Quest for the Wild Trout - Portaging into a Remote Native Trout Lake for Spring Fishing & Camping
Quest for the Wild Trout - Portage to Remote Native Trout Lake for Spring Ice-Out Fishing & Camping I shot this fishing adventure on a four-day canoe trip north of Massey, Ontario in Northern Ontario, Canada. I did the trip with @MySelfReliance @TheRealTedBaird and @nate_muskoka Check out their channels! Dogs Cali and North were along for the adventure too. We were heading into a remote lake that holds native Lake Trout and we battled strong winds and deep mud while completing several portages before getting there. What we found is a beautiful lake with many islands and rocky outcrops that we had all to ourselves...and we caught a lot of fish too. Thanks for watching! Let me know what your favourite part of this video is and don’t for get to subscribe to my channel if you haven’t already. Thanks a lot for your support.
Curious what's the brand of the ring knife you have I'm quite interested
Favourite parts were all the delicious fishes and the tip re gutting! Thanks Jim!
I like seeing how you cleaned the fish and than cooked them! Yum! 26:30
Appreciate seeing the different lure info and that butterfly fillet. Maybe you have one already but if not an instructional on that butterfly would be terrific.
Enjoyed all of it, as usual 💕
Found it. Too many clues :)
Lol
The struggles, pain, and physical hardship we are willing to endure to have the solitude and the rewards of having a place all to ourselves is so worth it. That is why I love watching your adventures because I can relate so much.
Absolutely and even the parts that are hard at the time become part of the overall fun
@@JimBairdAdventurer Definitely! All adds to memories.
Jim and Ted videos are the best outdoor videos on RUclips bar none. Thanks for taking us fishing. Thanks for showing how you clean and cook your fish. Very clear, concise how-to. I can't be sure but I think Teds' Laker was the biggest. Thanks again.
Awesome ❤
Thanks!
❤absolutely fantastic 👏 👌
Yeahhhhhh! awesome video so far. what a great trip this was
Two Beer and that's ready to go LOL
Adventure to troutsville thanks for taking us along
You’re welcome!
Jim your videos always makes us feel we're on the trip with you .whether it be on the canoe or in the back country .You definitely Know how to film and educate us with info of each area. This is what makes us feel we are right there with you. Also thanks for not cutting out the camp fire talk .Sitting around a camp fire with friends or family and sharing thoughts and stories well done Jim !!!! Teds videos are awsome also . Thanks YAAAAAA as you always say and Hudson
Thanks a lot for watching and for the great comment. I hear that from people who say they feel like they’re there. I’m not sure what it is I do to make that the case but maybe it’s the way I talk to the camera. Anyway, I’m glad it’s engaging to a few people so that’s great to hear. Yaaaaa
that was one of the best trips
Wicket video. Spend a lot of time in my mad river journey at the mud trout. Can’t wait for spring.
But did you run out of whiskey before you solved all the world's problems? I really love your videos, Jim. It's like I'm right there with you. Never lose that ambiance.
That was awesome video of your adventure thx sharing
You’re very welcome, thanks a lot for giving it a watch.
Lets go fishing JIMBO !!! SHAWN & OUR CALI YEAH!!! TED AND everyone else !!! BIGGER FISH FOR JIMBO !!!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed this one…it was a great trip.
This was great fun, my fav's are the stunning scenery, (as with yr brother's channel, excellent camera work,) the beauty of the fish and the friedship❣️
Much appreciated!!
I like the timing. Two beers and it’s ready to go!
Lol
I love the fish , but you are the first one I've seen make pancakes in the wild in a long long time and I don't know why . Ever time I go into the woods , I have pancakes and bacon at least one morning if not every morning . I always look forward to it.
Doesn't matter if I went through hell , the weather was horrible , or anything else , as long as I have my Bacon and pancakes in the morning , all will be good with the World . Oh and coffee .
Thank you , for being awesome , once again .
Thanks a lot, and ya, pancakes are the best out there. And if you have bacon too than that’s tough to beat!
Jim thank you for filming you getting stuck. The best thing you did was NOT panic. Always learn something new watching your videos. Just goes to show how quickly your circumstances can change. Glad you were able to get out of there WITH your shoes. 😉. PS….the fish a long the doggie in the face was pretty hilarious. 😂
cool . :)
This was absolutely well done!! Such a fun adventure to watch! My favorite part was the whole video! Thank you for sharing.
As I watch more and more of your vids I look more for your morning talks from your barrel!! Great vid and TY!!!
Very good video Jim!! Yummy fish 👍 One of my favorite parts was seeing your expertise when you butterflied 🦋 slewed the fish 🐟 leaving it without any bones. Yet, another of my favorite parts of this video was how you got out from that deep muddy hole which had the effect of quick sand. My best regards to you Jim, Cori, and the children!!
Thanks!
I love these kind of adventure heck yeah guys damn awesome
Thanks a lot bud!
Love the k9 cam. ☺
Thanks a lot, ya it ads a fun element for sure
57:44 when you released it she coughed up another fish. Awesome video!
Thanks! Ya, that was pretty cool to see. I don’t thing I saw that until I watched the footage.
Another great trip in the books, I agree.
Canada is very beautiful l love the cold weather awesome
I love fireball. What a brilliant.ithing to do.
Enjoyed the video keep it up and thanks for taking the time to share it
Wow! Good job on getting out of the mud 😂
Thanks!
SMART GUYS , THE WAY U COOK THE GREAT TROUT FISH IS TAKE OUT ALL THE GOOD THINGS FROM IT ..JUST THE TASTE LEFT .... CRAP COOKING .... THE REST IS AWESOME ...
So you eat the guts and consider them to be the best part? Good for you.
@@JimBairdAdventurer WHO EAT GUTS DUDE???
Great paddling and fishing video.....I liked the fish cleaning tip
Great trip brother nice fishing it's a success
Indeed, you always take a risk that it will be a flop when you do these things
This was super fun to watch.
❤❤❤
👍👍
Getting stuck , Hapitant soup. then trying to find the hint of a lake. I know i believe. All great stuff
It's a toss up for my favourite moment. "I did it" when you knew you wouldn't be digging out your shoe. That Shit eating grin on Ted's face when he netted the lunker.
Thanks for the hint as to the location. I was able to guess the lake based on where you put in at the start of the video, but it's nice to have confirmation that I guessed right.
Haha, nice man, I figure that if someone what’s to do the work to figure out where it is and do the work to get there than they deserve it. Having people care about the lake is a good thing.
@@JimBairdAdventurer I do this on your othet videos, too: I try to match the scenery with what I can see on Google Maps. It's a fun exercise. And I respect your reasons for not being overt about where you're voyaging.
Such a great adventure, love seeing the brotherhood of you guys all just getting out in. nature in our backyard ;o)
So happy to get another Baird video! Thanks Jim - you do a great job making your videos - I think some of the best outdoor ones on Utube! Can’t wait for the next adventure- 😀
Glad you and fellas enjoyed yourselves a bit
I love the Northcam use! Keep up the good work, Jim.
This made me happy!
I’m at home sick, and this makes me look forward to this spring here in Alaska. I can’t wait to have shore lunch.
Kick ass trip boyz.
Nice video on water
Thank you!
I could just taste that fish 😋
Finally found someone who has a messier tackle box than me!
Lol, guilty as charged
Man I've really enjoyed this video. I love how you collected footage from the other guys and included it in this cut.
Thanks a lot! Ya, I got a couple other shots of the other guys’ to try to tell more of the group’s story as opposed to just my own.
Opening the can with the knife hands down favorite part
Riveting scene
Just bit humor nothing more.Always enjoy it all
Ah, you lads were playing in my backyard, happy you enjoyed yourselves, another great video
Camping trip of a life time man,, fish wer killer and weather was pretty awsome, other than wind situation, great video!!!!!
Up to your .... In mud! Grew up in Massey area. Went to Elementary School there. Spent many times "Up the Tote Road" as we call it. Canoed the Sables River from just north of Bull Lake to just below Cameron Falls. Now that's 40- 45 years ago. Was great Speck fishing in the river at the time. Sure nice to have you visit the area.
Thanks a lot, o love the area. I’ve heard the spec fishing is still good on that stretch actually and we were talking about floating it next spring! Funny you should mention it.
Thanks!
Thank you!
Wonderful video, wonderful trip !
Jim, again an epic production of what it is to camp out in the wild. Kudos to your friends as well, catching the trout they did, and pushing hard against that wind. It was hard seeing you stuck in the mud, though. What cannot happen out there? Thank you again for a great time out to watch this episode.
Great video Jim and the fish makes me so hungry. Awesome! 👍👍👍🤩🤩🤩💯💯💯
Awesome with such a great variety of content, too! I wish I could now see Hudson hanging off the side of the couch watching this as you catch those fish ~ YEAHHHHH!
Thanks a lot! You mean this video specifically has a good variety of content? Or my channel? I suppose this vid does with the camping, portaging, paddling, fishing, cooking and me taking about the logging etc.
@@JimBairdAdventurer Yes, I did mean this video specifically. I saw it was an hour long, but I never once considered "skipping ahead a bit". It was a perfect mix of what you listed with great timing, comments, and film work. And that's also true for your channel as well.
Pretty sure that was your funniest video I've seen! M*eth til 5am cracked me up lol!
22:28 gold Cleo and gold retriever! Win win!
So freekin epic.
Amazing fishing 👍🏼
Great editing as always! Thanks Jim
Awesome guys fish everywhere nice job , Jim no moose steaks come on mate the boys showed you up, good trip hey the lakes look good , keep the videos coming boys cheers from Australia 🇦🇺 👍
like a boat you would find in the woods bud i think i got her right off that tune eh first thing that came to mind big Johnny
Very nice video. My buddy and I went to Bull lake quite a few years ago for 3 years in a row. An older chap Jerry owned the camp back then. He called himself a bush pig. LOL. We mainly hit some of the back lakes for speckles and the river a few times but mostly got smaller ones in the river. That little cabin over the lake at 2:39 on the left with the red roof is where we stayed.
Amazing! Thanks a lot for sharing. It’s a pretty awesome area
Tori will be happy, two nice lake throuts for dinner. Interesting with a lake area with quite dominant lake throut biosphere
Yahh!!! Great cinematography as always! Love the side comments!! Laker coughed up what looked to be a sucker minnow or young speckled @ 57.34. I don't think they were using that as bait? Thank you for sharing these amazing views of our world! Great trip, man!
Thanks a lot snd yes, that fish barfed up a minnow it’d already eaten. I don’t think I saw that until watching the footage.
My favourite part was…All of it! But I especially love the end of the day fish fry, drinks and a roaring fire. Thanks to all of you! Loved it!
Me too! Thanks a lot for tuning in and leaving a comment too. Glad you enjoyed it. Have a great evening.
Nice one!
When y'all laughed about the first night's festivities 🤣
Haha, I wasn’t going to out that in but my wife said to go for it
The fishing, Eating and riding on the back of North. Busy dog. Dont end up in folsom prison for catching to many fish. Good hint.
well done. thank you for taking us along. be safe and have a great time. GOD bless you and all of yours. Peace be with you.
You’re very welcome! I’m glad you enjoyed the video
wind really is the most punishing of the elements... good thing you are 3/4 sasquatch
Haha, thanks a lot
All around great Adventure with best Friends Forever ❤️👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Thanks! And yes, I agree. Have a great day.
I love the fish fries, every time the fish looks perfectly cooked. What a beautiful spot for a fishing trip.
Habitant pea soup......add fish, bacon, ham...... it is a fantastic base for anything and hits the spot.
Great video! Now I’m hungry haha
Jim’s fish anatomy lessons are always to the point…some might say even graphic, but we know its vintage Baird.
Geeeat video Jim...beside you guys catching the lakers...i yhink my favorite part was you slogging thru that muck hole haha..been there done that...its a helluva battle to get out shoes intact...but you persevered...good job👍😂
i like hearing the sandhills i lived in Mississippi for a while and some winter there and they taste good to
love it! what a crew! Canada really is the best country on earth, by far!!
I just spent the morning at Cabela’s walking around pretending I was planning a solo canoe trip! You guys are inspiring me!!
Always love you, Ted and the captain…..
Are you referring to when ted spilled out last bit of Rum when we were in Northern Manitoba or just when we were getting into Nate’s emergency wine on this trip?
Every part was my favorite. Thanks for the laughs too!
Nice man, glad a couple of the jokes landed. Thanks for watching .
My condolences to you and your family Joe. May he RIP.
I think you meant to comment this in Joe Robinet’s channel
@torigoesoutside taught you well when it comes to flipping the canoe on your back and portaging. 😂
She is the best
Folson Lake - my neck of the woods buddy I live in Massey and fish that lake a few times a winter. Nice Trout and I do have more spots for natural specs in the area :)
Sweet, ya it def seems like more of a place people go in winter. I dint like giving away the names and that on YT for good reason obviously though. Great area you live. Please let me know if you know of any water access property’s for sale around there.
@@JimBairdAdventurer will do buddy would you like me to remove my comment with the name in it I don’t mind - I was just super excited to see you fish a lake I love to go to, I have a shack very close in the bush there and there are actually three trails into that lake. Unfortunately not a ton comes up for sale up the road but will let you know, also if your ever wanted to do any natural river spec fishing that is prime area close by to where you where I would love to show you. Again great video Jim , locals call where Sean got that axe head “ garbage point” due to all the old logging stuff they left there.
@@JimBairdAdventurer I took Mr. Joe Robinet out along the river last summer with the atv and spec fishing I think he had a blast - love to see you in the algoma area buddy. Great Video.
Far behind on your content, but happy to see you're still at it.
Thanks a lot! You can check out this vid which is all the best of my adventures from last spring till the end of winter /23 ruclips.net/video/mrItwK7wcEQ/видео.html
I, Loved this Vid !!~ Thank-you, it brought back Memories of being home in the Yukon on Leave & Lake Trout fishing & me having to kiss a Trout, if I caught one !! Everyone had caught 1 or 2 that day, , but me, Nada, so said, if I finally catch a Trout , before we head for shore, I will kiss it !! ( Ah !! yes !! I, finally did the kiss!! A Promise Made is a Debt unpaid !!lol !! )~~ Thanks Jim, Tori, & Family for All your great Vids.. Keep Healthy & Safe.. Keep Enjoying Life & Sharing it with so many Others You are Appreciated !! :
Hard core as usual! Figured out the clue. Thanks
Hey Jim
Here’s an interesting connection between your canoe trip and eating some canned food!
I did a canoe trip with a couple of guys from the Australian SAS.
To cook a can in the fire they put a dent in the can, threw it on the coals and when the dent popped out it was done.
It’s was called “al dente” !
Haha, funny and that’s a great tip.
Boys the dogs sleep with the dogs man I sleep my dogs every time I camp ❤
Beast life your the shit
Thanks man 👍
God bless you and your family jim
I live in Espanola, you must have stopped at tim hortons when you drove through town, unless you are sean james and he would have made his own donuts from what he grew in his garden, or so he claims! He is a hoot to listen to what comes out of his mouth.
We did actually, what is your favourite quote of his?
@@JimBairdAdventurer "alone"...kinda sad!
Totally jealous... Loving it....
Yes sir ! Great trip boys ! That wind definitely reminds me of canoe tripping here in Newfoundland !
Very good fishing day 🔥☀️🌄🌠
Absolutely, thanks a lot for tuning in.
Gosh, Jim, when you were stuck in the mud, I was wondering if your buddies were ever going to notice you were missing🤦♀️😅
Haha, no one was around. Shawn and Nate took the upper portage route which is the typical route the ski-doos take
Looked like a fun trip. I have to say that I'm honoured to share a name with your beloved Dog, North! Although he handles himself much better in the great outdoors than I do.
Haha, that’s awesome. Great name. I figure you’re the type with direction (sorry). I got the name from a sled dog in the Yukon and I’d found out that my dog North was Biden when his namesake died.
Epic video thx for the cash song got it !
No prob, do me a favour and say hi at bull lake outfitters for me
