I found it only worked in smaller houses (saved me a lot of time when it came to finding the ghost room) and rarely works on larger maps (got absolutely no readings at the school during a run and we basically left with no ghost activity because we got bored). A fair rank for each item, and a superb informational video for new players. My friends that I play with seem hellbent on using the UV flashlight to check for footprints, even though we always bring glowsticks, which made me wonder if they actually knew that the glowstick does the same thing; but with less margin for error depending on how you drop the flashlight. On that point, something else you could do with the glowsticks, is to illuminate a path to a closet, should you foresee yourself be unfortunate enough to be caught in a hunt, without a flashlight. Not super likely, but if a friend is playing pack-mule, you might have saved them.
I love using the sound sensor to find the ghost room in a house cause it hilarious when everyone is upstairs and you find it in a side room on the first floor.
One use our group has for glowsticks is simply a place marker in the bigger maps, such as the school, asylum, and prison. Some of us get turned around really easily, so laying a glowstick outside the room the ghost is in helps us remember where we were when we return with more items to investigate. The ghost can't really do much to it other than knock it around a little.
my personal ranking because i did this exact same tier list- S- Strong flashlight, book, thermometer, UV flashlight, Video camera, spirit box, EMF reader and sanity pills A- crucifix, motion sensor, smudge sticks B- head mounted camera, salt, tripod C- sound sensor, parabolic microphone, lighter, glowstick and base flashlight D- infared sensor (what does it even do?) and candle
Maybe rate the maps in based on difficulty to find ghost room, run away from ghost if being hunted (ease of breaking line of sight, looping spots, hiding spots etc etc)??
The sound sensor is actually pretty useful on larger maps, if you have alot of them. Just spread them out on the map and you can practically wait in your truck for something to happen. We had some problems in locating the ghost on the camp map, so we put the sensors everywhere. This made it pretty easy to find what we were looking for. The parabolic microphone, while it would theorectically do the same thing, never proved to be very effective to me.
In the new beta branch Insym explained how a door touch could show emf 5, I think the sound sensor should be upraded to be able to detect this from the van.
I find sound sensors to be pretty useful on larger maps. They can cover a couple of rooms when tactically placed, and it helps me a lot in finding or eliminating entire areas of the map as potentially holding the ghost room pretty quickly. I do think they're a bit more useful in team games where you have a truck monkey who can relay sound info to you, so you don't have to walk all the way back to check.
The candle is literally S-tier in all but 3 maps your sanity wont drain unless there’s a ghost event and you wont even need the flash light since it illuminates a small area around you
I find the sound sensors pretty useful to set up on larger maps. Set them up to cover most of the bottom floor of high school then wait in the van for a while. Even if you don't get lucky to catch the room on sensors, the setup and monitoring gives the ghost some time to open doors, throw stuff around, and cool down the temperatures to find the ghost room more easily.
I find the motion sensor can be useful if you have a wandering ghost down a hallway. By placing a couple of them then you can establish how far along the hallway it is wandering. The IR Light sensor can be used in smaller rooms - if the light box it out then having the light constantly flashing will provide a light source. Certainly if you are in a bigger place like a school then you can place one outside a designated safe room - hence while running you get a tip off that you need to turn into the next room. The above is very niche
Glowsticks, because they don't flicker during hunts, can also be used as visual markers for those larger maps, as it can be easy for some people to get lost. Indicate the ghost room, and put them in key locations marking the path to the ghost room, to help with traveling. So I would have put it in A tier, for that kind of use.
But... sound sensor setups on anything other than the houses are a huge boon to finding the ghost room. I've gotten my Asylum runs down to 20-30 minutes consistently, EXCLUSIVELY due to sound sensors. There aren't enough people in Phasmophobia willing to play larger maps because it's too much of a time sink for not enough reward.
Parabolic microphone is quite nice. I use it in Prison. It helps narrowing down where the ghost is, so we dont spend too much time in the dark wondering where the ghost is
I'd adjust a couple of items on the tier list myself. I'll just list my changes. Ghost book S->A EMF Reader S->A The reason I'd drop these out of S tier is because I feel the other evidence gathering items are better all around. Spirit box can drop your sanity if you need, UV flashlight also flashes during hunts and can double as a really weak light source, temp is just op in general, and video cameras can show activity in a room letting you see the ghost interacting while you aren't even there (plus ghost book). You could argue that the EMF reader should be in S tier since it can give you a little more information about the ghost but it seems a little finicky at times. Ghost book literally has only 1 benefit and the video camera makes this even more powerful by being able to check that from the safety of the van.
Awesome tier list! Surprised you didn't put spirit box in the first slot of S. 😆 I have a soft spot for the sound sensor. It's just fun to see the room names light up in the truck. 😅 It's weird when they're all placed in separate wings of the asylum and all light up at once. Using glowsticks as disposable light sources could have more use for players unfamiliar with the larger maps. They can place them at the room or in an area to help them find the exit/stairs.
The sound sensor is s teir on small maps as it can give away the ghost room without having to be in the building but large maps it doesn't cover enough area to be useful. Motion sensors are super specific and don't help unless you place them close to the ghost room and you can just place it around the house quickly.
I'd argue some evidence tools are less important than others. For example, the UV light can look for fingerprints sure, but so can a glow stick. Making it not the only option. Where as you need to use an EMF to get that reading. Thermometer is definitely an interesting case because it's not necessary to get freezing temperatures, but makes every run significantly easier. Book is also higher for me, since you can place it and forget about it, plus it gives you additional money for pictures.
I was surprised to see the sound sensor so low on your list. I have found it extremely useful on the medium maps like the farmhouses or ridgeview. I know this list was also made before campground was released but sound sensors are like the ultimate cheese strat for that map lol
Motion sensors can be used in the room to detect where the ghost will appear. This is useful for the hunts so they can tell you what part of the room to avoid the most and prep you for an escape route to your designated hiding place. I always set them up and they always help me out.
I would actually argue the motion sensor a little bit and push it for B tier. It's actually useful for a combo with the crucifix and the reason I say that is because of the range of the crucifix is about the length of the motion sensors beam, and if you're in a large room, the actual spawn point for the ghost could be anywhere, typically countering the crucifix. But you can use the motion sensor to cut down the space to work within a large room, making the crucifix much much more effective. I do this a lot and have great reliability. To the point that the ghost gets so pissed, it will burn both crucifixes instantly lol..
I'd put the evidence items as A tier. They help you identify the ghost but that is all. EMF and thermo, to a lesser degree, do that as well but also are very useful in finding the ghost room to use the other items in.
I developed a creative use for the infrared sensor, what I try to do is place them along escape routes and paths and on corners by the ghost room. This gives an additional way of tracking where the ghost is during a hunt and can give you a split second of extra response time if you need to quickly turn around and not run smack into the ghost. Not the most useful thing I know, but I can legit say this saved me a few times when the ghost spawns on another floor, and seeing this light go off tells me to get away and break line of sight
You helped me a lot at the game I don't play the legit game but I play roblox and there is a game and you have helped go play solo. You are awesome keep working and one day you will glow up
Love the video, as I do everything you upload! I think all the vital things shouldve gone in A except the thermometer, strong flashlight, and Key Only because theyre still situational while the other three are 100% useful all the time
With the scale you defined, only disagreement is that Candle should be in S, and Smudge in A. However, I think it is more useful to expand your S tier and condense your C and D, since almost half are in the top and the bottom is very barren. My list: S: Supreme utility beyond practical applications Thermo, EMF, Photo Cam, Candle, Lighter, UV Flashlight, Spirit Box, S. Flashlight EMF sensor is useful even if you aren't dealing with a 5-er, as it can act like an activity siren when placed in some rooms. Photocam can find fingerprints without UV, in addition to netting tons of money and side objectives. Candle nullifies sanity drain, better than a flashlight if you know the geometry of maps and aren't watching for activity to scan with EMF. Lighter enables candle and other environment candles, as well as smudge sticks. UV Flashlight illuminates a wide area when placed, better than glow stick for following footprints, is a weak light source, and blinks on hunts. Spirit box ghosts can be tracked with "where are you". All Flashlights have the additional utility of signaling hunts, which a candle cannot do. A: Required to solve ghost type but little additional utility Video Cam, Book Other than providing evidence, these tools don't have "bonus utility". B: Great supplements Salt, Smudge, Crucifix, Tripod, Pills Salt can instantly solve a ghost type without requiring a hunt or other evidence. Smudge sticks raise activity and block hunts, or act as a defensive measure during one, but they do require a lighter, and along with a flashlight that's a full inventory. Tripod can massively increase covered area on certain rooms/maps and make it easier to get a precise angle Pills obviously smooth out difficult hunts but are less useful if you utilize the candle properly C: Some utility but non-essential Flashlight, Headcam, Motion, IR Motion, Parabolic Only thing I want to mention is the Motion sensors are both good at tracking a ghost's movement throughout a room or checking if they're wandering, which can be useful to know. Parabolic is very misunderstood, it can hear activity "back in time", but it's not better than your own ears and eyes and thermo beats it out for finding the room. D: Too Slow / Utility eclipsed by other tools Glowstick, Sound Sensor Anything the glowstick can do, the UV flashlight does better when thrown on the ground. Sound sensor combines the relatively useless data of the Parabolic with the extra cost of going back to the truck.
I'd argue that the Photo Camera deserves its own tier in S+ Tier. It can even take up the UV Light's job of finding Fingerprint Evidence on top of earning extra cash. Also, some of the evidence items are less useful than others. If I were to make an S - tier, I would put the EMF Reader and UV Light into that tier. They're usually necessary, but their usefulness is overridden by other items, specifically the Ghost Activity Monitor and Photo Camera respectively.
I've started on this game a few days ago, and I don't know why but I've developed an unhealthy obsession with the Motion Sensors, it's already a running gag in my Group that I'll always run into the house with at least one of these first, lol.
I was hoping for a little more nuance and talking about the evidence items usefulness. Just as a complete entry level video for everyone to understand going into the game. The spirit box being useful on more ghosts (7) than anything else is something to note. Whereas fingerprints are more rare (5). I feel motion and infrared sensors are a little more useful just to detect wandering ghosts, especially those painful hallway ghosts. Niche use but still worth noting. Perhaps a breakdown of each? So far a lot of your videos have helped newcomers I've gotten into the game quite a lot and your info is pretty good. Also car keys are S tier, messing with the car always gets a response
I'd love to see ghosts which are invisible to eye and are only seen via cameras or sensors. Maybe they could be slow and/or rarely hunt? For me it would add to this whole "preparation" of the ghost finding, because now you don't really need to prepare, as rushing with termometer and other necessary items is simply quicker and very reliable. What do you think?
If im ever in medium or large maps, Ill use the motion sensor to mark which room the ghost is in when i go back to the truch, so I dont lose it. It ranks higher for me
Motion and sound sensors are my favorite tools, especially bc I am too scared to actually go into the house after I set up the sensors , infrared is just something I do just for the fun of it, bc you can barely see the light bc of the room light, and I don't think it shows in the map in the truck
I usually use crucifix to make sure that ghost can't start hunt outside the room. I'll throw one at the door and one somewhere near the room so I can always be sure that ghost can't be on my way when I escape. Because of this I would put it to S tier. If I'm doing starter item runs or I simply haven't put crucifix down yet and hunt starts I run almost always straight towards the ghost when I get out of the room :D
Just to make the lighter not so essential to carry around, they should allow players to turn on stoves, fireplaces, and other fire sources to light the smudgesticks. The lighter could still be useful to light the smudge sticks anywhere, but wouldn't have to take up another inventory slot if carrying the smudge sticks
Loving the lists. Personally, I feel setting the ghost identifying items to S tier is a detriment to the list, and it may be more interesting to rank them according to their usefulness not to identify the ghost, but to locate the room. In any case, thank you for the video! :)
Nice tier list, but to be honest the s-tier seems pretty crowded. I think some items could also belong in a-tier too from personal experience and usage, probably the emf-reader and smudge sticks. I also never really used candles myself because I usually end up with my inventory already full with all the other things for evidence and objectives so those usually get skipped over, but I could maybe consider them on bigger maps for conserving sanity.
For the most part, I agree with your decisions on the placement of these items. The parabolic mic has never seem to work right from what I've seen, and even if it did work it probably would only be that useful on larger maps. The motion and infrared sensors only seem to be that useful when doing certain challenges where you may use them to try and determine how fast a ghost is moving. That's the only thing I've really seen those have a use for at all. A very informative video! Thanks, Nuzzgard! I hope I get to play another round with you sometime on the stream. Hopefully your computer won't crash next time! XD Twitch username: livimaxx
On professional where you have to turn power on before you can get proper temp readings, on large maps the sound sensor is amazing and a must have. Because the ghost can turn off power at any time leaving your temp readings in the air, where the sound sensors can tell you where the ghost is or where it isn't if you don't happen to get the room. Should be at least B tier. Normal flashlight should be C or D tier because it is useless, after 2 or 3 games you will never use it again.
I’d put sound sensor on b tier and motion on d. Motion I’ll only ever use to get the objective done. Sound sensors I use in all the large maps to narrow down the ghosts position quicker without going room to room
I start every single game on smaller maps with a motion sensor. It helps finding the ghost's exact location before setting up, which can be quite difficult with small rooms next to small hallways.
Sometimes I like to use the motion sensors when I have a wondering ghost because it allows me to get an idea of how much in each direction its moving wether its a small map or large. And if Im going after a polti, I dont like to, but with friends Ill do a no evidence run, Ill use a sound sensor to see if its the Polti because the sound should be reading higher due to its activity ifs its in a item full room. I do think the sensors arent that useful, but under the right circumstances I think they can be useful.

I love these Phasmaphobia tier lists that you're making! Hopefully you can make make another some time in the near future. 🤞
Wow, your tier list is quite literally just logic itself, I think I agree on every item there, nice video!
I’m using all of these lists to help figure out what maps I should do, what items to take, and what to do for different ghosts
Thanks :)
my personal ranking because i did this exact same tier list-
S- Strong flashlight, book, thermometer, UV flashlight, Video camera, spirit box, EMF reader and sanity pills
A- crucifix, motion sensor, smudge sticks
B- head mounted camera, salt, tripod
C- sound sensor, parabolic microphone, lighter, glowstick and base flashlight
D- infared sensor (what does it even do?) and candle
Maybe rate the maps in based on difficulty to find ghost room, run away from ghost if being hunted (ease of breaking line of sight, looping spots, hiding spots etc etc)??
The sound sensor is actually pretty useful on larger maps, if you have alot of them. Just spread them out on the map and you can practically wait in your truck for something to happen. We had some problems in locating the ghost on the camp map, so we put the sensors everywhere. This made it pretty easy to find what we were looking for. The parabolic microphone, while it would theorectically do the same thing, never proved to be very effective to me.
Who else thinks he looks so intimidating and like he should have a super deep voice but his voice is so calm and soothing
Been loving your content, keep it up man!
Sound Sensor is incredibly useful for medium/large maps if you are running it solo or with a small team to figure the general area a ghost may be.
I would put a coffee cup on top as broken item, the only downside it has, is the fact you have to find it and you cant start with it
What does the coffee cup do?
@@hamadded7353 It makes your pp bigger when you steal it from a map. you are also showing your dominance
But... sound sensor setups on anything other than the houses are a huge boon to finding the ghost room. I've gotten my Asylum runs down to 20-30 minutes consistently, EXCLUSIVELY due to sound sensors. There aren't enough people in Phasmophobia willing to play larger maps because it's too much of a time sink for not enough reward.
emf you can check it in the van, you can use the head camera if you are playing in a lobby, and thermo is also dispensable
Thanks! Also 17k🎉
Parabolic microphone is quite nice. I use it in Prison. It helps narrowing down where the ghost is, so we dont spend too much time in the dark wondering where the ghost is
I'd adjust a couple of items on the tier list myself. I'll just list my changes.
Ghost book S->A
EMF Reader S->A
The reason I'd drop these out of S tier is because I feel the other evidence gathering items are better all around. Ghost book literally has only 1 benefit and the video camera makes this even more powerful by being able to check that from the safety of the van.
i usually don't go for the thermometer b/c in freezing temps, you can see your own breath and i use that as an indicator for it
Awesome tier list! Surprised you didn't put spirit box in the first slot of S. 😆
I have a soft spot for the sound sensor.
Literally got the game last night you're guides are super helpful
You’re gaining subs so quickly, I hope you get a play button soon! 💙
Yay been waiting for a vid like this!
Infrared motion sensor is an awesome placeable light source when bugged, though.
The lighter should be like a head mounted camera. You can take it and it won’t take up space.
I found this video to be very helpful so thank you.
Next one could perhaps be about hiding places
Motion sensors can be used in the room to detect where the ghost will appear. This is useful for the hunts so they can tell you what part of the room to avoid the most and prep you for an escape route to your designated hiding place. I always set them up and they always help me out.
Same with the lights
Thanks I am excited to play this game thanks to you.
I think I would put smudge sticks and sanity pills in A tier because I don't always use them. Otherwise the list is great!
I think the sound sensor is useful in places like the prison, and the other big maps, can really help pin a location down.
Nuzzguard is basically the Bob ross to phasmaphobia instead of a amazing afro is a perfect beard pretty nice and thanks for the tip Buzz very helpful
Mark the exit with the glowsticks. It really helps in the larger maps.
Really helpful video luv your vids btw
I'd put the evidence items as A tier. They help you identify the ghost but that is all. EMF and thermo, to a lesser degree, do that as well but also are very useful in finding the ghost room to use the other items in.
I would love to see you play Phasmo in VR, I've played Phasmo in VR myself and it's much more scary and immersive.
Great video as always. They should buff/rework the Para mic because it looked so " ghost hunter-y" in my opinion.
You helped me a lot at the game I don't play the legit game but I play roblox and there is a game and you have helped go play solo. You are awesome keep working and one day you will glow up
Cool vid!
Your sound is a bit low, especially compared to the ads.
Keep up the good work!
Love the video, as I do everything you upload!
I think all the vital things shouldve gone in A except the thermometer, strong flashlight, and Key
Only because theyre still situational while the other three are 100% useful all the time
I use the glowstick for marking the ghost room, mainly on bigger maps
dang i was subbed on 10k subs and now 17k. keep it up nuzzgard!
Sound sensors are pretty good since they can be used to narrow down ghost locations on large maps like Asylum
Hell yea a new video, love to see it man
With the scale you defined, only disagreement is that Candle should be in S, and Smudge in A. However, I think it is more useful to expand your S tier and condense your C and D, since almost half are in the top and the bottom is very barren. My list:
S: Supreme utility beyond practical applications
Thermo, EMF, Photo Cam, Candle, Lighter, UV Flashlight, Spirit Box, S. Flashlight
EMF sensor is useful even if you aren't dealing with a 5-er, as it can act like an activity siren when placed in some rooms.
A: Required to solve ghost type but little additional utility
Video Cam, Book
Other than providing evidence, these tools don't have "bonus utility".
B: Great supplements
Salt, Smudge, Crucifix, Tripod, Pills
Salt can instantly solve a ghost type without requiring a hunt or other evidence.
Smudge sticks raise activity and block hunts, or act as a defensive measure during one, but they do require a lighter, and along with a flashlight that's a full inventory.
Tripod can massively increase covered area on certain rooms/maps and make it easier to get a precise angle
Pills obviously smooth out difficult hunts but are less useful if you utilize the candle properly
C: Some utility but non-essential
Flashlight, Headcam, Motion, IR Motion, Parabolic
Only thing I want to mention is the Motion sensors are both good at tracking a ghost's movement throughout a room or checking if they're wandering, which can be useful to know.
Parabolic is very misunderstood, it can hear activity "back in time", but it's not better than your own ears and eyes and thermo beats it out for finding the room.
D: Too Slow / Utility eclipsed by other tools
Glowstick, Sound Sensor
Anything the glowstick can do, the UV flashlight does better when thrown on the ground.
Sound sensor combines the relatively useless data of the Parabolic with the extra cost of going back to the truck.
We should realize that in a larger map the sound sensor can be pretty useful if used correctly
Sound sensor is great for bigger maps. I find it very useful on Prison.
Nobody:
Me: Uses Glowsticks to throw a party in the ghost room, S tier item btw..
Just throw sticks ontop of salt piles to get footprint smh
Glowsticks can be useful on big maps. You can use them as checkpoints
You are like a wiki I can listen too!
XD

The glow stick can be used as a part of a breadcrumb trail
Sometimes I like to use the motion sensors when I have a wondering ghost because it allows me to get an idea of how much in each direction its moving wether its a small map or large. And if Im going after a polti, I dont like to, but with friends Ill do a no evidence run, Ill use a sound sensor to see if its the Polti because the sound should be reading higher due to its activity ifs its in a item full room. I do think the sensors arent that useful, but under the right circumstances I think they can be useful.
