    I learned about this soup from my Haitian student from a project about your favorite holiday and the food that is served. There is really an important story behind this soup! Long live Haitian independence! This soup looked and sounded so amazing from his online presentation that here I am trying to make it myself. It looks so good.

    0:30 Ingredients
    1:38 Step 1 Rinse, season with epis, cover and set aside meat
    2:20 Step 2 Bring 8 cups of water to a boil for yams & 8 another 8 cups for squash
    2:40 Step 3 Cook for 40 minutes
    3:00 Step 4 Blend Squash
    4:00 Step 5 Pour squash puree into pot with the meat
    4:15 Step 6 Add the vegetables along with celery and parsley
    5:00 Step 7 Add the macaroni ziti, spaghetti, & fat
    5:35 Step 8 Add the Goya packet to the flour & water
    6:10 Step 9 Roll Dumplings
    7:05 Step 10 Add Dumplings to soup
    7:20 Step 11 Remove celery, thyme, & parsley
    7:39 Step 12 Add a tablespoon of lime juice
    7:45 Step 13 Add Yams to soup

My mother in law name is Marie as well 😂 I will be make soup jomou for the first time this year I’m very excited .     New Year is not only independence day but my mother's birthday and you two have the same name!

    This is my first time making the soup 1 thing I want to ask is do I peel the pumpkin before I blend or just blend everything on the pumpkin without peeling.

      I left the rind on and I blended it and then I used a strainer for the puree to catch any of the rind that wasn't blended.

      @@HaitianDiningWithMarie My mom is in Florida, all the elders have gotten older. So I don't get any Haiti food unless I buy it. Because my brother and I like fresh food straight from the stove like the way our mom use to make my brother girl have a hard time keeping up the standard 😊.
      I don't eat much and ended up in the hospital for 3 days. So I thought I better learn to cook Haiti food instead of Sandwich 😊.
      The way you show it, let me know it's not that hard like I thought 👍.

      Kareen Mondesir frozen squash works fine. I did it last year and loved it. Saves on time too.
      I think she did blend it skin on. Probably won’t matter since you have to strain it anyway 🤷🏾‍♀️
