It was cherry blossom design 🌸 My older cousin visited and asked my mom for it, and off it went I loved it, now I know how it’s made, when I get another I shall treasure it well and my cousin isn’t getting near it lol 😅
I remember my grandmother had one of these. It wasn't so brightly painted, it was more a raw finish, but more or less similar in design and function. Now I finally know how they're made.

Glad I stumbled on this. I have a bamboo brolly like this hanging open below my ceiling. My step grandmother was a missionary in China & used it. It has flowers & peacocks painted on it. It is over a 100 years old. Very much the same design as in this video, but without the coloured thread work - which must have made this design stronger. I read somewhere that a town in China specialised in making these articles.
Such simple materials, and he made it so complex and elegant. Especially the string on the inside! Like he didn't have to go that hard, but he did and it's gorgeous
