Thanks man! Definitely was a great first time experience. I'm so used to not being successful and struggling that I was gonna be happy with just 1 bird. To get my limit was unbelievable.
for using the finisher there's a soft spot in the back of the head right under the little notch on the top and you stick it in, point it up, and twist. Ringing a neck isn't humane unless you dislocate the spinal cord at the base of the neck.
I ate them all, I just don't like to film myself eating. The spoonies and ruddy ducks tasted good. Diet plays a big role in how they'll taste. Birds from different regions will be eating different things. So I'm not going to assume they're all bad just because other hunters said so. I've heard negative things about every game animal by now and 90% of the time, they're wrong. The gamiest duck I've had was a bufflehead and even then it was mostly in the leg meat. I still ate the whole bird, a little gaminess isn't off-putting enough for me to waste my dinner...
The duck breast meat was delicious. Cooking them medium rare is definitely the way to go. No gamey or weird flavors in the meat or fat, super tender meat. The legs and wings were small and have tougher meat, cooking them at a low temp for longer resulted in some tender meat though.
What an awesome experience for your first time. Nice cooking session, too. Great video

Know any good coyote spots in cali?
Not really. I don't target them but I've seen their scat out there or spotted one on just about every piece of public land that I've hunted.
How can you shoot ducks that you don’t know what they are 😂
