He is such an intelligent and well mannered guy, on top of being a monster player. I can enjoy just listening to him speak without needing to understand much about the topic or question asked. He has an extremely soothing voice.
I'm a bit of a collector and have a few old guitars(I tel my g/f they are investments) that play so easy. I like a low action but when I'm at home I like to play an old 70's Eko 12 string that you have to fight to play and a Dobro with a high action which I use for slide and standard. I find when I go back to my electrics it really improves my playing. I love Ep's. I got one of the dot 335's and I use it more than anything.
Started the same, got a copy ES, and a Kramer Pacer. I look for the sound and feel in a guitar, and I like the feel of something natural, with a spirit. Compare Vigier and Suhr, both make fantastic guitars, but I am leaning towards Suhr because the axes feel more individual and soulful than the Vigier
I love Steinbergers, I've played them my entire career. What I love about his comments is that he is focussing everything on HIS needs, which is the ONLY thing that matters. In return, I'd probably hate his guitar and feel totally uncomfortable on it, but that's the beauty of individuality. God bless this guy, and his fantastic playing.
Actually the GM4T and GM7T Steinberger's have a more conventional body. Mr Van Halen certainly made one sound pretty good on "5150" and "Summer Nights" :)
I went to a lesson before his new band played in Toronto and we totally drove up on him smoking a joint out front. We even have photographic evidence lol.
@YofterMofter True just as Guthrie knows but steinbergers have an inherit tonality he mentioned but didn't elaborate about. He was getting at the materials and dimensions the steinberger guitars have that produces a certain tonal characteristic when a chord is played by itself.
Because you have a personal preference. For example, Les Paul have a very heavy arse which forces you to put it like all the other Les Paul men. It's also about the spirit of the guitar, what it makes you think of. At least for me
@shreddy666 Yeah i had the chance to test the suhr (guthrie's model) and yes,i agree the sound on it is really woody and well suited for Jazz and blues.

@rampage222555 Jem's are very overpriced, plus they have a basswood body, not that great if you want a guitar with more character. Did you see Govan's signature with a flamed maple top? its absolutely gorgeous!
@YofterMofter Lol. Myth? It's more common sense. Less wood. Less tone. I'ved played a steingberger. They sound horrible and feel horrible. Cool that Allan Holdsworth as a great tone with them. But you forget that he also has an amp and that plays a big role in tone. You put a full size electric guitar next to a steinberger and play them both acoustically. The full size will sound better. It is just common sense.
@rampage222555 There is no perfect guitar, and the JEM's don't have floyd roses. Besides the guitar he's playing here is not his signature model, his sig has a quilt maple top.
for that much money its better to buy a vai sig JEM. Those are the perfect guitars for every genre, have a great feel, and a great floyd rose, and look awesome. The Govan guitar looks really boring.

Man, what a diplomatic response to a guitar he’s not particularly fond of. You can tell by his language that he’s a deeply intelligent person.
"I like them for what they do, but what they do is a thing that I seldom need."
Cracking.
He is such an intelligent and well mannered guy, on top of being a monster player. I can enjoy just listening to him speak without needing to understand much about the topic or question asked. He has an extremely soothing voice.
his expression at the end of each video is priceless!
love his dry wit... delivering biting criticism but in the most subtle way!
"I like to hear a bit of tree"
:D

Steinbergers look like shit

"I like what they do, but what they do I seldom need" well said
Perfect articulate answers.
My thoughts exactly when watching this, I can't wait to have one.
aaaanndd he left suhr :l
when it comes to guitar playing, theres nobody comparable to guthrie g. god bless, g.
I went to a lesson before his new band played in Toronto and we totally drove up on him smoking a joint out front. We even have photographic evidence lol.
@MorganRNReid wow thanks for the comment i had no idea govan was a writer!!!!! im heading to amazon to order them now!!!!!
glassy shimmering sparkly sound...best vocabulary in a guitarist

I love Fender. Not starting any arguments here, but I love Fender...
I'm quite certain that Guthrie Govan would be a genius in anything he set his mind to.
Some people are just that good.
I'm just gonna stick to agile 8-strings. Hell yeah!
second. I watch all of these vids!!! i love Guthrie i'm currently studying his Creative guitar Books 1 and 2... so awesome.
@MistahhB K thx for correcting me, I was supposing that what Zhypher88 was correct. However all of Steve Vais sig JEMs have floyds.
"I like to hear a bit of tree" love it XD
would like to see what guthrie thinks about hufschmid guitars :)
i just love high guitar players like gothrie govan and marty friedman!!!
@Justasssu yes, he does.
@TheConnord12 Guthrie has been using a fretless Vigier lately!
Vigier was popularized by his, and our, hero Shawny Lane!

@odgeUK Of course I meant "Get Up" and "Summer Nights" :)
My dream guitar is a JEM
The mighty vintage Gibson es330 with p90s.
i like to play 1:53 - 1:55 over and over again =D
16 was used already guys, change it :D
Thumbs up for Ibanez!
Um... did you watch the video? He's talking about Steinbergers.
if steinberger were to make an 8 string as well as their current line-up, i would need NO other company.
Someone needs to hand Guthrie a Strandberg* one of these days
EVH used the Steinberger on the Live Without a Net tour and it sounded far from sterile
@BeatBay Bleh, personal opinion so I'm not gonna argue but the only way Steve beats Joe is a matter of Ego.
@MistahhB How to say it, this one is his sig. model, only the newer one :P
epic hair frequently accompanies humbuckered strat style guitars

Sheesh, I know he is playing a Suhr guitar. He is TALKING about a Steinberger. How hard is that to understand?
He's 39.
'a bit of tree'
1:20 hasta a los expertos les pasa hahaha
@rampage222555

ESP for god sake
CHARVEL!!! Only if you can't afford a Suhr, of course.
@therag just play like guthrie and get them for free
@BeatBay Joe satriani? He's heaps better than Vai.
@TriggerHappy971 Haha I laughed as well.
"... I like to hear a bit of tree..." OH OH! HIPPIE ALERT! LOL
just kidding, Guthrie is guitar Jesus
hes so passive aggressive.
I'll bet he also likes to smoke a little tree

they sound like NOTHING, but if you want to buy it, buy it.
Sorry, Steinbergers are ugleh as. Guitars are pieces of art and have to be good-looking.
Is he Jesus?
