Why do I see these videos just before I am going to sleep? Early morning tomorrow and I still had to watch this!!! I will be tired tomorrow but it was so worth it!!! ❤😃 Thank you for posting this Jim!! 😊😊😊
I did watch this earlier in the month, but I was in hdmi mode and couldn't comment. This also was an epic video, and the dogs were also great content!!
Another great video Jim! Loved the nature with the Herons and such, and the fish were fantastic! I am older and have to live vicariously through you, particularly on the long portages. Glad to be able to do that. Nothing like some surf and turf, great beverages, the dogs, and a fire to enjoy time with friends and family. Great time! Thanks for the escape.
Hey Jim and Ted what a blessing to be able to have this much fun. Thanks l truly appreciate you sharing this awesome video and I love fishing. Hey Ted why didn’t you bring Bella to play with North and the other dogs 🐕? ✅✅✅👍👍👍👏👏👏🤩🤩🤩💯💯💯❤️❤️❤️
Just catching up aftrer a few weeks away. Loving these trips you get out and do. Nothing better than some brews, fish you caught on the fire, and some friends to make an outing.
Hey buddy. Thanks for sharing your great adventures. I was hooked once I saw you winter journeys through the Yukon territories. Thanks for that. Now I’m watching you videos in good weather. I’m learning a lot from you. You rock dude.
I had a big write up and lost it all, piss me off, look guys as always it was totally awesome, this one was real cool with the dogs playing and swimming, the catching of all the awesome fish and the amazing steak,Jim thanks for your amazing narrating and cool footage,I thanks all of you, your all seem like a friendly and likable bunch, I hope to see you all again get together and do it again, God bless you along with your families! Look if your not saved, make sure ya all do that so your souls will be in the right place Amen, THANKS AGAIN SO MUCH!
You’re welcome! I hate that wen you write something and then the freakin app deletes it. Anyways, glad you like med this and those steaks were great! 🥩🔥
Just came back from a long weekend at La Verendrye. A couple of years back we paddled Algonquin. For sure much longer portages. Good thing you can rent kevlar 😀
I loved North's inaugural swim...and the beer fridge....the fish cleaning...and the food! 👍🐾🇨🇦💦🔥🐟🥩🌲💜 Oh, and what's not to love about outdoor times with friends?
Lingcod in a lake? That is a new one for me. Lingcod are super delicious fish. Beauty trip. Island camping. Can't beat that. Good fishing, good buddies. Nice. And that time-lapse of the eclipse. Best of have seen so far of this eclipse. I was able to get some good photos of it, but that footage was really neat.
They are technically not related to cod apparently but they are called Ling Cod or Ling. Their official name is Burbot and they are in thousands of lake in Canada.
Nice area great fishing good times , Nice that North had two other dogs to play with loved seeing the British bull dog very cute , North seems to be getting comfy in the canoe real nice , I am sure that will come in handy on future adventures . beautiful camp spots as well eclipse was cool to see the perfect shot of it Love the video looked like you all had a wonderful fishing trip
Loved everything about this video as I have done the same trip multiple times with great fishing success! If I had to pick though my favorite would be your buddy smoking the cigar while cooking those brookies for sure…might’ve done that a few times myself😂
One of the nicest views of the eclipse that I saw anywhere(it was raining in Vermont that night), but I thought that shallow water sucker run was very cool..I had no idea they swam up such shallow streams..another great video
Enjoyed seeing Algonquin, the Lunar Eclipse, the Sucker Run, the Cranes, Trout fishing, cleaning, & cooking. North can swim now. I think the other Husky was a good influence & helped North be more confident. He's beautiful. I like how he finally relaxed & curled up in the canoe. Your canoe is beautiful. It almost looks like it's wood. So shiny. I'm glad you & Ted went fishing with your friends. I also enjoyed meeting them. Which meat was poison?
Thanks very much, the other Husky actually growled at north when he picked up a shoe months ago and north dropped it and never picked up a show again! Definitely a good influence. None of the meat was poison, it was just a joke you my friend said in the vid because we were eating so much meat, he said “can you get meat poisoning?”….glad you enjoyed the video and all the elements.
Thanks a lot and good tip. I’ve actually heard of that from a guy from Saskatchewan and we tried a similar strategy with the stomach strip off rock bass.
Great video as always Jim! I really enjoyed the great blue heron island viewing experience and a nice review of your new blade. Also enjoyed seeing Algonquin of course! Happy start of summer to all can't wait to get out there this year!
Did you end up getting a new food barrel or is that the same one that you had to field repair a while ago? It’s always amazing to see how machine like you and Ted are out in the wild. There is very little that cause you guys issue. It literally puts a person in awe of how capable humans can be in nature.
I paddled by you guys while you where at the island site. I remember the 3 red canoes. That lunar eclipse night was amazing on the lake that night from our little island site
Where did you learn all your nature facts, like the color of the water from spring head waters or all the facts about the woodpecker holes/squirrels/owls? Def love learning new things so thanks for all that!
In Algonquin the greenish headwater lakes is due to the ground water’s mineral content. I forget where I heard that. The thing with the mushrooms and the flying squirrels, I’d read how squirrels will lay mushrooms to dry on tree branches and I’d seen that before. One time in an old growth forest in Ontario’s Temagami Region I saw one cashed in a Pileated wood pecker’s hole. Later, when I was working as a prospector out of a group of cabins in northern Québec, there were some university students from McGill there researching the local forest and I spoke with their Prof. I showed him the picture of the mushroom in the Pileated wood pecker’s hole and he told me the rest.
How fast can a loaded 18ft canoe travel on still water? Those things seem amazing. I have never been in a canoe but these adventures make me want to try them out. Keep going!
Great video. It's always a pleasure seeing the Baird Brothers out on another adventure. I was in the Park on the same weekend and enjoyed an evening of thunderstorms followed by an amazing lunar eclipse. Just out of curiosity, what camera, lens and software did you use to take and process such a great moon timelapse? Were you using a star tracker? Thanks again.
Thats the area I cut my teeth in Algonquin starting in late 70' early 80's The smallmouth were introduced by cottagers on Round in the early 80's and have since moved down through the system and have really hit the brookies hard . My coach use to own Voyaguer Outfitters on round and we would go up early May to open you could catch specks right off the dock in good numbers. It was fun to see the area again. You had a pretty easy canoe back west on North Tea . Normally the wind is strong and you have to paddle right into it. That first little portage on the Amable is much easy to just walk your loaded canoe up and down it. Keep looking forward to more video. You should really look into a trip down the Sutton I know you really love to fish Brook trout and it is just insane 30 -50 fish days of 16-25 inches everyday you'll be sick of catching them by the time your down and I know you are comfortable in Polar Bear country
Absolutely terrible Simone did that. Also amazing how much can change in under 40 years. Glad you are familiar with the area. It’s still a gem and close to home for me. Do you remember there being Burbot in there? My cousin caught a big one.
Hi Jim, I have watched all your RUclips adventures, love them thank you. Ok , few questions, do you get sick of oatmeal every morning ? When you get off a long trek what food do you crave ?
I was into pen lake starting on the Sunday which was the day of the eclipse and it was 27 degrees. Crazy warm and while we did get a few trout i think the warm weather cut down on the bite. Great vid!
Which model of Werner double-blade paddle do you and Ted use with your canoes and what length? I have the Werner Skagit in the 240-260 cm but find that it doesn't 'grab' the water as much as I would like it to. Your paddles look like they have wider blades and pull better per stroke.
Hey Jim, another beauty Video!! I’m writing you from Cochrane Ontario. My buddy and I went down the floodwood to do some walleye fishing yesterday. Which we crushed by the way haha. I was just curious how far you went down the floodwood before you took that creek to portage to Ishaw lake? We were talking about that yesterday when we were there. Couldn’t believe that was your put in to go to Moosonee!
Jim good times with the boys, excellent! I believe I saw a "Grayl" water filter in a couple scenes and was wondering how you like the filter. I purchased one for our 2021 BWCA trip and as a stand alone dip and filter your water it worked extremely well. With a couple of nalgene bottles I could filter 80 oz in a short time (10 - 15 mins) for the paddle to the next portage. I get big time muscle cramps so need lot of water/propel mixed for the work. Anyhow, what is your opinion of the Grayl water filter? Love mine. Charlie
