Siren Information:
This siren, labelled as Siren F by Mrmattandmrchay, is adjacent to the railway station in Carstairs Junction. It is a Secomak CS8, and is faulty - the power cable to the high-tone shutter's solenoid has been forcibly removed (possibly stolen by metal thieves), rendering that shutter 'jammed shut', while the low-tone shutter has a mechanical fault and is 'jammed open'. Sound-wise, this is basically a GP6.
Trip/Video Information:
This is only the second time I've been on a trip to a siren network and actually managed to record the siren I wanted to. Being both a rail and siren enthusiast, I wanted to answer a mental question: what if you were watching trains on Carstairs station at 1pm on the third Thursday? Unfortunately, no trains were around to properly show what happens (as a tree felled by the extreme winds of Storm Dudley had knocked out the 25kV overhead cables at Beattock - forcing the West Coast Mainline to close), but regardless I decided to film the siren test from the station as something of an experiment.
It turns out, if you listen carefully from the station, Ravenstruther's GP12 is also (just about) audible, even though there's a CS8 basically right next to you.
I also wanted to see if the hospital siren is actually visible - it wasn't from the angles we tried, leading me to believe that, as per the siren in Woodbeck (on-site at Rampton Hospital), the siren on-site at The State Hospital is most likely mounted on the side of a building and facing inwards.
As with my Ravenstruther and Braehead videos, this video uses footage and audio from a tripod-mounted Sony FDR-AX33. However, there is no second angle/walkabout footage on this occasion, as I had to stay on the platform to ensure Storm Dudley didn't claim the camcorder. As per the Braehead video, this video was edited in iMovie.

Sooo Excited!
This Air Ride siren sounds exactly like old one we have in Poland. Very Simillar sound.
Amazing Test! I recorded this a week ago and it's on my YT. It makes the ground and your chest vibrate 😬
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Ravenstruther does that like no other to be honest!
@@al66class59 I know 🤣, I've filmed that too but yeah you got a great video!
@@al66class59 I filmed Ravenstruther a while ago, I actually did felt a vibration as it was on full power, it actually felt nice when it vibrated my whole chest, in a good way, -not the other way-
Nice Video!
Thank you for watching - glad you enjoyed!
Great video!!!
Thanks!
I wonder how two shutters became jammed
It’s 1980s-era so not exactly brand new. It still functions to the degree it needs to so suppose hospital haven’t bothered.
I am aware that 6 of these sirens are part of the second generation of Klaxon's Coded-shutters series built from the 1960s to the 1990s when they were replaced by the third generation.
@@Vigilance108 admittedly jokes like that don't come across as obviously in text format, at least not for me, but okie
When can we see the klaxon ss6 again
Once I've found enough time to finish painting it (which is proving far trickier than I'd hoped due to the shape) and been able to reassemble it without said paint obstructing the rotor. Can't keep the layer thin enough!
La vidéo date du 17 février ?
Quelle est les choses qui sort de la sirène au moment du démarrage 0:27 ?
C’est l’eau.

Je pensais que c'était de la neige.
De plus, où est le son du hacheur à port supérieur ?@@al66class59
Was this recorded in the train station?
Indeed it was!
At least they fix one of the shutters
They're the same as they have been for some time; one is jammed open and the other jammed shut. This is also the case in the Mrmattandmrchay video from 2019.
I'd love for them to properly fix it, but as far as they're concerned at the hospital, so long as it makes a noise it is good enough
@@al66class59 but I heard a big click sound 0:27
As did I, but it definitely sounds as if the shutters still don’t work. The click, I would guess, is either the contactor *trying* to open the shutter and failing, or something to do with the water that it threw out.
@@al66class59 could even be the solenoid activating but its no longer mechanically connected to the shutter?
@@rpg3049 Could be, though I am not sure how it'd become disconnected as it's a compact mechanism. Definitely could be a relay of some sort though
imagine owning a CS8
Would be interesting, to say the least.
Yeah but too bad the ended production in 2004
@@VonnaWasser they actually ceased production of the CS series and the GP8/FP8 in 2005
