I didn’t notice much difference, they both look the same on FOV as far as I can tell, the image is clearer on the Rift S which is the main noticeable difference in the screen
Good job 👍🏻 hope you like it, I was literally just using my explorer for a few hours, still a good headset, just wish the screen was as good as the Rift S, I probably wouldn’t have upgraded, I enjoy wearing the explorer more
I just got one from eBay as well with 4 Controllers (2x Lenovo Explorer, 2x Samsung Odyssey), extra padding, and a Head Stand to place it on for $244 I'm super excited to use it on my Asus FX505-DT Laptop I got a while back it has a 2.0 HDMI, and 3.1 USB ports, so I should get the best possible experience. I already bought Beat Saber, and I'm shopping for other games as well.
9:57 Well Rift s n-as a feature calls vision guard or something like that and when the sensors detect you are out or close to the border you set it will show you.
I like to use the explorer for comfort but then when I see the image quality compared to my rift s I go back, haha, unless it’s hot and then I’ll stick with the explorer
I've had the Explorer for 2 years now and am happy with it, rarely ever had problems with it. I just wish the optics were bigger, it feels like looking through binoculars and bigger optics would give a bigger field of view. I had looked at the Pimax 5K+ but it's hardly accessible in Canada so the Rift S is the next best thing to look at (not paying $1400 for a Valve Index). I hear good things, but the problem is I don't have any available displayports since I use triple monitors for simracing and I have heard from other users that a HDMI>DP adapter has caused problems with the headset.
Yeah, i had a similar issue, my graphics card has 3 display ports and 1 hdmi, my monitors i would like to have all of them hooked up via DisplayPort however because I’m mainly using the rift s now i had to switch 1 of my monitors to hdmi to give 1 DisplayPort to the rift s
I paid £175 for an explorer in 2019 and still use it now. The hinge seems to have recently stopped holding the headset up and theres a few screen burns ( wife was cleaning the room where my computer is she knocked the headset off the desk she picked it up a placed it with the lenses facing the window, it was a sunny day)
Just a note, 99% of DisplayPort to hdmi adapters won’t output 90hz. At least with dp 1.2 anyway. I looked for over a year and tried every single active converter I could find on Amazon and none of them worked despite DisplayPort 1.2 having more than adequate bandwidth for 2880x1440@90hz
I had my explorer for 5 years; great devise, but i will splash out on a rift 2nd hand, thanks for the informative video. You are so right that the explorer is the best option to try if you´re gonna like VR at all.
Depends which vive it was, Lenovo explorer has better resolution than the original vive however if it was a vive pro I would say the vive pro would be a better experience overall compared to the explorer but you can still get immersed in the game much like a vive
A serious question: If the lenovo is 30% cheaper, is it worth? (budget kind of tight here). Also, I have both ports (HDMI and DP). My goal is not exactly games but using for mixed reality tinkering. BTW, I have a big head. Another question: how the cameras compare in quality? My goal is do AR with PCBs (circuit boards) so I would need to have good camera quality. Thanks!
I can tell you what the Explorer VR headset is on par with an Oculus Rift s. I was in Microcenter asking the sales associates opinion he sat there and compared and contrasted both the S and the Explorer. And I was prepared to buy the rift s he said the differences were negligible keep what you got in the Explorer especially since I only paid $150 for it basically brand-new one Facebook Marketplace
I have lenovo for long time enough, after watching ur video i think its not the time yet for upgrade. I'll wait for oculus quest "2" with 130° fov i guess :)
The Oculus rift is better than Lenovo Explorer. It is way smoother, nicer, and comfortable. But, if you want a cheaper option that is affordable, the Lenovo explorer is the way to go.
Thanks for the review. I was toying with either the Rift S or Explorer. Going with the Rift just because of better tracking. Also, you may know. My GPU has HDMI and Displayport. I am guessing I can still use the headset and my TV as normal?
The rift S will take up a displayport so if you don’t have another DisplayPort free you’ll have to change your monitor to hdmi. Having both plugged in they will work simultaneously
@@JasonStorm Got plenty of display ports on my card so that won't be a problem. The problem I would have if I bought the Explorer it would then mean I would have to get a DP to HDMI cable or adaptor to then use the headsets as my TV is connected to my PC.
I can’t really notice the difference between my 90 hz Explorer and 80 hz Rift S, tracking is better on the rift S compared to the Explorer but not as good as Vive with external base stations
Thanks for the vid, been looking for a comparison like this as I picked up an original HP headset (which is pretty much the same as the lenovo) just before Christmas and I have become hooked on VR. I wanted to see if buying a more recent headset would be worth it. Your insights really helped and I think I will probably get the rift S!
I actually bought the rift S thinking it wasn’t going to be worth it that much but I am actually pleased with my purchase, I did encounter many software issues initially however I have worked them out and all good now, I have the rift s and the explorer side by side and I pick the rift s every time now
That sucks.. I got mine NEW for $380 Austrailian since I am got mine in the USA... and with my Bestbuy Points that I got for buying my RTX Laptop and stream deck, and logitech pro g head set. total price is around $253 Austrailian... I feel bad for people in other countries especially Latino country s they up the price to much... :( and they take long to sell new stuff... least Austrailian is a little more cheaper than in latin countries..
I do think the vision is clearer with the oculus rift s and some of the writing that is fuzzy with the explorer that i struggle to read is easy to read with the rift s
Do you think it’s safe to order one with the whole corona virus thing going on I really want to have vr so I can pass my time having a little fun what’s your opinion
Thanks, game play comparison is difficult to try and show you, all I can do is explain, recording myself in a game in VR will look identical between the 2 headsets because it records off my computer screen, the only way for you to see what I see is stick a camera in the lens but then when I do that I then can’t play a game
I only have one HDMI port in my graphics card but its occupied by the monitor but for some reason my DVI D port is not working and I also bought a HDMI to Displayport converter and I keep getting an error and I haven't been able to try ANY VR game... really is frustrating... but it feels comfortable for sure.
Here's what I'd do. Get a DP to HDMI CABLE. connect your monitor with that cable so you have one free HDMI port. then, directly connect the VR headset.
thinkpads generally are business laptops which means theres not gonna be a vr ready gpu in it, it cant run any vr games even on low setting which you shouldnt do ever
Late reply, only answering for people with the same question or u if your still wondering. This laptop will not be able to run vr let alone most graphical games. Laptops unless purchased as a gaming laptop or it has vr ready on it usually wont be able to run games or vr.
I’m not sure, they don’t sell the controllers on their own as far as I’m aware, in saying that I’m pretty sure they don’t have to be Lenovo , as long as WMR they should still work
Yes but if you didn’t know that and you had to try on both and figure out which one has a higher resolution you would probably say the Rift S, it is clearer
@@JasonStorm a guy told me something like this "Bought a rift s today. Going back tomorrow. Didn’t enjoy it at all. Plus white flashes through the race. The Reverb is on another level. " we have the same headset
I haven’t experienced those issues, yes the reverb has a better resolution and is clearer then the rift S but is also more expensive (at least in this country) so it depends how much your willing to spend, I have heard some people complain about the reverb not being as secure on your head and you have to re adjust it during a race sometimes
@@JasonStorm I bought yesterday a reverb, die graphics are realy realy crazy, never saw anything like that, and for my head it fits perfect, but i think the FOV is kinda to small for my wishes, and with my luck i bought a fault one, having some disconnect issues, either they gonna shipp me a new one real quick or i go back to lenovo, maybe odyssey plus i dont know.
