the help.. i had the both transmitters on
Why the mic doesn't come with a setup video like this is beyond me. Good work!
Really good video. Thanks for taking the time to put it up for me and everyone else. It's always nice to find videos and information that help us solve problems.
That was great advice; especially the balance offset! Thanks!
Thank you. I'm glad that you the enjoyed the video. It is a fantastic system. Cheers!
Still useful in 2020!

Wow thanks I have had these units for years and never knew all this stuff! :)

What AF would you recommend for a Mackie Mixer?
Don't forget to add a WindCutter to your wireless recording kit.
Hi, how to set sensitivity on both devices if I use the device for singing?
Thanks, that was great help for me :)
donde puedo conseguir tutoriales en español como este?
Dude, great tut. and tips!!
Do you know the difference between the G3 and the G2? I have the G2 and it hasn't been working very well. I'll try to reset and maybe adjust the squelch... Thanks for the video.
How to unmute the receiver please?
If the pilot tone is on the receiver will automatically mute when it doesn't receive the microphone...
Great video, thank you!!
