  • In this video, I highlight my last duck hunt of the 2022-2023 duck season. I also show how I process the ducks that I got using the paraffin wax method and I cook up a northern shoveler and green-winged teal for dinner.

Nice! It's so tough to spot the different types of ducks while they're in the air. I'll be blasting at everything in the sky. 🤣 🤣 🤣

It's definitely challenging, everything looks the same initially lol. It's a skill you develop over time, I was getting the hang of spotting the pintails from the other ducks during this hunt.

My diver recipe from a fellow California duck hunter. This is what I do with all divers even the rice fed ones. I score the meat, then slice them into strips, next I marinade them in equal parts soy sauce and oyster sauce next add brown sugar, honey and lots of fresh cut garlic. Marinade minimum 2 hours I recommend 1-2 days. Then I will make them into poppers with jalapenos, cream cheese and wrap it in bacon. I recommend cutting the jalapenos in half taking the seeds out and letting the peppers sit in ice water for a few hours to take out some of the kick. It will change they way you eat divers. Try this for the upcoming season.

enjoyed it., just found your vids. your cooking is on point. yes spoonies and most divers (IMO) have an off taste. see alot of shovelers on sewer ponds. what they eat can change the taste. some ive cooked were great, others were yuck. i tend to give them away and keep the others. ive been hunting Arkansas for over 20 years, spotting and ID'ing ducks just takes time in the field. the more you hunt the more you will season. Good luck this year. go hunt a Specklebelly goose.. great table fair.

Thank you! Yes, diet is a big factor. It makes cooking more interesting knowing the flavors aren't always going to be the same. I'm lucky the ones that I got weren't bad.
I've never heard of a specklebelly goose, I'll need to look into that.

Awesome video. What is the distance between you and decoys?

Thanks! The decoys were about 10-15 yards away from us.

Did you gut them at all before you put it in the fridge/plucked them?

No, I gut them after plucking. Waterfowl can be stored in the fridge for a few days before needing to be processed.
