If you want to understand please watch the video. There is nothing wrong with Shea Moisture expanding their brand and catering to a wider demographic, but my point is that they should not alienate their core supporters (which are African American consumers). Representation matters. This is all
So, you agree with Shea reaching out for white customers long as they do it with at least some requisite number of black models. Hey, if those white people can't see black hair and just IMAGINE their own, let 'em go buy some other product. (And once againthe world gets just a little stupider.)
The first half of your statement is right...but the second half is not. Shea Moisture products work for differently for different hair textures. If they want to expand they have to be strategic and create a separate line for straighter hair textures. This is what Dove, Granier Fructis, Loreal, Pantene, and other major hair/body brands do. They make a separate line geared to curly/coily textured hair. However in their main commercials they showcase mostly white women...because white/non-black women are their main consumers. It wouldn't make sense to showcase mostly black models if their market caters to white/non-black women. Do you get it now? I know since the world is getting "stupider" its hard for people to comprehend things. Most White/non-black people won't support anything that they're not represented in...so why is it hard to understand why black women are upset that they are not represented by company that they heavily support? As a black owned company, Shea Moisture has to show an extensive range of diversity in their commercial to accommodate all potential consumers. But I'm just wasting energy typing this because I know you wouldn't understand.
And not only that but the mixed girl shown in the video (Sariya Jade) just recently got exposed for her racist and colorist tweets... so that just makes this commercial even more worse than it already is for even having someone like that represent this.😒
GOOD. BYE. SHAE MOISTURE AND GOOD RIDDANCE !!! I DON'T GIVE A RAT'S PATUTTIE WHO SHAE MOISTURE MAKE HAIR PRODUCTS FOR..... THE PROBLEM IS KEEPING IT REAL WITH YOUR SUPPORTERS FOR ALL THE YEARS THEY HAVE SUPPORTED YOU. WE WILL PLACE MY LOYALTY. AND. OUR THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS SOMEWHERE ELSE !!!! INGREDIENTS. ARE. KEY !!!!!!
@@Empressive I JUST SAY GOODBYE TO SHAE MOISTURE. AND YOU ARE ON POINT. SO MANY WHO NEVER PAID ATTENTION TO US , EVEN BEFORE SHAE MOISTURE WANTS A PIECE OF NATURAL HAIR COMMUNITY MONEY . AND THAT'S ALL. $$$$ $$$$$ $$$$ $$$$ $$$$$.... 5 GENERATIONS OF MY FAMILY USED TO USE THIS BRAND. BUT, NO LONGER
I FEEL like Shea Moisture invited me to help them host a beautiful dinner party. I was honored to feel so treasured and important! So I helped buy all the products necessary to make this party the biggest and best ever! I helped set up the tables and chairs, picked out the best decorations, and even helped prepared the meal. I went out in the streets and proudly spread the word of our amazing dinner party. Then, when I returned in my finest ball gown, I was no longer allowed in the party. SM never wanted me as a host, just as " the help". I never even had a seat at the table...
This commercial was very disappointing... I understand they want to broaden there target audience, but they could've including 1 white woman that actually had very curly hair (they exits) and had mostly black women showing all the different types of natural curly hair. I am white and Lebanese and my daughter is half African American. I think I have 3a/3b hair and she has 4a/4b. We both use products for naturally curly hair and to see this company target to people who don't even have curly hair is very sad. This company needs to continue to embrace the women that supported them.
That's a great point. The commercial didn't even show women with different types of curly/coily hair. This is why I say representation matters. Thanks for commenting
" white women" with curly hair exist. Well, most of us are at least mixed with something.... I'm Greek and I have curly hair. Wish I found their products sooner, would have saved me lots of ripped out hair.
have a white woman been fired? discriminated against this AD was bull shit!! now all of a sudden they hated their hair 🙄 I been stop buying their products because it became shitty and this explains why
Todayisagooddayforagoodday Lou no, they asked why a white woman would use shampoo and conditioners specifically MADE for natural (3c, 4a, 4b, 4c) hair.
well, I am multiracial my hair looks like European hair but it's very very thick so white products can't provide the moisture & dry it out. In my opinion, the Latin community is still very confused so they tend to use too many chemicals that give the illusion that they moisturize the hair (silicones) but in the long term dry it out. So as a Caribbean/Latin woman, I decided to try out natural hair products that are more natural ;) BUT it's tricky because some products are too heavy for my hair until I found shea moisture. Shea moisture can help white women with chemically damaged hair which is kinda what my hair regular hair feels like when I use white people's products.
There are white people with curly hair aswell. I love that the company is branded towards black people, but it works well on my hair texture aswell, eventhough im white, therefor I use it. (I'm from northern Europe)
I'll respectfully disagree with you about Pantene never caring about black women. While black women have never been the sole focus, they have had a niche market for them for around fifteen years. Pantene's Relaxed and Natural product line has been available since 2001, at least. How Pantene went about this is exactly what Shea Moisture should have done. Create a line for finer/straighter hair and market specifically to them; NOT forget your core base in the chase for the almighty dollar. Other than that, I agree wholeheartedly with your video.
I am revistibg this topic and I agree what you said is very true. I almost forgot about the Pantene relaxed hair care line. Whenever a family friend would care for my hair when it was relaxed way back they used that line. Yes, wholeheartedly agree with you.
Fact: While transitioning Shea Moisture products worked perfectly for my 4C coils, however, my second purchase of the coconut hibiscus line left a lot to be desired. I even contacted them and was told each batch was different. The second purchase of the coconut hibiscus curl enhancing smoothie was so watery unlike the the first batch which was thick and creamy. Needless to say it did not work for me. I returned it. Something definitely changed. I also realize the hair changes so it's a matter of finding what works for you. I had to say goodbye to Shea Moisture products.
I don't think it's by accident that the natural hair movement revolves around biracial curly hair 3a 3b 3c. Black women gotta stop including biracial women as black cause they end up being their representatives .Black women do their thing n biracials do their own thing based on unique differences n needs. They can come together but only based on similarities n common goals
um excuse me, so let's just discriminate against the same woman who already get treated that way not just by white people but now black people. I'm sick of people bitching at black women who's hair isn't as tightly curled as someone with 4c as if 4c hair should be the spokes hair type. understand that black as a race has many different textures and 4c makes up a small percentage. also any products that work on 3c hair should work for 4c. in the eyes of the world it doesn't matter how you categorize it, it's all nappy
Youre full of shit. How can you not consider someone black if they’re PART black? Just because they’re not 100% black does not be that they’re still not black. It’s stupid people like you who discriminate against bi/multi-racial people that is causing the problem. Shut up and go to bed.
Mango Tree ummm hold up so u want us to exclude biracial people with half of OUR culture because of how people include us all NO what needs to happen is society (WHITE PPL) need to understand or at least try to u can not exclude a race because of what society thinks of them. Sis that’s how racism began
But these products were never made for afro textured hair anyway. The natural hair movement was for biracials. Black women need to open their eyes and realize that is who they targeted. If they targeted REAL black women most of the women represented would have 4a, 4b or 4c hair texture. Miss me with the "oh well what about 3c 3b" Ok just because a FEW(probably 30% or less) black women have this hair texture which is WAY more common among BIRACIALS, doesn't mean that it is the MAJORITY of black women. Black representation means what the MAJORITY has or the ORIGINS of the people. THis is why me as a brown skin woman, HIGHLY supports DARK skin women as being standard of black beauty. Because the origins of our people come from Africa and they are very DARK people.
+Black To Grace well DUH I'm not consider dark by black people and my entire family is light skin, idiot. Of course I know that. +Rudy Blood Moon, news flash the black women that DID promote the line had BIRACIAL TYPE HAIR(type 3 OR on occasions 4a) they didn't have the hair texture that MAJORITY of black women have (which is 4b/4c hair). ERGO since MAJORITY of biracials have (type 3 and 4a hair) then it was FOR THEM. You need to reread my statement again. Like I said the these "natural hair products" dont target black women. It never did. MOST of these natural hair products are actually for biracials, that is why I've NEVER endorsed or supported any. I might buy a few only if it worked(for my purpose) and MOST advertise biracial type hair (RARELY a 4a texture). But I NEVER followed the directions on the labels because they usually didn't work when I followed what it was meant to be used for. And for those type 4b/4c textures that say "well it worked for me" you probably had short hair. Because it def doesn't work for long hair of that same texture(following THEIR directions for use) unless you manipulate it to your liking. Lastly you can buy oils that do a lot of the same things these natural products claim to do. That is why I don't really endorse them too much. Because they are expensive and I know going in, it's not meant for my hair type.
I decided a couple of years ago NOT to buy any black hair products marketed by white- owned companies (like Pantene or Salon Selectives as an example), only from black owned, run controlled companies for all the reasons that she listed in this video.
First of all, pantene has had a line for African American hair for over 10 years. Know your facts! I am glad to be included by these companies. Stope the complaining. Anything sold in america is for profit, not charity.
@@phantompage4304 A lot of women and men from the motherland have loose textured hair ranging from 3c-4a. There are no *black* people with 2c hair, a black person will have up to 3c. Only mixed have 2c hair.
I have blonde hair and blue eyes (german descent), but my hair is extremely course & straight. Tried getting perms when younger which were frizz disasters! Had a coupon for a new salon and didn't know it was primarily for black girls so kept my appt. and apologized thinking they wouldn't perm my hair. Was told by the hairdresser, my hair was similar texture to black hair and she could do my perm. Best perm I ever had!!! Continued to go there for years till they moved. I felt like this commercial described people like me perfectly - I never would have thought to try this product on my hair until after I saw this commercial - Different hair types need different products - There is no "normal"!
Personally, I have straight hair 1C. But it is very dry and I find Shea Moisture helps keep my hair frizz free and more smoother. I agree that Shea Moisture should give black women more representation.
all you people on here talking about racist black people complaining. i will not buy vo5 garnier treseme etc. cause i am yet to see a natural kinky hair person on there ads like myself. there is not a product line in there called black kinks so i dont use it. shea moisture marketed itself as the brand for the kinky coily curly hair, then have the people with the straightest hair on the face of it and there formulas begin to not work as well as it used to, thats the problem, straoght hair and kinky hair are at the opposite ends of the spectrum that needs opposite care. shea moisture cannot possibly telling me what works in becky hair will work with my kinky hair. so have several seats.
The younger me would have gone “It is just a commercial!” The older and wiser me, now understands why there was so much disappointment about this commercial. I am Black, a West African with my life spent more on Europe than not, understanding the history behind hair, colorism as it relates to slavery albeit, academically, gave me an illuminating perspective. Ladies, you have every right to speak, protest and voicing out your displeasure. Shalom!
The owner may have approved the series of commercials but it's the Advertising Agency who distributes the commercials how they see fit. This time backlash occurred which is actually a positive event. It shows companies that the Black dollar has a voice and it shows the Black consumer, we have voice. A choice. Money talks. What happen to Shea Moisture is history repeating itself. If you dig into the economic history of Black america, you can see the pattern. Expand, grow, reach out and make your money and support your own. That's what all nationalities do.....support their own while expanding........supports their own while growing....
Your video wasn't all over the place it was informative you explained everything nicely. I never saw the very first Shea Moisture video now I see why majority of my sisters are angry they feel betrayed. My first conditioner was Jane Carter I found her in Whole Foods than I found my favorite Miss Jessie's which I never let go. One of my staff members told me about Shea Moisture the one I use is the Jamaican Castro Oil Shampoo etc. I didn't know it was a brother who owned the products now I understand. Shalom!
There are Asian women who looked to Black women and their brands and grew to love their own curly or thick hair. There are so many routes they could take this. it's so narrow minded.
Lioness Beloved How are they going to explain this one. For real? This was too blatant. You made 700 million off of nappy headed black women to now switch it up? Hell to the naw!!
I've used pantene before and they have had a line for black hair with the brown bottle. I do agree we should support our black businesses. They were very wrong for letting someone come in and change their campaign.
Next month, I would be natural for a year, and it's been a true journey, and once I did the big chop, I was in love, in love with my natural hair that God himself gave me, in love with being a black women, JUST TRULY IN LOVE WITH MY ESSENCE!!!! Seeing other races represent the products that''s designed for me, and women like me sends the message that i'm just like any other women, and my hair as well, and that's so not true!! I'm beautiful, black, and natural without permission!!!!! #CAUSE I DON'T NEED PERMISSION.
I used to use Shea Moisture, but to me the products weren't really consistent with what i wanted my hair to look like or my hair was taking to the products consistently. I use Camille Rose now and it works wonders for my hair. I've used Camille Rose for years now and they have always stayed consistent in how your hair will look like, moisture, growth in my edges, anti-breakage, etc. Not trying to discourage anyone from using Shea Moisture, I'm just speaking from a place where Camille Rose works for me and we should all use what works for us that is good for our hair.
You better ask Carols Daughter........ and for the straight look, my FB time line is filled with "before and after" as if saying "look, my hair was nappy and ugly" and after silky silky, beautiful hair and the person is smiling. Personally I didn't see anything wrong with the before pic
If you remember, When MIT Romney was running for Pres. he was associated with Bain Capital Co. That corporation bought out companies, especially steel companies. But if you research it, all the companies usually went out of business. There were some toy companies they purchased that are now no longer in business.
This is what I've concluded so far in this video. I'm 2:55 in and this is what I've caught. You are saying the Shea Moisture commercial is controversial because they did not represent black women. Yet, Pantene Gold has a commercial with only black women and it's a problem because "they don't really care about our hair, they just want our money." I'm sorry, but that doesn't make any sense to me! That's controversial in itself. Regardless of who owns what brand, it's all about business and making money. Yes, the owner of Shea Moisture is black, but why does that mean he can only make products susceptible for black people? He can expand his business to fit EVERY race and nationality because his brand is NOT about color, it's about HAIR. We need to stop being so butt hurt about every little thing and just look at it for what it is.
When done right most products geared towards black hair is not suitable for Caucasian hair. Too greasy too heavy. Shea Moisture problem is that they have been slowly changing the formulation of their products using the same color coded labels we know and trust and denying it. Shea Moisture is no longer a trustworthy brand even before the commercials they were trying to get over on us. I just bought two of the “SAME” product. Buy one get one 50% off. They looked different they worked different.
@@georgiafain3747 Yes, people were lying to themselves on this topic. The perfect response, not only about representation but about the formula. I was feeling nostalgic about when I used to use the coconut curl enhancing smoothie and other products of that line so I came back to this video. I still cannot get over the disappointment in their ingredients when I saw alcohol being the number one. They should have made a seleate line for white people and not change the ingredients, smdh.
They all represent the dollar signs. I’m not impressed. I make my own, so much research, recipes, forums, community out there for this. Also another important thing to research is the ingredients in these products, they are not healthy and are toxic to your health
why is there white women with straight hair? shea moisture is for textured hair, at least include a white woman with curly hair. plus their brand is targeted towards POC, and there is only one black woman, and she has looser curls.
You made some excellent points. It's not easy for us. I remember a time as a young black woman I wasn't even excepted by some of my own people for whatever reason they found. They couldn't face me and tell me straight out. Of course, I was hurt but I realized later on that I could care less about what others think of me or my hair.
great video. I will definitely be supporting my sisters and purchase their products. These heathens have been exploiting us for too long and I'm sick of it. I rather spend my hard earn money with my people. I really wish that there were more black businesses to support. Shalom
As a Jewish girl with ridiculous uncontrollable hair (for a white girl it is i mean), I love Shea moisture because if the ingredients but I’m really glad this video was made because I’ve never seen this commercial or anything else from them and people of color deserve to have as many options for specialized hair care as anyone else
Basically what I noticed and I look at the ingredients is that ingredients that have the the ingredients that ethnic women use in their hair that the sum of the product lines of that company change the ingredients to make it useful for Caucasian women and for women who have mix secure hair texture or milk mix silkier your wavy hair for me for me I do not use shea moisture because it has shea butter in it and some of it in the products have Argan Oil I don't use shea butter or oil because shea butter and Argan Oil which is my hair dries my hair out burns my hair so I don't lose it I tried products I had those ingredients in it and I won't use that ever again parts that I used I've noticed also they change their products they change their product also because I used to use in my hair when did you started putting shea butter and Argan Oil same ingredients that Indian people put in their hair which is coconut oil coconut cocoa butter tea tree oil Rosemary hibiscus ,jojoba oil, silk amino acid And what happened when I noticed that the product change in the ingredients I explain to them I said why did you put argan oil and Shea butter into the product when I when I bought this product I used it because it had ingredients that my hair likes my hair does not like shea butter for hair doesn't like Argan Oil I tried shea butter or go and talk before to see if they work they work and I know this my hair doesn't like it it makes my hair dry itchy and burn and then when I told them they said okay we will change it to accommodate you this and stuff like that that it it seemed like they didn't accommodate accommodate me that's why I ended up sticking to organic root stimulator product because they never change what they did was like okay they started to do products for ethnic people are those who can have shea butter and Argan Oil if they choose to so they separate the product but they keep it under the that's why it's sad that a lot of ethnic products are changed their ingredients and not accommodating so you know what we're going to separate a makeup product for those two used car part of a company hair care products and keep the same ingredients and for others who have those ingredients in their hair and the hair doesn't like it we're going to accommodate them so two people can be be have satisfied but not a lot of companies do that because they are hiring. They're hiring Caucasian females or females with silky hair wavy texture hair which is not fair because they don't know if Knick hair at all so when we complain to them and let them know how we feel they take they don't take any initiative to care and change it and this has to stop Lucy and they're going to wonder why their party is going to be like just is going to be like products that used to be used to be out and they going to be cancelled for good and all stores and the only stores are going to sell those products continuously is eBay Amazon any stores that goes to know Beauty Supply Store companies or hair store companies are going to sell them again or beauty supply stores that you go to your local beauty supply stores or or pharmacy stores or like Target and Walmart and Kmart stores like that are going to continue selling it and you know what's going to happen they have a lot of people either start making their own homemade hair care products new different hair care products because now a lot of females that do hair or female that sell hair are starting to make hair care products for all ethnic female so it has to end this is ridiculous
the first girl is sariya jade and she has curly hair. , SECOND who fucking cares not only dark skin people have curly hair latin americans , white , and black as well as many other races have curly hair, im dark and i dont have "afro centric" hair thats 4c type hair i have thick curly actual coils , and i have a white friend who has thick and i mean thick curly coily kiny hair , and i have white friend as well as mexicans that use oils lile coconut oil and olive oil on thier hair. natural hair means the hair you were born with weather it be straight, curly , kinky, coily, thin , frizzy or whatever its all natural and all should be accepted.
Black woman arent the only ones with curley hair. Im half swedish and half croatian (former yugoslavia) i have 2b hair. But many of my familymembers who are 100% croatian have 3A, 3B hair
after watching this video I understand both standpoint of the consumer and of the company. I understand the company wants to expand to different types of textured hair and not just one textured hair I get that. and I also understand why the consumer which are mainly black women would be so upset behind the commercial. with all that being said at least SheaMoisture did Keep a very professional standpoint about the controversial commercial which I appreciate you don't get that a lot with black owned businesses or businesses. By keeping it very professional. great video.
I am trying out Shea Moisture because of head and shoulders ruined my scalp & less hair. I hope it is better than head and shoulders but I heard many complaints about them. Is it even safe for straight hair??
Yep...they've made it "safe" for straight hair while also ruining it for those of us with natural hair from 3c-4c. Since they have added alcohol to accommodate for others, yes it should work well for your hair.
Exactly they apologized. We opened their eyes to what was being viewed and depicted in this video🙌🏽. I also do not agree with changing ingredients in regularly bought and loved products to better suit straight hair types. This is absolutely wrong and so counterproductive on shea moistures part🤦🏽♀️. Make a straight line if you want to diversitize. However let's not turn our backs on all the good Shea Moisture has done for our community and many hair types. Shea moisture made me love my curly lil bi racial fro for the very first time. Also this video brought to my attention after reading the reactions... that people arnt showing any love or appreciation to the lighter skinned black girl for being in this video. Well I see you girl, thanks for depicting me. We come in all shades of skin and curl patterns in our community. To be mad at seeing the light skinned black girl is like saying her color and ethnicity is erlavent in the black community. To me this is a form of racisim and hatred in itself. Not only would I have loved to see tighter kinkier curl patterns and more verity of skin tones I would have valued the company more so. This video felt strange and kinda made no scense lol. I too feel like they fu#ked this one up and I hope they get it right from this point on.
what really bothers me is that so many women feel excluded because that darker skinned woman in the ad is not one of you. so is she white? white women wouldn't think so. so what is she? the only people who exclude somebody are those bashing this ad you make yourselves something different, something special. you're not. I understand that this brand may be really helpful for super curly hair, I honestly don't know a lot about that.
Happy Highlighter The fact that you know nothing about curly hair shows you are ignorant to this subject and have no say because you have no experience. The thing is straight haired people cannot use the same products as curly haired people. Our hair textures are very distinct. And trying to make products that work for both straight and curly hair, never works. They should have make a separate hair line, for straight haired people. And kept the curly haired people on the curly hair lines.
This is old but I do wanna say I'm the only woman I know who is "white" (portuguese, Irish & french) with straight/wavy fine hair and use Shea Moisture. They have the best ingredients, one of my top 3 brands to use based on results. I have low thyroid and my hair gets very dry all year round. I love to support all races and ethinicities, I love people, period. I love the Frizz Defense, Superfruit Complex, and Fruit Fusion lines. Always will buy it. Some black women don't like that white women use it, they like to keep things exclusive to them and others dont mind but are understandably offended and disappointed that they aren't represented enough in the commercials and social media marketing. What I don't respect is when black women hate on white women for using it when it works for them. We're not trying to fit in with the ethnic hair community, we just want great products. I'm surprised white women make up most of their sales though because they are affordable and high quality. They are everywhere now. Most black women must be using a better brand or homemade stuff. God bless you all and like if you agree!
I don't think it was that big of a deal I mean the line is for black women however if I tried every product and nothing works and this does I'm going to use it... also I'm going to expand my audience which is important... on top of that yall get mad when the white brands don't use blacks which is dumb smh
It seems Everyone has to walk on "Egg Shells" with the black community, Or Else. Shea Moisture is only trying to do what EVERY Business aspires to accomplish, Turn Profit and Expand Market Base. Why is it that a black owned company can not expand their expertise to include more "Diverse" hair needs? This backlash is no more than Trivial and a form of Bullying.
It's not the inclusion part that people are annoyed about, it's the total disregard of their main demographic (black women). They claim inclusion but did not put one black woman in their advertisement, it doesn't make sense. Also they have progressively changed the formula on their products so that it no longer works on the hair that they initially targeted their products towards.
repinghana, if what you say about the formula being changed is true (I'm not doubting you, I just have not heard that) then I can certainly understand, but it seems, at face value, that Shea Moisture was just trying to, not disregard their loyal customers, but try to bring in other customers. Also, I thought for sure the very first girl in the video was black. Am I wrong?
i think it was how they went about doing it is what is causing the issue, i do have to agree that the commercial should have had a bit more variety in it. i have been using shea moisture skincare and hair care prodicts since my early teens because they have cleaner ingredients and are fair trade for the most part but i can see why people dislike this commercial.
This is incredibly racist. Representation? Just buy what works for you! Why do you care so much about who is in the commercial. Capitalism only sees green. They will OF COURSE try to cater to a larger audience. Does that make them alienate their core audience? Hell no! Wake up!
J DeLuca This isn't racist. "Just buy what works for you!"? You must be white, because the industry for hair is mainly for European hair or straight hair. Curly hair, isn't the same as straight hair. And we cannot use the same products. But there are only few product lines out there that work for curly hair. The reason we care about who is in this commercial, is because this company used to appeal to kinky curly hair, but having actual straight haired women represent what the product works on is not ok. Especially when they are not saying that there's a new separate line for straight hair.
Fashion affects everyone, every race. The media portray a canon of beauty that changes our posture. Lots of white women have naturally curly hair and afro too! As women usually have, they want to change something in their beauty. women with naturally straight hair buy curlers and stylize them every morning. They are women who love their natural beauty and emphasize it and do not change it. It's a matter of personal taste and do not make up any other theories from the sky. Many white women make dreadlocks, African braids, "durable" at the hairdresser, to have afro, blondes dye their hair black, and black's heads dye their heads to blonde. How many women go to a solarium, buy bronzes etc. because they do not like their light skin and do everything to have brown? Every single woman finds her ideal of beauty to which she wants to become more like. Is it something bad that other races inspire each other?
You are wrong. That people with dark skin color are not everywhere (because it is not possible) does not mean that they are discriminated against. Products in stores are not intended for "white people" hair only. It is written for: dry, damaged, dyed, brittle, blond etc.The fact that the product isn't fulfilling manufacturer's promises does not mean that it is created for a different type of hair. In spite of the fact that I am constantly changing products looking for a "golden mean" for my hair, I still have not found one that would make my hair look good enough to me. It's horrible how you radicalize yourselves just because of companies or the media, whose obvious goal is only profit, no matter what skin color you have. The fact that in any one advertisment you can not put every "race": Slav, American, Eskimo, Arab, Indica, Latin, Afro American ... etc. does not mean that this brand discriminates. I want to point out, recently what I notice that only companies for black women are elitist and have the audacity to write "for Black people" which is tight and hamish TOO OTHER RACES, others do not write such things "for white people", "for arabs", "for eastern asians "on cosmetics and love to share on blogs, YT... their secret, traditional, beauty remedies with other races. You do not notice that this is racism! That there is an affair that a given brand has developed and offers theirs services also for a different type of beauty and not only for "black people", that was only for you and you hate that change terrible! Racism goes both ways! I can not imagine a similar scandal on the part of white people. You would immediately bear something like this for legal consequences. It's hypocrisy. Unfortunately, if we are white people the law against racism does not protect you as much as you. I'm white, I don't mind black people or other becsuse of their look, skin colour, but I hate racism. 😢
OMG!!! It's not that deep Jesus Christ. Yes black women have had to straighten their hair to feel accepted, Yes they did it because they had to deal with hair hate. Shea moisture gets that and white women too deal with hair hair it definitely is not as bad a black women's but you guys just keep deliberately missing the message. IRREGARDLESS OF YOUR HAIR COLOUR, TEXTURE, TYPE OR YOUR RACE WE SHEA MOISTURE HAVE GOT YOUR HAIR.
Eugene NeNe Shea Moisture trying to make a product that works for curly and straight hair isn't a good product. Because it isn't going to work. They changed the formula to add in straight haired people. I have tried these products, and it dried my hair out. My hair is curly mind you. I think instead of mixing the two, why not separate them. Make straight haired products, but also keep the formulas for curly haired people the same so that our hair isn't jacked up.
If you want to understand please watch the video. There is nothing wrong with Shea Moisture expanding their brand and catering to a wider demographic, but my point is that they should not alienate their core supporters (which are African American consumers). Representation matters. This is all

Shea Moisture is for textured hair... why are straight haired women included in this
I FEEL like Shea Moisture invited me to help them host a beautiful dinner party.

Damn . thats deep
Wish I found their products sooner, would have saved me lots of ripped out hair.
have a white woman been fired? discriminated against this AD was bull shit!! now all of a sudden they hated their hair 🙄 I been stop buying their products because it became shitty and this explains why
not knowing what to do with your natural hair doesn't even compare to the struggle black women go through on a daily basis with their hair.
I never even thought white women used it... what can they use it for ?? 🤔
Apology NOT accepted. I wasn't a big fan anyway.
Andrea Jackson No me either👊
I stopped buying after seeing the results changing… not the same anymore. IDK if it came back to normal but the commercial did the job for me
I'll respectfully disagree with you about Pantene never caring about black women.
Other than that, I agree wholeheartedly with your video.
girl interrupted ❤️
Mango Tree As a mixed chick this is what I'm scared of
Youre full of shit. How can you not consider someone black if they’re PART black? Just because they’re not 100% black does not be that they’re still not black. It’s stupid people like you who discriminate against bi/multi-racial people that is causing the problem. Shut up and go to bed.
Sasha K.
So if trump did a DNA test and he was 10% black, can be be called the second black president?
Mango Tree ummm hold up so u want us to exclude biracial people with half of OUR culture because of how people include us all NO what needs to happen is society (WHITE PPL) need to understand or at least try to u can not exclude a race because of what society thinks of them. Sis that’s how racism began
First carols daughter now shea moisture cancelled
KinkyCrown shea moisture is owned by a black man, so I'm not shocked by this bullshit commercial. #sheamoistureisofficiallycancelled
PrincessLeah187 xx True, bm are the biggest sell outs which is why I'm against them entering the natural community. Too many of them hate BW.
Marish Long Sources? Because I know for fact BW started this. Stop trying to erase BW. just stop.
Andrea Banks African American hair?
Dani Black different from African hair
@@phantompage4304 it's not
@@karmicobsession1636 most of it is. Most african Americans have 2c to 4a hair texture
I agree that Shea Moisture should give black women more representation.
yes preach girl.....the truth is the truth and you cant dispute it
F shea moisture I know I'm late but I'm not buying it no more
all you people on here talking about racist black people complaining. i will not buy vo5 garnier treseme etc. cause i am yet to see a natural kinky hair person on there ads like myself. there is not a product line in there called black kinks so i dont use it. shea moisture marketed itself as the brand for the kinky coily curly hair, then have the people with the straightest hair on the face of it and there formulas begin to not work as well as it used to, thats the problem, straoght hair and kinky hair are at the opposite ends of the spectrum that needs opposite care. shea moisture cannot possibly telling me what works in becky hair will work with my kinky hair. so have several seats.
Shalom!
this is an issue!! they should of used black women in this commercial!!
At the end of your 9 min. opinion I agree with your words.
Thank You.
How bloody insulting of this advert. Absolutely disrespectful!!!
There are Asian women who looked to Black women and their brands and grew to love their own curly or thick hair. There are so many routes they could take this. it's so narrow minded.
Out of order! Never really bought definitely won't now.
Warrior Queen right sis.... ESAU always want a piece of our culture
Lioness Beloved How are they going to explain this one. For real? This was too blatant. You made 700 million off of nappy headed black women to now switch it up? Hell to the naw!!
Warrior Queen paahahahaha.........
I've used pantene before and they have had a line for black hair with the brown bottle. I do agree we should support our black businesses. They were very wrong for letting someone come in and change their campaign.
I stopped buying their products right after all this mess.
I have never stood around the hair care isle to see who was purchasing Shea Moisture Products.
If it works for all hair types GREAT.
If you remember, When MIT Romney was running for Pres.
he was associated with Bain Capital Co. That corporation
bought out companies, especially steel companies. But if
you research it, all the companies usually went out of
business. There were some toy companies they purchased
that are now no longer in business.
Bianca Rivera - exactly! I'm glad Shea Moisture a black owned business is able to expand their business and make more money. It's a great product.
falou pouco, mas falou merda.
Bianca Rivera PREACH PLEASE
@@georgiafain3747 Yes, people were lying to themselves on this topic. The perfect response, not only about representation but about the formula. I was feeling nostalgic about when I used to use the coconut curl enhancing smoothie and other products of that line so I came back to this video. I still cannot get over the disappointment in their ingredients when I saw alcohol being the number one. They should have made a seleate line for white people and not change the ingredients, smdh.
Never bought it and never will am so tired of the fuckery ugh😒
he sold his shares? he's running with his moolah!!!!
For those who REALLY LIKE using their products should boycott until their products are sold for HALF PRICE! (LOL) That'll teach Shea Moisture!
EXCELLENT video! Thank you for your thoughts. :)
Wait I thought Pantene with the brown bottles were for specifically black people. Can someone inform me on this subject?
“Everybody gets love” doesn’t sound African American since when does Everyone get love? We just became our own now is it the time for inclusion
Shalom
Great video!!!! :). Thanks for sharing. I saw a few RUclips videos abt this but couldn't find the actual commercial lol, cauz the pulled it of course.
I plan to continue to use it too. Their apology was enough for me. I also love "as I am. "
but tell me why those two girls look like they starred in "White Chicks" though
Should've had a girl with 4c hair texture. I'm sure black women support them the most! If it wasn't for us they wouldn't be in business or lack
They’re products don’t even work on my hair anyways so…
Guess they should've made a ''Silver'' line of hair care products for white women lol.
As a Jewish girl with ridiculous uncontrollable hair (for a white girl it is i mean), I love Shea moisture because if the ingredients but I’m really glad this video was made because I’ve never seen this commercial or anything else from them and people of color deserve to have as many options for specialized hair care as anyone else
this video is informative and on point thank you.
Basically what I noticed and I look at the ingredients is that ingredients that have the the ingredients that ethnic women use in their hair that the sum of the product lines of that company change the ingredients to make it useful for Caucasian women and for women who have mix secure hair texture or milk mix silkier your wavy hair for me for me I do not use shea moisture because it has shea butter in it and some of it in the products have Argan Oil I don't use shea butter or oil because shea butter and Argan Oil which is my hair dries my hair out burns my hair so I don't lose it I tried products I had those ingredients in it and I won't use that ever again parts that I used I've noticed also they change their products they change their product also because I used to use in my hair when did you started putting shea butter and Argan Oil same ingredients that Indian people put in their hair which is coconut oil coconut cocoa butter tea tree oil Rosemary hibiscus ,jojoba oil, silk amino acid
And what happened when I noticed that the product change in the ingredients I explain to them I said why did you put argan oil and Shea butter into the product when I when I bought this product I used it because it had ingredients that my hair likes my hair does not like shea butter for hair doesn't like Argan Oil I tried shea butter or go and talk before to see if they work they work and I know this my hair doesn't like it it makes my hair dry itchy and burn and then when I told them they said okay we will change it to accommodate you this and stuff like that that it it seemed like they didn't accommodate accommodate me that's why I ended up sticking to organic root stimulator product because they never change what they did was like okay they started to do products for ethnic people are those who can have shea butter and Argan Oil if they choose to so they separate the product but they keep it under the that's why it's sad that a lot of ethnic products are changed their ingredients and not accommodating so you know what we're going to separate a makeup product for those two used car part of a company hair care products and keep the same ingredients and for others who have those ingredients in their hair and the hair doesn't like it we're going to accommodate them so two people can be be have satisfied but not a lot of companies do that because they are hiring.
I think it's kind of cool that the commercial picked redheads, since they've also faced a lot of discrimination throughout history.
Great video and point(s). Thank you! 👌🏿
the first girl is sariya jade and she has curly hair. , SECOND who fucking cares not only dark skin people have curly hair latin americans , white , and black as well as many other races have curly hair, im dark and i dont have "afro centric" hair thats 4c type hair i have thick curly actual coils , and i have a white friend who has thick and i mean thick curly coily kiny hair , and i have white friend as well as mexicans that use oils lile coconut oil and olive oil on thier hair. natural hair means the hair you were born with weather it be straight, curly , kinky, coily, thin , frizzy or whatever its all natural and all should be accepted.
Black woman arent the only ones with curley hair. Im half swedish and half croatian (former yugoslavia) i have 2b hair. But many of my familymembers who are 100% croatian have 3A, 3B hair
I’m scared they are going to make less lines for curly hair and Afro hair
Their products has been changed ...the product are not the same thing !
awww... you getting up there @Leah Gordone And nice video @Empressive
after watching this video I understand both standpoint of the consumer and of the company.
Shea Moisture made a mistake. I will definitely still use them!
what a bull ##$! apology! they should have put a 4c African American in that video. yasss! when it comes to money, ain't a damn thing funny!
I've been planning to stop using it anyways, it's too costly
They may put even worst chemicals in black products. You stop trusting these people. Make your own. sell to each other. It's really enough.
Why should this even be explained.
Their new commercial hit it out the park though
Best solution is to make your own hair products case closed
off topic: what is the name of the first girl? does she have a youtube channel?
what really bothers me is that so many women feel excluded because that darker skinned woman in the ad is not one of you. so is she white? white women wouldn't think so. so what is she?
the only people who exclude somebody are those bashing this ad
you make yourselves something different, something special. you're not.
I understand that this brand may be really helpful for super curly hair, I honestly don't know a lot about that.
Happy Highlighter stfu
Happy Highlighter The fact that you know nothing about curly hair shows you are ignorant to this subject and have no say because you have no experience. The thing is straight haired people cannot use the same products as curly haired people. Our hair textures are very distinct. And trying to make products that work for both straight and curly hair, never works. They should have make a separate hair line, for straight haired people. And kept the curly haired people on the curly hair lines.
they know they aren't going to use these products
I'm gonna have to groan you for this mess. Talmbout they made a mistake. If you don't sit somewhere.
Great vid
So confused women with fine hair do not want their hair to be flat 🤔 so confused why women with fine hair was used.
fallon brown They have straight hair. Not fine hair. Black people have fine hair too. That has to do with the thickness of the hair strand.
I am offended by this commercial
IM DONE!
I’m Caucasian and I absolutely love this stuff my hair is fine and it makes it look healthy and thick
I’m done
CANTU is about to make alot pf money
OMG for real!
the are never doing it for the money, nut ones the money starts coming in...... its all and always will be about the money.
Wtf is this 😂😂😂
This is old but I do wanna say I'm the only woman I know who is "white" (portuguese, Irish & french) with straight/wavy fine hair and use Shea Moisture.
Like the video thanks girl
I believe they will learn I luv Shea Moisture’s line😊
Well shit.Wellcomb to Capitalism ie be your... own Boss.
I don't think it was that big of a deal I mean the line is for black women however if I tried every product and nothing works and this does I'm going to use it... also I'm going to expand my audience which is important... on top of that yall get mad when the white brands don't use blacks which is dumb smh
fake
Hell no! Wake up!
J DeLuca stfu 😒
People want to make a big deal out of everything .. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
WeR TheFuture go away!
I think you're missing the point
Okay so first us black people were mad because brands weren’t inclusive enough and now we are mad that the brands are including other people🤔🤔
So Shea moisture can't create products for any other race?????
You completely missed the whole point of the video.
whatever
They didn’t watch the video hahaha.
