Thanks for the video and information. I purchased a new construction home one year ago in North Texas - Master Planed Community. Evan though I am a home owner I gained valuable information. Couldn’t agree more - you NEED to be represented by a quality experienced Real Estate Agent. I purchased a home that had been optioned by a previous prospective buyer, but the deal fell through at the last minute. I purchased the home “As Is”. Also check the reputation of the builder - 99% of new homes will have some issues. You mentioned some “Production Builders” - I purchased from Highland Homes. Two small issues developed the first year. The builder remedied the issues quickly and professionally. PS - I have no connection to Highland Homes.

We are considering moving to the US as our immigration is through and Texas is one of our options as we have some family already living in Houston. As we're Indians I would really like to live in a community which is diverse and where I can easily find jobs. I would be really great if you could guide as on A) what is more economical buying a house from a production home or do a custom built home. Any advice would be helpful. Great job!

Yes we have worked with many buyers with land and the custom build. It would depend on what area though. If we need to hook you up with a referral for a city further out we can do that as well.

Hi Dana, I used to work holding signs for model house here in Southern California back before the house crash. I have heard that if you buy a model house the builder will pay for your mortgage until its sold. So as long as a new home owner can wait it out you get your mortgage paid and you have all the custom builds and landscapes in the model house. Is there any truth to this? Thanks, Veronica
Great information...thanks! How does the price of a non-extravagant custom home compare to a new home or spec home? I’m considering a move....don’t want to be in a community...just want a simple yet spacious 3,000 sq foot home on a property big enough to eventually build two 1500 sq foot shops for my businesses.
Chris Howells I would say the foundation for a builder is how much the land is. Then on top of that they charge per sq ft. I’ve seen as low as $115/sf on upwards of $200+ there are some small town custom builds in the country that are very inexpensive.

Architect can be rather expensive from 8 to 15% of total construction cost.
