That 500 kg is in a far, far land right now. Some people seemed to think the altitude was a problem for everyone, but some of these guys made personal best lifts.
This just show that every athlete that come to Bogotá was in a very sharp form, the effect of the altitude here is ridiculous, even for Colombian athletes that live in other places of the country.
And something else to consider is how aggresive climate in Bogotá is. During the competition we have in the mornings 5 C degrees, at midday 22 Celcius, and at nights something around 7 degrees with hard rain. Getting sick was also a problem for some athletes that underperformed or don't even compete like shi zhiyong.
Ιf you see the list of the athlets who will participate in 16 September 2023 then you realize we will talking about dream-team of weight lifting ! The first attempt of the contest will be 200 Kg. I hope Gor Minasyan lift 220 in arace and 252 in epole zete and whatever will be!
I love watching Lasha lift. I have always wondered why or how his large gut helps, or more specific why it does not hurt him? I get the mass in strong man but does his large gut not impede the bar travel?
Good question, I was wondering about this myself. I'm no expert on this, but I would say yes, it COULD impede the bar travel if he had not adjusted his lifting style: If you watch some of the slomo-vids of him snatching (ruclips.net/video/nrgnH9fTfGo/видео.html for example), you can see that he a) at the end of the 2nd pull extends at the hips (=moves his torso backwards) quite strong, b) jumps slightly back in the 3rd pull and c) the bar path makes a slight curve around his belly.
I'm hoping to get a recap video from you! I know you"re run ragged with worlds but a video fo your thoughts on how everything shook out would be amazing!
It's more likely the other way around, Ali might have been measured as shorter than he is. Also shoes make a difference, they might have different ones etc
Yeah I remember Oleksiy Torokhtiy measuring him at 195 in his Romaleos. The link below is the video I'm referring to ruclips.net/video/2wzS4Uewddw/видео.html
For me I feel like he isn't motivated anymore, he's already proved his worth by becoming the strongest weightlifter in the world, maybe one more olympics and thats it.

Interesting thought, if they had trained since a young age in the two events. Shaw and Hafthor are 2 and 3 inches taller than Lasha who is already pretty tall. Hall though is only 6'2" would be interesting to see what he could have done. With Halfthor and Hall specifically would be interesting to see what the impact of frequent WADA screenings would have done to their potential.
Eager to hear word soon on Lasha’s heart issue, injuries, etc. I hope he can surmount them. Do you think his sub-par (for Lasha, not for mere mortals) performance was due in any way to altitude?
Altitude, nagging injuries, all of it. Post-competition interview he said he has had wrist and neck pain. He is still getting over his partial quad tear from earlier this year. He has also mentioned heart issues. Despite all that, to still win, is incredible. Hopefully he can remain healthy.
@@finrod55 His name is Giorgi Chincharauli and the post is in Georgian. The summary is basically that he has many small injuries and problems with his joints, like the wrists and knees. His muscle tore a second time and he began to have heart arrhythmia so he had to loose weight and weighed in at 166 kg instead of 180 kg and the aforementioned altitude problems. He also claims that the organizers didn't provide food for the athletes and that they had to live on fast food for their time in Bogota. And the rest was him stating that the people watching only see the results on the stage but they don't know how many hours of hard work and training are behind them.
Well given how Lasha came in so light under 170 kg, it makes you wonder what it would be like if they stopped drug testing. Because some worlds strongest men competitors have pushed about 210 kg bodyweight (Brian Shaw claims to have completed at 460 lbs before, and I'd believe it considering he looked noticably bigger than he is now at around 390-410lbs) and I know the Hafthor Julius Bjornsson has weighed over 205kg at points during his strongman career. It would be interesting to see if Lasha could ever get to 200+ kg and be a competitive lifter, or if that weight would impact his bar path too much.
Olympic weightlifters never compete in commerce world strongest man...and vice versa who among these athletes should be crowned 👑 the world's strongest I wonder
I question the logic of lifters who are at the top or close to it in a weight category, then gain a bunch of weight to then have no chance of winning as a superheavyweight. Very strange strategy, and the results show it.
