    Life saver! I was struggling with this one applying correctly. Using 'open-in' IE11 fixed our issue. I was using 'Edge' due to the new MS update, thinking that was the right way to do it.

    Thank you very much for this wonderfully helpful video. We had tried this out using Edge Default Browser setting to add couple of sites to IE mode, and observed a limit of 90 days for the IE compatibility setting. Will this(90 days limit) go away, when the steps are done as demonstrated in this video?

    • @philreinie8976
      @philreinie8976 Год назад

      Yeah, we found that 90 day limit too, which is why I checked out this excellent video.
      Considering Edge seems to update itself every other day (exaggerated) I almost think re-adding the sites after 90 days is preferred over having to redownload those files when Edge updates, as we'd have to deploy this to users and scripting the file download based on the Edge version (which updates for users at different times) is a lot more work.

    • @philreinie8976

    Excelente! me funcionó a la primera, muchas gracias por compartir! Lo configuré en equipos con Win10Pro y funcionó son problemas, pero en equipos con Windows 10 Home fue necesario descargar e instalar el GPO para hacer los ajustes, sin embargo no funcionó, ¿será necesario algún ajuste adicional o simplemente con Win10Home no funcionara? Gracias otra vez.

    Hi, I followed all the explanation but when I go to "edge://compat/enterprise" (8:40), version number and location are empty. A red icon is displayed before the "Force Update" button that says "Error: No URL or invalid URL for EMIE Sitelist" and even though I press the Force button nothing happens.
    What can be wrong? Is there any way to reset for correct the error and apply the procedure?
    Thanks in advance.👍

    Thanks for this, but this process is Way too complex for most people, I think. I am frustrated that new browsers don't allow you to save text files. I don't understand it.

    Thank you for this tutorial. I have followed all the steps and the .xml file is updated corrected and reflects the .url that I need to open in IE Compatibility mode. It how ever still only launches in Edge.

    Microsoft Edge Compatibility
    Search compatibility
    Enterprise Mode Site List
    Sites on this list use Internet Explorer Mode with Microsoft Edge to automatically open in Internet Explorer 11. Once in Internet Explorer 11, sites are rendered using a modified browser configuration that emulates IE8, IE7 and the IE8 - IE11 document modes to help avoid the common compatibility problems associated with web apps written and tested on an older version of Internet Explorer. If you feel that a site should be removed from the list then please contact your system administrator.
    Currently there are no entries in this list.

      Sounds like it could be any of the following related to the sites.xml file:
      -The xml file wasn't filled in correctly.
      -The xml file wasn't converted from a text document to xml file.
      -The path to where your xml file wasn't typed in correctly in the 'Configure the Enterprise Mode Site List' setting in Group Policy.
      I would redo the sites.xml file again and double check the path. Hope that helps.

  • @lordyrich

    OK here is a big warning to all to avoid the pain I went through,
    Edge in IE mode does not open popups/links in IE mode.
    So make sure you have the full parent path in the sites.xml
    So: domain/
    Not: domain/something

    Great instructions, unfortunately, it doesn't work for me. We have a site that needs to open in IE mode to run Silverlight (yes, I know it's not supported but we can't re-write the site), but what happens is that it just keeps saying "To open this page in IE mode, re-install Edge with administrator privileges" and then just keeps opening another new tab and repeats the message. Yeah, if I don't stop it, it will add tabs indefinitely. We've tried re-installing Edge as administrator, but it makes no difference, so we're stuck, and to make things worse, this Silverlight page is critical to our business, so it HAS to work, and it does on existing machines, but when we install Windows 10 22H2 on new computers, that's when this problem comes up and we don't know what is causing it. We know it's permissions related because if we log into a new machine as domain admin, the Silverlight page opens fine, it's only when a user logs in that the never-ending tabs keep happening. Making them local admin or power user doesn't work though. :( Also, running Edge as domain admin under the user account does not work either.

      @darrenberkey7017 5 месяцев назад

      Update: Well, it turned out to just be a wonky Windows installation. We re-installed from scratch, and now we don't have any issues getting our Silverlight page to open in IE mode. Go figure. 🙄

    For some reason when I try to access my files in a website on Microsoft Edge for Xbox, it says "Your organization turned off access to local files on this computer." Any advice?

    • @technotard13
      @technotard13  2 года назад

      Sorry for the late response. Unfortunately, the steps in my video will not work on the XBOX version of Edge due to needing access to the underlying file system. Microsoft doesn't give access the file system of XBOX OS and I'm pretty sure group policy isn't a part of the system. It would be cool though to have this feature on there.

    • @TheStevenWhiting
      @TheStevenWhiting 2 года назад

      Turns out my issue was permissions of where the xml was. So stuck it in the root of the domain so file:\\YOURDOMAINNAME\NETLOGON\siteslist\sites.xml put that as the location and then all users have permissions to that by default as its where they get group policy from anyway and worked.

      Yep because their location for the xml they appear to show wrong. They show it as c:/temp/temp whatever. They show forward slashes instead of back slashes.
