Today I am going through spring 2024 fashion trends I will not be buying this season! Some I absolutely love, but I just know I won't wear and others I actually already own and I am putting a ban on me buying anymore of it! This year I really want to take a step back with what I thrift and just try to be more mindful and also I think tackle some shopping habits that have caused me to accumulate pieces I just never wear.

PLEASE keep doing these Anti-hauls. For those of us trying not to buy stuff, seeing people talk about why they're NOT buying something is so so helpful and relatable whereas social media seems to be full of people telling everyone to RUN AND BUY IT NOW

I’m SO happy that people in the alternative subcultures are far more accepting when it comes to ‘wearing stuff that’s out of trend’. Wear whatever you want! Life is too short on this tiny ball floating in space to care about if people will judge you because you aren’t wearing stuff that’s trendy! (Also loving this collar look, it’s so cute)

    • @victoriab7148
      @victoriab7148 4 месяца назад +14

Yes! I actually love it when people wear "outdated" items, especially styled in cool ways. Shows that they care much more about personal style and self-expression than societal standards. Ironically, for me one of the things that make you "instantly stylish" is wearing an out of trend piece and not caring.

I love wearing stuff that’s out of trend because I don’t wanna match everyone 💀 but also, I sweeeaaaat some things I wore a few years back are suddenly in style now!!! I feel like I had something to do with it even though I’m a nobody 😩

Those of us who wear stuff out of trend are actually setting the trend. We're individuals who don't want to look like everybody else. We march to the beat of a different drummer. (Jan Griffiths).@@casswashwash1070

I think what makes other people look so stylish most of the time is that they are wearing silhouettes and colors and patterns and textures that *work for them* and their bodies. And that’s why they look cool. And then we get influenced to try the same things but they may not work for us and our shapes and our bodies and that’s OKAYYYYY! Half the battle is just figuring out what feels good on and feels like you! (Hopefully before purchasing and regretting to save some pennies lol)

The mesh ballet flats remind me of mesh chinese slippers that were popular for a while in the 2000s. They'd fall apart so quickly, so I don't think it will be a long lasting trend, just because of that.

What you said about the polo shirts reminding you of private school is me but with a different clothing piece. I went to a private school from 2nd to 6th grade where the uniform for girls (among other things that I'm probably forgetting) was a light blue polo shirt, a navy cardigan, and a green plaid skirt. I have unpleasant memories of that school for several reasons, one of which was getting bullied, so now I consciously avoid wearing clothing that resembles my old uniform. For me, the main thing I avoid is wearing plaid, especially plaid skirts. However, I do own two plaid pieces: one of them is a pink button up top and the other is a pair of red plaid shorts; but I don't have the same association with them to private school because they are A) not blue or green. and B) not skirts.

Yes to buying less and not buying into trends because they are trends! I love videos where people go thrifting and buy nothing necessarily but show how much they found. I agree that it's important to showcase you can find trendy items second hand! And I love seeing the stuff you show in videos to just show you found them at the thrift store.

    • @nitzeart
      @nitzeart 4 месяца назад +4

Omg exactly! No support or practicality at all. Like when I go out I usually walk a lot, so ballet flats are terrible for that. They also usually made of synthetic materials so they're super sweaty shoes.

  • @sunflowerdayze

I definitely don't prefer the camo trend or the gray😭 but you're so right about florals honestly! I think it depends on the size and color of the flowers that makes a big difference for if it looks good? The sailor vibes/nautical vibes and ballet flats, and grey, are all literally late 2000's trends etc. Like, if people like it and wanna wear it, go for it! But it's so predictable always going for like 15-20 yr cycles. I also do not love ballet flats, they're also kind of super uncomfortable and they don't last at all.

Camo (specifically that real tree type) being a trend in LA is so funny, because I’m pretty sure most of those people despise the people who actually wear that stuff on a regular basis 💀 I live in Florida and that’s just being a redneck. For how much I’ve tried to not be a Florida redneck, I don’t know if I could soundly wear camo and feel good about it.

I have been loving your content recently! Sometimes I get obsessed with wanting things that are trendy or fashionable when watching fashion videos and I feel like the way you have been approaching things recently has been so refreshing and making me realize I don’t need to follow these trends!! And if I want to it’s can be easy to accomplish by just thrifting (I just got a pair of jeans from the thrift with the same silhouette as those free people ones for like 5 dollars!)
Also I find it crazy that mesh and leopard print are coming back in style again because I feel like I remember these things being popular just a couple years ago in the late 2010s???? I still have a mesh shirt from when I was still going to raves right before the pandemic and a leopard fur jacket I got in 2018 bc it felt trendy back then! So wild how fast things come back into style.

I took similar steps and always ask myself if the item I'm about to buy serves a new purpose in my wardrobe and if so what would I wear it with, and where would I wear it. Great video! You shouldn't worry about re-wearing things, I personally love to see youtubers re-wear clothes rather than having new things in every video. The sailor collars and mesh ballet flats feel like microtrends that will come and go before we know it, so I think it's safe to skip those. Those shoes will be fallen apart anyways, they look like very wasteful, "disposable" shoes.

Hi Alexa, thank you for another interesting fashion video. May I suggest thinking about trends in another way, I have loved fashion all my life, I was nominated "most fashion conscious" in my high school yearbook by vote from everyone in my year. I got really sick in 2018 until only the end of 2022 and I couldn't wear and style clothes and outfits because of this, it honestly felt like I lost part of myself during this time, which reinforced the lesson of never denying yourself anything, being grateful of all the choices and options we have and truly embracing variety. If a trend doesn't work out for you, just shrug your shoulders and say, "oh well at least I tried it" and move on to the next. We never know what is going to happen and life throws us some unexpected stuff sometimes. Love always Clare from the UK.

I went through a phase of loving clutches. It was actually weirdly freeing on my work commute as I didn't feel the weight of my "pack mule" bag LOL. Every once and a while I would wear it to work. So no water bottle, no lunch bag, no other random stuff in my "kitchen sink" work bag. Only the basic needs in my clutch It was strange at first but fun.

The FP barrel jeans are the dupes for the Citizens of Humanity Horseshoe jeans. Which are honestly incredible. I managed to get a pair of the COH ones used for cheaper than the FP ones retail for and I actually need them in several colors now. The FP ones are a good dupe too, I tried them on to compare.

3:09 it would be so cool if you could talk about shoe shopping and fallen arches
I struggle a lot with it and theres not enough people talking about trendy and comfortable shoes

I have the opposite issue, i have high arches so my heels lift up in every pair of shoes and im prone to "numb" toes. Anyhoo, get orthotics! Go to a podiatrist and get some perscription orthotic insoles. Game changerrr for me. Other than some pretty outing heels worth suffering for, i just switch out the insole in what im wearing that day and theyre good.

Yes!!! Flat foot girlie here too. I struggle with finding comfy shoes so much I hate shoe shopping and only wear like 2-3 pairs of shoes til they’re worn out and then replace them when th r a t same thing.

@@daniellekirsch5402omg, I have super high arches and get the numb toes too!! Ballet flats are the worst for high arches! I wore them to heck in the early 2000's, like all day for work. So dumb.

I’m so glad you said you don’t like ballet flats. I could tell when you styled them you just weren’t into it. I will also say that I always thought the outfits would be way cuter with a different shoe. It’s fine if there’s a trend you don’t partake in! Not all trends are for everyone and that’s fine. I would rather you just not do a video styling something than buying it and trying desperately to style it.

I agree with you about the barrel jeans. I just don't understand the fascination. But if someone likes to wear something and it makes them feel good then they should definitely wear it. 13:00

Ballet Flats maybe for walking around the house or just lounging. U always seem happier in boots. Polo shirts on Alexa... Maybe not. As far as the color grey it reminds me of Hunger Games but i guess it may work on some people. Frill collars look cool on u. Yer room decorations r nice and room looks sunshiney 🌞 . Where is Salem and other 🐱 ? They r probably clawing on something 😂. Great Spring ideas!

Depending on the strength of your prescription, places like Zenni are a great place to get a cheap pair of prescription small frame glasses just to try out. I wanted to try the trend for myself personally because I too am a super oversized frame girly and I picked up a pair on Zenni for literally $7 with prescription. I don't wear them that often, but they're a fun option to have 👍🏻

Quick loose notes: sailor collar?? OMG FINALLY a collar for me! I have a doll face and the sweet frilly collar makes me look so sweet one could vomit.
Fringe: I love the idea of fringe but I can't see myself in any version of the execution.
Office core: I'm a Polish kid raised in the 90s so my top 1 association of this style is a 90s Lipton tea TV commercial with office workers (🎼Lipton Tea tastes like success🎶) and there was a plane in it as well? It was aired ALL. THE. TIME. and it was responsible for 90% of my image of America at that time (the remaining 10% were the commercial for Mentos the Freshmaker)

I also have size 9 feet and it’s why I don’t love ballet flats either. I can only do them when I wear my full midi length skirts because I feel like the skirt draws the attention away from it and make my feet look smaller. But I can’t do it with anything else!

Before my kids I would wear different types of bags but now I need the strap. I need less things to worry about. I feel that a bag is more about function for you, which is fine. Also I love when someone loves the clothes and I always feel happier after watching your videos.

Sooooo agree about clutches! I always wondered who genuinely wants those. Imagine going to the club with a clutch. You'd just spend all night holding the darn thing. Imagine being a few drinks in. You would lose or just forget where you left in in a heartbeat. Imagine not losing it on a night out and how dirty it will be from being touched all night by hands that are covered in sweat (and in my partying days probably various types of liquor). Like why?

Don't buy the stomp clog! As a girl who started with 1 pair of crocs, I now own 6 pairs and 3 different versions of platform crocs. They are addicting and very comfy and extremely easy to walk in. One pair will not be enough! Love seeing these types of videos, helps me evaluate what I just like and what I actually want to buy! :)

As someone who loves private school fashion i find a polo short to be a very infuriating item. It looks cute but the usually rough fabric and cinched in sleeves are so uncomfortable on my body that I never buy one :/
Also Alexa your natural hair color suits you so much!!
