This worked!! The latest Super Patch Tuesday this morning, 10-10-2023, disabled IE starting up entirely from it's shortcut. I used to go to the x86 directory and retype the BHO directory name to: (BLOCK) BHO (EXT) but they changed that method it seems. This works! Just put the shortcut on the desktop or wherever, change to the usual IE icon to make it look nice, and you're done! Perfect!! IE is the only browser I've found that saves webpages properly and you can save in the .mht single file format which comes up perfectly later on.

Actually you can change the home page. First enable the command bar by right clicking the top of the Internet Explorer window. Then go to the website that you want to set as the home page. Finally click the arrow to the right of the house icon, click "Add or change home page", select the first option and click ok.
This is ridiculously simple, nobody else (apparently) has figured it out, and it works! Thank you. Question: How can we protect this solution and the pertinent files from some future Microsoft exploit to kill/remove IE entirely? Change Ownership to User or somehow make the files immutable (a la "chattr +i" in Linux)? ZIP up the IE file structure for future restoration?
I am glad you liked this, I am not sure if it can be retained for the future, but I am sure it will be there for a while yet, if it does get removed then it may be possible someone will come up with a portable version of IE.

Great walkthrough. Any idea on how to STOP certain software links from opening quickly on Internet Explorer, and then the browser quickly closes the IE page, and re-opens it on Microsoft Edge? (The software then error messages that "the web browser (IE) has been closed before the completion of the process.") Note that this is older software, so any technical support from them is unreachable (the webpage MUST be opened and data downloaded on IE).

@@cwtek1 Thank you for the reply. I have the disc to install Works and when in gets to a certain part of the install it won't go any further because Works cannot be updated as part of the process. So, if IE is running I am hoping the program will get past this part of the installation process. Fingers crossed! 😊

Well as of October11 2023 that does not work a code pops up it says Windows script host the code that it gives is 800A000D that's about it so it does not work

Thanks for everything, nothing else actually let it even open. Internet Explorer 11 is still on my start menu but when I click on it, it does nothing. Didn't know you had to do an obscure command through a vbs script to even get it to open. You were even in-depth for showing even the smallest steps to navigate Windows, I'm fluent in using it I guess and so it was a bit extra for me to hear, but for others, especially that maybe don't know much about navigating computers, I bet for sure helps them, thanks for being that way. Don't know why Microsoft did it like this, it did open before. But now, it's just a COMPLETE mess. I'm glad it's still in 11 and 10 but, now it just makes it more of a mess not being able to open it and with it just being there, with a hundred other legacy programs that probably adds more storage that no one sees. Unfortunately at the moment it does not seem possible to automatically load a start page at present, it will load a blank page you must then type the address you want to go to in the address bar at the top of the screen.

The file can be saved as .vbs but when trying to add (*.*) there is no option . So my question is how to add (*.*) with Save as type [All Files (*.*) ] . Thanks for your reply.
@@muhammadsubhan5763 if that option isn’t there in notepad, then there is a problem with your copy of notepad so therefore that’s why I’m suggesting you use notepad+++ instead of the normal notepad.
I AM really having big time trouble to understand this whole thing why did THEY said that the microsoft windows internet explorer no longer supported and now that YALL still can use this web browser?
They don't want you to carry on using it because there is no one writing updates for Internet Explorer anymore, so it might not be compatible with many websites that use the latest technology and there is no modern day security attached to the browser!

It could be that you have mistyped something please triple check you have typed the command exactly the same and that there are no spaces at the beginning or end of what you have typed.
😭😭😭😭 it's not finding IE. I think I uninstalled it by accident a few months ago! Anyway to REdownload it? I'm running Windows10 Pro! PLEASE HELPPPPP... My Outlook emails don't show ANY images without IE working... it is HORRIBLE!
If you are running windows 10 you can reinstall IE11 by going to Control Panel, then Programs and Features then click on Turn Windows Features on or off, then put a tick next to Internet Explorer 11 and follow any instructions on screen!

@@IJCALDWELL29 Or you could try this: Open an elevated PowerShell. Carefully type or paste this command: Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature -FeatureName "Internet-Explorer-Optional-amd64" -All -Online Then Tap Y when Prompted Then Restart the computer
There was actually exploit to remove edge executable and it would work. This is what I figured out by myself. But seems they fixed it. But yes - this really works and the filename can be whatever you like. Explanation is really so long for a 20 second actual real life work thou.
@@cwtek1 Well, it just renamed it. Not really removed, but windows repairs it in around one week, so it's not "permanent damage". Also not permanent fix. Probably part of windows update is to verify windows files and it puts the edge executable back. And i did not see any problems on using windows market or other menus so it seems it kinda one of those lies to force edge saying edge is essential component of windows.
@@cwtek1 I did, and it worked in a way; it allowed me to have the icon, and it allows the program to launch. But it nearly instantly closes iE and opens Edge.
Now if we could just learn how to Uninstall Microsoft Edge. Edge is using learning to over time intercepts my I.E. links and so I actually have to type in the website URL that I want to visit. We'll see how long it takes for Edge to start intercepting stuff that I type in...😢
I must admit I haven't tried with Java yet, make sure you have downloaded Version 8 Update 361 www.java.com/en/download/windows_offline.jsp you can get it from here.
Would be a nice if an Internet Explorer revival was created I mean Msn Messenger/Windows Live Messenger was revived so I don’t see a reason why Internet Explorer would be any harder
@@cwtek1 maybe Escargot could do it possibly….but they have been very quiet and dormant recently so I guess that would be a no go for now. But I would like to get the aero version of Internet Explorer 11 (Internet Explorer 9) or even Internet Explorer 8

@@2070cube It's not a need. It's a want. you arent seeing the analytics that he can see for his channel or even know what experiences this guy has went through in the past. You dont know how many people he could've had to talk to and re-explain something to because they didn't know how to do something on their computer. we all had to learn somewhere and not all of us are computer geeks who have no life or are just very interested in that to know every little fact on how to do things. you don't know every person that has a computer or their intelligence levels and even if you did, you still don't know who is watching. you can only grasp an understanding from the comments left behind. and maybe instead of being a dick you would watch his short like he advised because oh idk maybe he already thought the same thing that you did!
I am sorry to hear that, perhaps try turning off all extensions in IE, click the cog (Top Right) then Manage Addons, make sure you turn off all addons if you can.
I hate our CCTV even exported video file is absolute proprietary codec unplayable anywhere you can't convert it you can't do anything with it outside CCTV software.

Unfortunately, this did not work on win10 for me. Microsoft just do not allow to create the Internet Explorer application.

I am not sure, works is not officially supported, but Libre Office can open Works Documents!

Thank you so much for this wonderful lil bit of code, I was so fed up with Microsoft attempting to force people to use edge especially since I still use IE but I only use it so I can align all of my other windows to it. that probably sounds off, but I am very particular about how I want my windows to be.

Well as of October11 2023 that does not work a code pops up it says Windows script host the code that it gives is 800A000D that's about it so it does not work

Thanks for everything, nothing else actually let it even open. Internet Explorer 11 is still on my start menu but when I click on it, it does nothing. Didn't know you had to do an obscure command through a vbs script to even get it to open. You were even in-depth for showing even the smallest steps to navigate Windows, I'm fluent in using it I guess and so it was a bit extra for me to hear, but for others, especially that maybe don't know much about navigating computers, I bet for sure helps them, thanks for being that way. Don't know why Microsoft did it like this, it did open before. But now, it's just a COMPLETE mess. I'm glad it's still in 11 and 10 but, now it just makes it more of a mess not being able to open it and with it just being there, with a hundred other legacy programs that probably adds more storage that no one sees. Thanks for helping me get IE to even open again

Unfortunately at the moment it does not seem possible to automatically load a start page at present, it will load a blank page you must then type the address you want to go to in the address bar at the top of the screen.
Hi sir I tried to save the command as per your instructions but when saving the file type All files with adding (*.*). The (*.*) i can not add any way. The file name InternetExplorer.vbs can be written but Save file type i can not add the (*.*) to All Files. please guide me how i to do the above command. Thank you
You could try downloading and installing notepad+++ and see if that allows you to save as a .vbs file
The file can be saved as .vbs but when trying to add (*.*) there is no option . So my question is how to add (*.*) with Save as type [All Files (*.*) ] .

@@muhammadsubhan5763 if that option isn’t there in notepad, then there is a problem with your copy of notepad so therefore that’s why I’m suggesting you use notepad+++ instead of the normal notepad.
I AM really having big time trouble to understand this whole thing why did THEY said that the microsoft windows internet explorer no longer supported and now that YALL still can use this web browser?
They don't want you to carry on using it because there is no one writing updates for Internet Explorer anymore, so it might not be compatible with many websites that use the latest technology and there is no modern day security attached to the browser!

It could be that you have mistyped something please triple check you have typed the command exactly the same and that there are no spaces at the beginning or end of what you have typed.

@@cwtek1 I was already logged in as the administrator account in the computer, I right clicked on the file and couldn’t see run as administrator.

😭😭😭😭 it's not finding IE. I think I uninstalled it by accident a few months ago! Anyway to REdownload it? I'm running Windows10 Pro! PLEASE HELPPPPP... My Outlook emails don't show ANY images without IE working... it is HORRIBLE!
If you are running windows 10 you can reinstall IE11 by going to Control Panel, then Programs and Features then click on Turn Windows Features on or off, then put a tick next to Internet Explorer 11 and follow any instructions on screen!

Open an elevated PowerShell.
Carefully type or paste this command:
Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature -FeatureName "Internet-Explorer-Optional-amd64" -All -Online
Then Tap Y when Prompted
Then Restart the computer

There was actually exploit to remove edge executable and it would work. This is what I figured out by myself. But seems they fixed it. But yes - this really works and the filename can be whatever you like. Explanation is really so long for a 20 second actual real life work thou.
Probably not a good idea to remove edge executable as you might need it at some point. I am glad this video helped you!
@@cwtek1 Well, it just renamed it. Not really removed, but windows repairs it in around one week, so it's not "permanent damage". Also not permanent fix. Probably part of windows update is to verify windows files and it puts the edge executable back. And i did not see any problems on using windows market or other menus so it seems it kinda one of those lies to force edge saying edge is essential component of windows.
I got the icon back and can launch ie but it still instantly closes and opens Edge

@@cwtek1 I did, and it worked in a way; it allowed me to have the icon, and it allows the program to launch. But it nearly instantly closes iE and opens Edge.
Now if we could just learn how to Uninstall Microsoft Edge. Edge is using learning to over time intercepts my I.E. links and so I actually have to type in the website URL that I want to visit. We'll see how long it takes for Edge to start intercepting stuff that I type in...😢
Its work but the pages need open with java cannot open and i already instaled java on my pc.. so i dont know what to do in that case.
I must admit I haven't tried with Java yet, make sure you have downloaded Version 8 Update 361 www.java.com/en/download/windows_offline.jsp you can get it from here.

Edge continues to steal any URL I put in my newly spawned IE window. Thanks for trying.
I am sorry to hear that, perhaps try turning off all extensions in IE, click the cog (Top Right) then Manage Addons, make sure you turn off all addons if you can.
This does not work anymore. Oct 2023 zapped IE completely 😞

I hate our CCTV even exported video file is absolute proprietary codec unplayable anywhere you can't convert it you can't do anything with it outside CCTV software.
I have to export mine from the computer as an AVI file it then seems to play!

I am sorry to hear that I wasn’t aware they had stopped support for Visual Basic scripts. Try restarting your computer actually click restart do not click shutdown. Then try again.
