Most people can't wrap their minds around the fact that people with PTSD like the Beauties exist. They just don't all look attractive so its easy to dismiss or even blame it on something else. Each Beauty has an underlying condition coupled with it that's explained by Rose whenever Snake asks her for advice. Laughing Octopus' is arguably the most unsettling.

That was a sort of in-between for Mantis' story. It takes place AFTER he already killed his father and burned down his village. When the Soviet military searched the burning remains of the little town, they found the young Psycho Mantis, trapped in a trance from the shock of discovering his powers, and decided to try to experiment on him and with his powers. Everything he did in TPP was a result of him being trapped in that trance and blindly obeying the furious wills of others, like Volgin and Skull Face. It was only after he met Eli, who would grow up to be Liquid Snake in MGS1, that he slowly rebuilt his own conscious and made his own philosophy and his own thoughts. When Mantis was talking about how he'd "seen true evil", he was talking about people like Skull Face and Venom Snake, those who were controlling him until Eli finally met him.
This entire series needs to come back in true HD. This is the best gaming series in the universe. In what game does a villain come back and remember to manipulate your memory card or controller from a game 10 years ago? Kojima is a genius.
My friend while I can agree that Mantis came to terms with what he was and his own death I don't think he in any way regretted his actions for a few reasons. 1. Human beings desire to pass on their seed is something he finds utterly repulsive and is disgusted by for reasons that can only be described as petty as all hell. 2. He believes human beings aren't meant to bring each other happiness, only misery. 3. He not only admits that he burned his own village down to bury his past, but laughs while doing so. 4. He also admits that his reason for joining Liquid was not to help his cause but to murder as many people as he could. 5. He chooses to die as he lived... alone. 6. And this is the most important one - remember how he helped us out by pointing us towards Metal Gear? The only reason he did that was because if he didn't Liquid wouldn't have been able to Arm the Nuke attached to Metal Gear... Psycho Mantis, he died as he lived... a complete dick. Which I actually respect a lot more.
