I recently bought one of these. Same car only a two door, and rusted beyond help for 50.00...turns out the 455 in there is a 4 bolt main, H.O. motor!...people who knew the car, tell me it used to terrorize the neighborhood in it's day...I'm getting it ready for my 67 Goat!
Got one just like it...mine is a two door convertible same color. Been sitting in the barn for close to 20 years now. Used to be our daily driver. Owned since '89...someday I'll get back to it.
That Beautiful sound of the 455 starting up after 31 years is Sweet. Gives me confidence when I take a video of my Trans Am trying to start up after sitting for 30 years with the 400.
That brought back memories as I once owned a blue '70 Catalina four-door myself. It had a 350 2-barrel and ran pretty good for a 19'+ sedan! It would wallow like a ship in rough seas at 110mph...
Nice job guys! I have been trying to get my old 1948 Willy's going but the carb is so clogged up that it wouldn't take any fuel into the bowl. But it makes for good videos. Congrats on getting yet another piece of automotive history back on the road.
ha, aint it a blast firing them up, so we both did 31 year old cold starts, today, but yours drove kinda, cant think of a much better way to spend an afternoon
I had the same engine & transmission in a '57 GMC. I built mine with a mid-range cam, 'solid state' points eliminator kit, re-curved the ignition timing with a springs & weights kit, and I put a shift kit in the transmission. And of course I had some headers made to fit around the steering box. All in all it was very little work but the power that combination made was terrifying! Good luck with your project.
i had a 1973 Pontiac Grandville with the same 455 cu engine. Mine sounded a bit better than that one but it wasn't sitting for 31 years. Great video and great triumph for an old cold start
There's an old Bonneville with a 455 up at our old farm. I stuck a battery in it close to 20 years ago and it wasn't locked up. I need to go up there and get it sometime and see. Would make a good cold start.
Nothing like 1970, My oldest Sister had a boy friend who had that same old beast, except his Grand Prix was a Blue 2 door with the 455, and yes it would FLY!!!
thanks man.. I feel good. and everyone at the drs office comments about my having good color.. but I still cant do much. chest is still very sore. I'm learning how to be an old guy. haha
The Pontiacs from the 60s and early 70s had a distinct sound that I will never forget, I Love the old Pontiacs. No other car had that sound, Olds also had their own sound, and Buick had their own sound. I was able to tell if it was a Pontiac or Olds just by the sound. GM had different exhausts to make them special in their own way.
Reminds me of my Grandpa giving me a 1970 Pontiac Executive with a 400 2 BBL in 1986. A tree limb came down & busted the windshield out in 1985. Instead of fixing it; he buys another vehicle. So I start & run this car every 2 to 4 weeks for about a year or so. God, I loved that old car; that was till I got in the pickup truck buying mood. I'm still sick over getting rid of that fine automobile!
I love how these guys fill the float bowl with a funnel!!!!!! I found the easiest way was to just put the hose in a soda bottle at one end and over the vent tube... then just blow into the bottle and ..... voila...... works like a charm and never wastes any gas
I had a 67' Catalina I bought for $400. It sat in a Illinois barn for about 10 years. It had over 683,000 miles, I replaced the battery, spark plugs, vacuum modulator and rear main oil seal. It ran like a champ after that
Set the choke closed cold. Set the fast idle warm and idle warm. Set the timing warm. Check the accelerator pump. Put gas down the carburetor before starting. Check for spark. Charge the battery full! Clean the plugs.
I always liked the grill and headlights on that year. If it was a 2dr with the 455 I would restore it. Otherwise - I had a 76 Catilina wagon back in the day that I used to pull my stock car and trailer with until I got a good deal on a truck . Then I pulled the 455 out of the wagon and dropped it in a 77 TA that I got cheap because it had a blown 400. I had so much fun with that thing I was putting tires on the back every month .I couldn't resist doing burnouts and doughnuts. I could think of plenty of fun things to do with a 455. LOL
I had a 1962 comet, no rust, no dents, bought in Wisconsin for $300.00. Easy engine to work on. Six cylinder, three on the tree, high beam switch on the floor My friend thought the turn signal was the gear shifter and broke it off. I had to tap a new hole. Bought it in winter with a bad heater core, that was a cold ride back to Illinois.
Haha, that reminds me of an old buddy back in the 70's. He had a '69 Bonneville Convertible in about the same condition. He loved the whole car. Boy, he thought that was one beautiful automobile. It was, when it was new. I agree, take the engine and tranny. LMAO
Great video... Thanks for doing it..... Only thing that would have made it better..... And just a suggestion mind you...... Is if sparks were there and if he jumped up on the fender of that ol Pontiac and put hid tail in ur face while you were force feeding gas...lol....I would have paid money to see that Blaa ha ha ha !! Take care!!!
When I saw that funnel and hose and the soup dripping down I thought, I've seen this somewhere before. lol I refrained from saying, "What could...etc."
Once the motor and trans are pulled, you should list the body for sale. Us folks in the rustbelt would love to get a hold of a relatively rust free body like that.
A Blue one was almost my first. My neighbor came down to sell it to me, took it for a test drive back in the day. I wouldn't have been able to keep gas in her.
That front bumper and grill would probably look good , narrowed down , on a rat rod . Years ago I bought a 76 nova that had been setting 18 years under a bunch of pine trees. The break and fuel lines were rotted away , so we wedged a milk jug with gas between the grill and radiator . To get the car home , we run a chain from it to a truck , and used the car to pull the truck and the truck to stop them both lmao
Love those pontiacs torque monsters lol took a 455 out of a 73 grand prix put it in a 73 square body chevy pu talk about a tire melter i used to stop at my local junkyard every fri for tires for the weekend so i didnt ruin my good ones lol
It's got a nice nose, I'd hang that up as shop lighting if I had the space! (and a shop!) I like the old four-eyed look! Engine sounds real nice! 12:22 - you were beside yourself! XD
I remember a napa machine shop foreman when I was in high school was making a 455 sleeper out of a 225, thought he was reaching, but he did it and put an oil drip in the exhaust to make it look like it was on it's last legs. He suckered alot of folks out of their money back then jump racing at the lights in 1980.
I had a 1070 Catalina. This video reminded me of it. Mine was gold like this, but had a white convertible top. Ran a 400 c.i motor. It rode like being on a cloud. Mine started a lot better. Ha Ha
Enjoyed your video fellas, my aunt and uncle drove Bonneville threw the late 60s and early 70s. Darren, sir, did you know your name is Gaelic and means Great One?
todd riley It sat in a junkyard for 31 yrs and took a couple crazy hillbillies like us to drag it out and get it running again. I thought I should at least save the 360 hp 455!
It remind of the 70 s when I was a kid, my gran used to buy me little cars, of course this would have been current then. I still have them up in the loft.
Funny and sad at same time. Bonnie’s were a class act...good looking with luxury and performance. I would have been proud to drive a gold 4 door hardtop 455 Bonnie...skirts would have been icing
It's unfortunate, it's getting scrapped after the engine gets pulled. It definitely looks like it could be saved even though it's a 4-Door they are starting to become more popular.
0:45 "455 what are your plans. I mean... you know... this is ( something?) junk it ." ( Yeah I missed some waords at the end. My english is not that good) Only use that motor? Come ooooon this car is freakin' awesome !!! Seriously.
This is my exact high school car. Best car I ever had. Bought it in 79 with 44000 miles for $158.
I miss those good old cars. Thank you for the memories. God bless stay safe.
Mine has been sitting since 1987.
Nothing better than getting something running after years of sitting and minimal effort!!! Love it.
I can see you two had some real fun getting that beast running! Sounds remarkably good for standing 31 years.
That brought back memories as I once owned a blue '70 Catalina four-door myself. It had a 350 2-barrel and ran pretty good for a 19'+ sedan! It would wallow like a ship in rough seas at 110mph...
You gotta rebuild that beauty it’s in great shape. Muscle and class !
I love that car. And a 455 too. I need one of those. Yep.
Nice job guys! I have been trying to get my old 1948 Willy's going but the carb is so clogged up that it wouldn't take any fuel into the bowl. But it makes for good videos. Congrats on getting yet another piece of automotive history back on the road.
Love the sound of old GM muscle!
I've always liked Pontiac's. Something about duel headlights and split grills, LOL......Cool Video !!
Absolutely kick ass engine hidden in there. Highly underrated! Great score!
Yes I know, thanks! 😉
even with missing head lights and windshield, it still has more class than this new stuff..
Amen!
And eats allot more gass too.
That engine sound, not many cars today can beat that..
yes, little pansy sounding engines and the horns the same way,
@@04dram04 but it last years and years
Good to see you having fun Ken!
ha, aint it a blast firing them up, so we both did 31 year old cold starts, today, but yours drove kinda, cant think of a much better way to spend an afternoon
im tellin' ya.. its a hoot!
Dude, in addition to a big win with that old 455, you got a shout-out from Mustie1, the man himself!!! What a great day for you. Congrats!!!!!
Good luck with your project.
sounds like an awesome ride!
Thankyou
i had a 1973 Pontiac Grandville with the same 455 cu engine. Mine sounded a bit better than that one but it wasn't sitting for 31 years. Great video and great triumph for an old cold start
omg i love the engine sound from the old us cars...very nice :)
My Dad purchased a 1969 Catalina brand new and I swear that thing could run forever!
Wow, This was great to watch, and yes I was nervous about no breaks!!!!
Ummm, mee too! Maybe the E-brake woulda been a good idea. (credit Kerwood!) 😝
loved the old boats rode like a dream!!
10 miles to the gallon SD only available in goat and t/a
I have a 2011 truck that gets 12 mpg.
There's an old Bonneville with a 455 up at our old farm. I stuck a battery in it close to 20 years ago and it wasn't locked up. I need to go up there and get it sometime and see. Would make a good cold start.
would make great video footage!!
I had the 70 executive with the 400 and man do I miss that machine. Clean, nice chrome, lots of power
Nothing like 1970,
My oldest Sister had a boy friend who had that same old beast, except his Grand Prix was a Blue 2 door with the 455, and yes it would FLY!!!
12:00 love that front bumper! Classic!!
Liked the speed limiter - the person walking alongside, holding the throttle open :)
Good to see you back Ken you're looking good as new!
thanks man.. I feel good. and everyone at the drs office comments about my having good color.. but I still cant do much. chest is still very sore. I'm learning how to be an old guy. haha
I don't believe that crazy talk.
My first car was a 1971 Pontiac Catalina with a 400. I loved that car.
I'm still sick over getting rid of that fine automobile!
thanks for watching and sharing the memories!
You're welcome!
I love how these guys fill the float bowl with a funnel!!!!!! I found the easiest way was to just put the hose in a soda bottle at one end and over the vent tube... then just blow into the bottle and ..... voila...... works like a charm and never wastes any gas
wow. you're somebody special lol
That was a good one. I have a 69 Pontiac Lemans with a 74 Bonneville 455 ,and a 78 Trans Am has the 400....So that was cool to see👍
Nice cars! Pontiac power!
I had a 67' Catalina I bought for $400. It sat in a Illinois barn for about 10 years. It had over 683,000 miles, I replaced the battery, spark plugs, vacuum modulator and rear main oil seal. It ran like a champ after that
Not that I could hear much over the exhaust, but it sounded real healthy for an engine that hasn't started since God knows when...good find!
Oh what fun! I love the exhaust poppity pop pop. Be well fellas!
Sure brings a smile..Thanks Ken.
;)
I grew up with a 1970 Catalina of the same color but it was a wagon. This one sounds just like it when cranking.
That would be a cool car to have now!
my aunt had a 74 Pont Bon sedan with a 400ci ......... oh what fun that was to drive in the 80's
awesome, and what a beautiful snarl and growl from that engine!
Set the choke closed cold. Set the fast idle warm and idle warm. Set the timing warm. Check the accelerator pump. Put gas down the carburetor before starting. Check for spark. Charge the battery full! Clean the plugs.
You really needed Brown to manage the gas for you guys. He would have put a 'lot' in and caused a fire. :) Glad to see you are out and about!
Noting like breathing life into an old beast.
Woohoo! Open exhaust, no windshield, no rear window... Time for a cruise!
Good idea!
Omg this car is a dream..please restore it!! Greetings from Italy Sir!
sorry, makes no sense to spend 20 thousand to restore a 4 door car that would be worth 4 thousand when its done
but if you want to send me the $20,000, I'll consider it! :)
Brilliant...love it. Now all you have to do is get some brakes and drive it across country lol. You had a real fun day :)
the ole 455 sounds great guys ! Thumbs up ..
Hi Ken, Just kept thinking "What Could Possibly Go Wrong"
Yes sir, don't get much colder than that.
I always liked the grill and headlights on that year. If it was a 2dr with the 455 I would restore it. Otherwise - I had a 76 Catilina wagon back in the day that I used to pull my stock car and trailer with until I got a good deal on a truck . I had so much fun with that thing I was putting tires on the back every month .I couldn't resist doing burnouts and doughnuts. I could think of plenty of fun things to do with a 455. LOL
Now thats what we need in Holland more. This puts a smile one my face :D
cool staff guys!! Just before20 days i starter a 65 mercury comet 202 !!she is sitting back from 1995! No problem work like new!!!
That was in 1972.
Haha, that reminds me of an old buddy back in the 70's. He had a '69 Bonneville Convertible in about the same condition. He loved the whole car. Boy, he thought that was one beautiful automobile. It was, when it was new. I agree, take the engine and tranny. LMAO

tha sound is music my imaginary 1970 brand new .best of best. I want to see finish .
I'm still waiting for you to adjust the idle higher, You did some good work.
Cool , and the windows were even pretty clean , lol
wait for the driving video.. coming up! haha
When I saw that funnel and hose and the soup dripping down I thought, I've seen this somewhere before. lol I refrained from saying, "What could...etc."
Crawling over the hill at the end, she sounded like "Christine" pulling back in to the junkyard garage.
Once the motor and trans are pulled, you should list the body for sale.
Us folks in the rustbelt would love to get a hold of a relatively rust free body like that.
For sale? I'll give the body to the first person to come get it... FREE! start saving you auto transport coin!
I was in awe of the things that made the bonneville look like it had two extra headlights. Hey, I was 10 and in fear of air puff propulsion
Pretty cool car. The 70 is nice looking but I REALLY like the 69 Bonneville and Catalina
amazing sound in that car.. loved it !!!
im restoring a 52 pontiac thats sat for 30 years.
A Blue one was almost my first. My neighbor came down to sell it to me, took it for a test drive back in the day. I wouldn't have been able to keep gas in her.
The 70 Pontiac 455 is considered one of the top 10 high performance engines of that era.
That front bumper and grill would probably look good , narrowed down , on a rat rod . Years ago I bought a 76 nova that had been setting 18 years under a bunch of pine trees. The break and fuel lines were rotted away , so we wedged a milk jug with gas between the grill and radiator . To get the car home , we run a chain from it to a truck , and used the car to pull the truck and the truck to stop them both lmao
thats fun stuff!
love it great vid, well done!
Love those pontiacs torque monsters lol took a 455 out of a 73 grand prix put it in a 73 square body chevy pu talk about a tire melter i used to stop at my local junkyard every fri for tires for the weekend so i didnt ruin my good ones lol
“Air is overrated” That’s a good one! LOL!
It's got a nice nose, I'd hang that up as shop lighting if I had the space! (and a shop!)
I like the old four-eyed look! Engine sounds real nice! 12:22 - you were beside yourself! XD
A '70 455...that's before severe emissions! That'll be an awesome motor for something..like that red T/A sitting on the side :-)

Enjoyed your video fellas, my aunt and uncle drove Bonneville threw the late 60s and early 70s. Darren, sir, did you know your name is Gaelic and means Great One?
That front bumper would make a cool ratrod GRILLE !
Not much rust. Can't believe you are going to junk it. Shame. Looks like lotsa good parts...
todd riley It sat in a junkyard for 31 yrs and took a couple crazy hillbillies like us to drag it out and get it running again. I thought I should at least save the 360 hp 455!
todd riley 360 gross hp lol more 250hp when it was new
todd riley
Dipstick Pick those 455 engines are hard to find! I love pontiacs.
we live in a throw -away age.
It remind of the 70 s when I was a kid, my gran used to buy me little cars, of course this would have been current then.
I still have them up in the loft.
1970 Bonneville is one of the few Pontiacs I like!
Funny and sad at same time. Bonnie’s were a class act...good looking with luxury and performance. I would have been proud to drive a gold 4 door hardtop 455 Bonnie...skirts would have been icing
I would take that 455 and put it in that Trans Am and make it rock &roll !
Some good times there Ken!!! I'm about due to get another old one going. haha
I watched it all the way through for that "hold my beer" moment too.
thats coming up! haha..
It's unfortunate, it's getting scrapped after the engine gets pulled.
It definitely looks like it could be saved even though it's a 4-Door they are starting to become more popular.
like that one...sweet engine....SALUTE
awesome guys on the road again oops no breaks lol
over rated in my opinion. haha
Your show is better than roadkill
barbecue mice in the tail pipe. lol
All that smoke in the back when it fired up, 3 fried mice Ha Ha. Bet it had all sorts of junk up in that tailpipe
Beautiful car. Parking spaces aren't made for those where I live. No brakes....check the emergency brakes.
don't junk it!!! i'll take it!! i got a ohc Pontiac 6 in the garage.
After I get the parts I need you can have the car if you come get it. I dare ya! Haha!
Put a tag on it and lets go to town
Sounds like the roughest running engine ever, but man does it sound beautiful
0:45 "455 what are your plans. I mean... you know... this is ( something?) junk it ." ( Yeah I missed some waords at the end. My english is not that good)
Only use that motor?
Come ooooon this car is freakin' awesome !!! Seriously.
that would make a great exhibition car too
i love the sound it has
sounds better than a ferrari
So awesome!
Hello All! That's a Pontiac 455! Better than any New Stuff. Even in Death, Pontiac Still Lives.!!! LSX?, Ha!, Ha!, Ha!. BullyBilly
Heck yeah! I love Pontiacs!
how about an LSX in a pontiac 98-02 trans am WS6 long live the trans am
Ls? Never heard of er, I own a 455 olds, a 260 olds and a 300 Ford inline
