Sorry I couldn't post a comment on the specific video, as comments were turned off. But I just wanted to thank you for posting the video about changing the lights on the Caddy DTS. Especially taking the time to explain about dropping the bumper. Very helpful!

Good job,but it's not the thermostat you changed, it is called a water/coolant control valve. The thermostat is on the front of the block, two bolts, real easy! What I will tell all you guy is change both every time because they work in unison!

@@guesswho2237 thermostats regulate temperature out of the block, coolant control valve regulates water flow into the block and yes they work on the same relative premise just like upper and lower radiator hoses.

Could b the thermostat or also could b you just have to burp the system and make sure there’s no air bubbles in the radiator that will also fix the heat problem

I thought the thermostat is located in the front and the side is the water control valve. They both look the same but two different jobs. That's just what I thought.

The second is located by the fire wall it’s 4 bolts to take that off . Then you disconnect the hose An 2 bolts to slip the second off an u got it from there I’d say a good 20 mins an then u are good to go

There are two. Shit my bolt is stripped in the lowest bolt on the housing. Such a pain in the dick. Otherwise pretty easy. Do a video showing how u replace the other thermostat near heat shield

I was worried I installed mine backwards (mine is installed like he did it in the video because that is how the old one was installed). After looking in the FSM (CO-25 on the 2006 Sentra SE-R manual if you want to look it up yourself. I have a 2006 Spec V, but its the same engine and setup.) and doing research including watching youtube videos to see how most people's were originally installed from the factory.... this guy did it right and the FSM illustration is incorrect. If you look at the water control valve housing it has a port in the back. That is the hot water outlet from the cylinder head thats running though the heat core, and of course out to the upper radiator hose (but that only matters when the lower thermostat is open). When the lower temp 177 deg - lower located thermostat opens water obviously flows through the housing out to the upper radiator hose outlet... what this means and what I am getting to is that hot coolant that is freshly exiting the head is flowing through the housing and over the "back" of the water control valve. Once the water control valve opens the coolant from the block enters the water control valve housing and mixes with the coolant from the head and off to the radiator or heater core. This is why they located the temp sender in the water control housing right next to the 'back' of the water control valve itself. Hot coolant is always circulating in that location and over the 'back' of the water control valve...even if both thermostats are closed. Sorry this is so long, but there is a lot of confusion about this on the internet and I haven't seen a good explanation, so after figuring this out I figured I would offer one. At the time I didn't understand all this and I just installed mine the way the old one came out because I knew it was never removed before I replaced it, but I am glad that I don't have to go back in there to flip it over because I did it wrong.

trssho91 so what is the right way? the spring side should go in the housing and the button side go into the block

This engine has TWO thermostats!! The top thermostat is called a water control valve. It's the one u showed on the end of the head You don't need the top thermostat. It is redundAnt and can cause engine damage. It can cause head gasket failure. It makes the head always quick to get hot while the block will remain cold. It was a poor design but meant to give u cabin heat quickly. Side effect was the difference between head and block temp caused head gasket failures. REMOVE IT AND THROW IT AWAY!!!! THEN!!! Change the lower front thermostat in the front of the block . Flush the heater core with garden hose to remove snot snakes. Then bleed air from the system. Heater only needs the thermostat in the block. Period
