I'm sat listening to this on Christmas Eve while all my so called "friends" are out having a great time. It's songs like these that make me realise that all I need is myself and some good fucking music to have a good time
@@katy1413 Ye, I’ve helped my friend through hard times and they don’t even ask if I want to hang out with them on weekends and don’t invite me so I just watch green day shows when that bastard is out being happy I’m not with them
Hannah Ashton it’s due to the way the time signature is. The faster guitars and leading drums push the song toward while the delivery of the singing and slower lead guitar pull it back leaving a little space in the count where it’s empty so it’s literally making your ear drag on you push forward all the while it’s holding on very great music theory here
I have not listened to this song since I was 16 -now I'm 23- and my heart just warmed up remembering how broken I was and that now I'm in a so much better place. This song was one of my favorites.
Trust me, I'm 17 now, but when the Green Day members r all dead and when I'm a fully grown adult I'll still be listening to Green Day's amazing music! If my children say something along the lines of "Dad, why do u like this band so much? There r plenty of other bands and singers out there" I'd reply back "If only u were born in my generation, you'd understand why"
Cool down, I've seen Muse live and I will see Green Day in January. Honestly that was the best concert in my life, Muse is "invincible" on a stage, but I'm sure Green Day will be awesome too! :)
cant belive they played this live the firat time i got to see them a month ago in milano. they saved my life twice. first time i got their album in 2004 when i was 10 and first time i saw then live at 22
@joshua, Jimmy is the protagonist of the album. From what I understand, he either invented or was told about a special Jesus for outcasts and "sinners" like him. My interpretation of this song is that Jimmy and the people he identifies with are "the waiting", meaning that they're waiting for the Jesus of suburbia to come die for their sins and protect them, but decide "the Jesus of suburbia is a lie". The song fades into St. Jimmy, which is him taking charge and leading the march to change or acceptance. Spoiler alert! He's martyred later.
I rememeber how the people where screaming in the concert "Jesus of suburbia is a lie" and also when start St. Jimmy the get crazy and they make a big mosh
I'm a huge Directioner, but I blare Green Day, PTV, All Time Low, SWS, & BVB, daily. Not all of us are 12 year olds who just blare their music constantly ;)
Oh my god, did you just compare Black veil Brides with this masterpiece? Black veil brides is just emo nonsense, where as green day are creative and there albums tell a story.
Domenica S. what the fuck is wrong with you, you might not be 12 but you're probably 15. You shouldn't even be allowed to have SWS and PTV in the same sentence as greenday
The feels are so real with this entire album.. Sumer 2004, living in Cleveland, 13 years old and mom bought me this new green day album.. So much angst.
Grace Siewert ,I think it's because at this point in the story of American Idiot, the main character ( Jesus of Suburbia) is starting to question his existence. That's when his mind creates a persona to fill the void(St. Jimmy).St. Jimmy is just a figment of JOS's imagination,a coping mechanism for the doubt.
THIS SONG IS MY PERSONAL ANTHEM!!!!!!!!!!! IT'S A POWERFUL SONG, THAT SHAKE YOU UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHEN I'M DOWN, THIS SONG REALLY HELPS ME TO STAND UP AGAIN!!!!!!

That awkward moment when you listen "The Jesus of Suburbia is a lie" and you thought "WTF? He was lying to us all the time? DAMN YOU, BILLIE!"... Thumbs up if it happens to you the same thing or, at least, something very looked like...
not downplaying the greatness of the original, but yall should check out the broadway musical version of this song. the drum solo they add in the middle is.....heavenly. trust me. you'll never hear the transition the same way ever again

I want to fall in love to Are We the Waiting. It's a big song about strength in the youth, hope, and all of that!
Are We The Waiting has the kind of chorus I just want to scream from the rooftops......maybe it's just the mood I'm in but I really do...

Lyrics
Starry nights
City of lights coming down over me
Skyscrapers
Stargazers in my head
Are we we are, are we we are
The waiting, unknown
This dirty town is burning down in my dreams
Lost and found the city bound in my dreams
And screaming
Are we we are, are we we are the waiting
And screaming
Are we we are, are we we are the waiting
Forget me nots and second thoughts live in isolation
Heads or tales and fairytales in my mind,
Are we we are
Are we we are the waiting, unknown
Rage and love, the story of my life
The Jesus of suburbia is a lie
And screaming
Are we we are, are we we are the waiting, and screaming
Are we we are, are we we are the waiting unknown
Are we we are, are we we are the waiting, and screaming
Are we we are, are we we are the waiting unknown
Are we we are, are we we are the waiting unknown
St. Jimmy's coming down across the alleyway
Up on the boulevard like a zip gun on parade
Light of a Silhouette, he's insubordinate
Coming at you on the count of one two (one, two, three, four)
My name is Jimmy and you better not wear it out
Suicide commando that your momma talked about
King of the forty thieves and I'm here to represent
That needle in the vein of the establishment
I'm the patron saint of the denial
With an angel face and a taste for suicidal
Cigarettes and ramen and a little bag of dope
I am the son of a bitch and Edgar Allan Poe
Raised in the city under a halo of lights
The product of war and fear that we've been victimized
I'm the patron saint of the denial
With an angel face and a taste for suicidal
You talkin' to me?
I'll give you something to cry about
St. Jimmy
My name is St. Jimmy I'm a son of a gun
I am the one that's from the way outside (St. Jimmy)
A teenage assassin executing some fun
And the cult of the life of crime (St. Jimmy)
I really hate to say it but I told you so
So shut your mouth before I shoot you down ol' boy (St. Jimmy)
Welcome to the club and give me some blood
And the resident leader of the lost and found (St. Jimmy)
It's comedy and tragedy
It's St. Jimmy
And that's my name
And don't wear it out!
Why?
That awkward moment when you listen "The Jesus of Suburbia is a lie" and you thought "WTF? He was lying to us all the time? DAMN YOU, BILLIE!"... Thumbs up if it happens to you the same thing or, at least, something very looked like...
I can't listen to these two songs without crying. No other music has ever done that to me.
