It absolutely works. I've used planer boards from the bank for years in tailwaters of the flood control reservoirs all over Central Kentucky. I've caught many species of all sizes. There are no boats and you can fish across the total width of the narrow rivers. Nice to sit in the shade next to that cool rushing water on a hot summer day. Best to use at least 2 swivels in your rig. That current can really twist line bad.
That is THE FISHING TIP OF THE YEAR brother! I see that boat coming and all I could think is that sob is going to push it back in 😂 Thanks for sharing. God Bless.
What a great idea. We have no skipjack here in Southeastern Virginia. Now if I could figure out how to pull my net out with a planer board for big gizzard shad..
John, this video is AWESOME! Usually I take my buddy when I go after skips, but his work schedule and mine don't allow for it right now. I'll be trying this technique this week down at Kentucky and Barkley. Fingers crossed. 🤞
Hey Regular Dude, just wanted to let you know they were catching skipjack below the ky dam today. Guy next to me brought in about 20, some were pretty damn fat too. We were all the way at the point past the bridge and the pier, nice little spot where the channel meets the lock for the barges, he was getting them right where the current hit the slack water. Had the best luck on a larger Sabiki with a 1-2 oz weight. Couple guys caught some closer to the dam but they had all of the gates open today and the current was brutal, don't think they got anywhere near what he did. Caught 2 nice little channel cats at the point as well while taking a short break from snagging. Nice 3-5 lb cats were nonstop hitting something on the surface from sunrise until about 11:00, and kept at it throughout the day but slowed down as it got later. Guessing shad or some other little fish. Couldn't get the presentation right to connect with any of them but they were chowing down.
I always wondered if you could use them boards from the bank, I'm use that method when I get some them boards. I can see me now getting all that hung up in somebody line and me going crazy lol
Hey bro just found your channel. The greenup dam is my favorite fishing spot ever. My mom lives in Franklin furnace just about two miles from the dam. Haven't been in years. I caught a 29lb hybrid in 97' that's featured in the April 98 issue of infisherman. Just a few lbs from the world record. Caught it on a threadfin shad during a thunder storm. Planning to come back soon maybe we could meet up and catch some monsters. Peace bro.
Steve O. Yea there's always something biting but when the hybrids are biting there's just nothing like it. Its like getting your hook snagged on a car speeding down the highway. I love it. I'm about two hours away but my mom lives in Franklin furnace about three minutes from the dam. Do you go there often?
thats a great idea ,,,also i caught my personal best blue 47lb, on the rod and reel you gave me at the meet and greet at the tackle box in ohio 2 years ago, i put the reel on a steve douglas rod ,,, just wanted to say thanks
