101 Dalmatians - Dodie Smith
The Hobbit - J.R.R. Tolkien
The Chronicles of Narnia - C.S. Lewis
The Stitchers - Lorien Lawrence
Hannah Coulter - Wendell Berry
Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen
Myrtle Hardcastle mysteries - Elizabeth C. Bunce
Melendy Family Quartet - Elizabeth Enright
The Star That Always Stays - Anna Rose Johnson
So nice to hear you mention 101 Dalmations - that book helped me through ups and downs in my youth - when I was feeling down I would pick a favourite chapter to re read and eventually the book just fell apart - loved to destruction😂
Very few ppl talk about Hannah Coulter so my ears perked up. I read Jayber Crow first and fell in love so hard w that gorgeous book. I then had to read HC but didn't enjoy it nearly as much and I don't know why. 😢 But Jayber Crow has my heart.
Also, I'm 50 and have never read TLOTR. Ugh. I absolutely need to remedy this immediately!
What's not to love about Jane Austen's 'Pride and Prejudice'? I think it's my joint favourite with 'Persuasion' Elizabeth sparkles - she's who I'd like to be whereas Anne Elliot is closer to my character, on a good day. Mary Bennet on a bad day!
Me too!! Persuasion is tied for number one with me.
I remember crying in The Start That Always Stays, especially at the stepfather's kind and gentle ways.
Bell Family & the Melendy's in the same video 🥰
+ Hobbit!
I love Wendell Berry's poetry and nonfiction more, but I do agree that Hannah is exemplary.
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader went up a lot for me in my recent reread of the series (in publication order, of course!). It went from least favorite to fourth or third favorite. The introduction of Eustace in the first few paragraphs had me laughing out loud!
I always make note of a book or two from these lists. This time it's the Bell family ( What can I say? We're a clergy family, too!), Hannah Coulter, and The Star that Always Stays. I appreciate this series. Thanks!
Also, loving this entire series of softening books. You make great videos, my friend!
(Melanie here) I'm LOVING this series!!
So many books on here that I haven't read! I particularly love the sound of The Star That Always Stays.
She is a big L. M. Montgomery fan too!
That definitely increases my interest in her work!@@katehowereads
I am always happy to see one of this series posted, and will be sorry when it ends.
I recently watched Book Traveler's Desert Island books picks, and he put Pride and Prejudice at the top of his list. Kind of surprising, from such an endearing old codger. (The Bible and Shakespeare were taken for granted, before the list was made.)
I was surprised to see your middle grade horror title! Oh, my!
Comparing the Narnia books and the Lord of the Rings is almost like comparing apples and oranges. They are just such different things, and have to be taken for what they are, I think.
Off topic - I would like to encourage readers to check as many of these books as they can out of the public libraries, as well as buying the keepers. It the books aren't being checked out, they will lose their places on the shelves, and browsers and the oncoming generations won't be able to come across them serendipitously. We use the busiest branch of a huge metro library system. Not one Trollope on the shelves when I looked last week. The staff person told me the classics don't "move."
The Melendys!! I love them so much.
Several more books for my TBR-thanks, Kate! 😃 Hannah Coulter especially intrigues me, that one sounds right up my alley!
Added more to my TBR, thanks!
😍💗♥️soooo many great ones! I’ve never heard of The Stitchers. 😂
Voyage of the Dawn Treader is my husband's favorite. I love all of them but Silver Chair really intrigues me. Now, don't throw anything at me but I am not a fan of HP. Love all that C. S. Lewis has written and love the Hobbit, though.
❤🎉
