Converting Hardwired Dishwasher to Outlet to Plug In

- Have you upgraded your old dishwasher an now you have to convert your hardwired dishwasher to a electrical outlet to plug it in.
Thank you very much. this is a great tutorial and I'm sure I'll get the job fairly easily now!!!
I recently did similar at our house, but installed a GFCI in the adjacent cabinet, which I think is current code. And for anyone watching, patch the holes in the drywall. If a "critter" gets in the wall, it's a point of entry into the house.
Im a first year electrician for resi and commercial I fucken love this trade bro changed my life Fr. I used to work boring 9-5 till I found this that kept me on my toes and allowed me to create and use my brain to install equipment neatly and up to code I love it. Nice work!
The only thing I would’ve done differently is laid a tarp just to keep from scratching the floor and a cordless vaccum on hand for these small installs.
good content.. just keep those loops clockwise brother. 👍
Love those little outlet replacement jobs ... Thx for sharing ...
NOT CODE. Needs to be in an adjacent cabinet, period
Does the Romex run need to NOT be behind the DW also, i.e. do you need to move the Romex penetration into the adjacent cabinet also to keep the Romex entirely out of the DW cavity? Or can you keep the existing penetration and just move the termination to the adjacent cabinet?
Yup. As I understand it, the receptacle needs to be in the adjacent cabinet. So, you need to cut that box into the wall under the sink or SURFACE mounted in that space. Then, you need to cut or holesaw a hole in the cabinet to feed the plug through.
The funny thing is, that IS NOT REQUIRED for a range receptacle. WTF?
Super Helpful! I just got a dishswasher with a plug and have exposed wires in the space so I'll need to do this asap. great tutorial!
Hi...great video...I noticed only your hot was tightened clockwise...I guess you didn't noticed it.
Thank you! Made this look easy, now I can put a dishwasher for my upcoming Airbnb. 😎😎😎. Thank you. Much love ❤️
Great video. Very clear and easy to follow.
Keep up the good work.
Great video very detailed and easy to follow. Keep up the great work
Nice job taking the ears off the outlet. So many people forget that part.
It’s a great morning when you can start your day off with an E-TEAM video. Let’s go!
What team you got for the Super Bowl?
awesome videos this week brother
Thank you
Thanks for the video!
Wouldve been helpful if you showed us the wiring process closer and slower so we noobs understand
I recommend never beck stabbing any outlet. That sets it up for failure down the road.
Wow you make that look so easy. I just installed a new garbage disposal it came with a plug my other garbage disposal let's hardwire now I'm trying to put a new outlet. But for some reason when I turn on the switch its not working. I know my switch is getting power because it's lit up?
I had 1 white wire and 1 black plus the copper wire.
What did I do wrong?
Hi, good video. Want to ask you any good recommendations to get electrical license/cert. places (possibly even online?) and how long it took? I am thinking of getting certified. Thanks im on texas
What is the brand of that bag? Looks very handy!
Veto Bag
Square D came out with a new line of outlets and switches called the “X series” the text on the back says #14 wire only but the #12 fits right into the backstab holes no joke. I think it’s a manufacturing defect but home builders love it because you can break the rules and use #12 wire with backstab lol 😂.
I didnt know that., Thank you
👍🏽
Hey Ima highschool student trying to get into being an electrician, can u be a industrial, residential and commercial electrician all at the same time?
Macolm its highly unlikey to be able to do all 3 a the same time. Not saying you cant, but most companies only do one of them.
Does this have to be GFCI?? Plug or Hardwired what needs to be GFCI...
We got a dishwasher for the old one was not working for several years. Home depot paid for installation they couldn’t install it. They said we needed a master plumber. Master plumber came out and said we needed a master Electrician. For the old one has house wires and garbage disposal without outlets they just ran the wire through for the old dishwasher was acting a a circuit. Home depot problems with getting money back. Plumber charged to come out. Electrician charges a come out fee. Now broke from paying and still dishwasher in kitchen. Looking for someone who can run wire and dishwasher on youtube.
Is it ok to put the plug behind the dishwasher???
NOPE. Do not do this, it will fail any inspection
So mine doesn't have the ground wire
Behind dishwasher is a code violation also needs arcfault GFCI protection
what city you talking about
NEC 2017 violation. Please don't perpetuate content like this.
Please explain. I'm still learning and want to avoid code violations.

So it's seems like a 15 amp duplex receptacle when you said it's 12 gauge on a 20 amp breaker idk fs but that sure seems like a 15 amp outlet why not a single use 20 amp outlet.
It is a 20a outlet.
@@unitedtradesmanacademy1894 fair enough I'm not the guy that bought it so just really looked like a 15 amp one usuay I see the 20 amp receptacles with with the one horizontal dash on the neutral side and didn't see it on this one. Keep up the good work sir 👍
@@unitedtradesmanacademy1894NO, it's NOT a 20-amp receptacle! You're 💯 wrong!
It's a 15 amp receptacle connected to 14/2 romex.
@@jsb7546NO, it's NOT a 20-amp receptacle! He's 💯 wrong!
It's a 15 amp receptacle connected to 14/2 romex.
20 amp outlets have a "T-prong", while 15 amps outlets don't!
How can you screw this down into nothing but sheetrock? That isn't secure??
Research old work electrical box
What if the dishwasher leaks and your screwed lol
This will fail inspection. In an adjacent accessible cabinet through a dedicated grommet-ed hole.
Dishwasher outlet lust be adjacent too
Arcfault gfci is Boston
NEC Violation.
Why?
@Sam Andrew Receptacles for built in dishwashers will be located in space adjacent to the space occupied by the dishwasher.
422.16 (B)(2)(5) 2020 NEC
@@simplewick350 so what would the correct setup look like, and is this done so the dishwasher can be plugged and unplugged without removing it? Thanks.
@Sam Andrew Typically if the dishwasher is adjacent to a sink then the receptacle is installed in the under sink cabinet. Then you drill a hole towards the back of the cabinet into the bay designated for your dishwaher and route your cord and water line through that.
As to why it's not allowed, I'm not totally sure but it might be something to do with accessibility to the outlet or like you said, to be able to plug and unplug it.
@@simplewick350 I appreciate the info. One more question, is it still allowed to hardwire the electrical connections exactly as before, with the power cable running into the dishwasher cabinet and the wiring compartment located at the bottom front of the floor plate?
Not a good install. Need GFCI outlet and can't have outlet behind dishwasher.
