    A bit off topic, I know, but after watching this episode, I listened to new statement from the victims lawyer. I was shocked to hear that the man from the swingers couple was a NYC police officer - a detective! And, although this couple drove the s*x worker to Rex’s house, the detective had no intention to take her back to the city. When she ran out after them, scared and desperate, the man tried to placate the woman with “don’t worry, they are just playing a game”. Absolutely shameful. I hope the potential cover up from the police side will be addressed. How many officers knew about the swinging house just a few miles away from the victims graves?!

And who would believe a hooker on drugs implicating a cop? I can’t say if the cop knew whether Karen was going to be murdered but I do think Rex had some friends that were participating in torture. And probably murder… maybe that’s why the police had no interest whatsoever in finding the killer…it might Implicate some of them?

    I don't think Asa is as helpless as people imagine. She immediately hired a lawyer for herself and her daughter. She also filed for divorce within a few days of Huermann's arrest. One of the police officials quoted her as saying "it is what it is" after learning of the charges against her husband. Her disheveled appearance made her seem more of a victim than what she really is. If the witness account of Karen Vergatta (RIP) proves to be true, Asa was home while Karen frantically ran outside naked. I can't imagine the terror Karen must have felt. Again, if the witness account is true, ***k Asa.

      I agree she knew things and should have reported or intervened with the Vergata situation-BUT keep in mind we have the police participating in this tryst, and know Commisioner Burke was also involved in sex parties and abusing sex workers. The swinger cop seemed to have made a deal with Heuerman to leave Vergata there. Asa may not have been able to call the police since they were in on this scene, and she had no protection. However, agreed in this day, with the police seeming to be under new leadership-she could have gone to somebody about what she knew. It will be interesting to find out more about all this, and hope for justice to be served for all victims, including officers like the one who was paid off to abandon Vergata.

    I have been reading about Heuermann with some amazement and disbelief as I am a practising Architect with a small firm and not quite sure how he found the time, energy, ability and wherewithal to pursue these antics and crimes whilst running a small firm. I'm usually seeing clients on the weekends to discuss new work and check progress etc. I can only imagine that the drive to carry out these misdeeds must have been all-consuming & controlling for him. I usually need a nap after my Sunday morning cycle to relax.

    • @mtaylor7307
      @mtaylor7307 Год назад +3

      That's an interesting consideration. Agreed running your own business can be intense. Maybe depends on the specialization? His firm advised on building codes. The consulting or project bid would be more about complexity of knowledge than volume or design. His adult daughter worked for him which may have reduced his individual input requirements. He also had more than one revenue stream for himself and coming into the house from immediate family which afforded some freedom. Another point is maybe his activities are not about energy but about addiction and/or obsession which has its own fuel. He apparently liked to power trip whatever he was doing. When your work is play, you can play your life away.

    • @fredperry523

He is a large bloke and I imagine quite capable of causing violent damage which makes it even more sad.

      @@fredperry523 Yes, it was scary to see how much larger he was than the law enforcement arresting him. Scary because his victims currently known were petite women. Powerless wasn't as much fun for him as absolutely powerless.
      A 20 year study released about sex offenders in prison in the US reported that for all offenders that power over another person was "the kick" for them be it over an adult or child. Underneath it all the offenders also felt they were powerless themselves and found their predation a form of regaining control.
      His specialization in work seemed also about control...extremely detailed about codes may have given him the feeling of "expert" with superiority by comparison to his clients. I don't see his efforts as collaborative experiences. He told clients what could and could not be done regarding complicated NY regulations.

    I'm 62 years of age. Sitting here, I can think of five good friends through the years that either took a short or long ride on the freak train. I can remember people pointing out homes and recounting stories while passing neighborhoods. Not my thing, but I was a listener while they recounted memories of sex parties or encounters that occurred in the 70s and 80s. I am well aware that these kinds of events happen in both urban and rural America. I'm also aware that the people involved could be professionals or blue collar. Many of these parties involved drugs and alcohol. Some of my friends would swing with spouses or partners. It happens more frequently than what some people may think. This is certainly a lifestyle that my parents and grandparents couldn't comprehend. My friends had particular memories for the wealthy or well-educated people that they encountered (physicians and business owners).

    I'm from SE Florida, Ft Lauderdale. Back in the late 1990's a man answered my dating ad in the newspaper. We spoke on the phone and he seemed very polite and intelligent. Said he was an artitect. Can't remember what name he used. He wanted to meet me at his house that he said was bare of furniture because he was "transitioning " here. For safety reasons I wanted to meet at a public cafe. So he agreed. When I got there I was horrified to see a huge giant man about 6'5". He was scowling. We went in and sat in a booth. He remained scowling and eerily silent, making me uncomfortable. He finally spoke: " I hate pro lifers" I was active in pro life. As he said this he was staring off in a direction and never locking me in the eye. I instantly felt menace and danger. Every hair on my neck stood up. I jumped up out of the booth and ran to my car. He followed and got in his car. I drove an hour long convoluted way home so he couldn't follow me. I was absolutely terrified! He resembled Rex. I wonder if Rex's work with Catholic Charities brought him to visit Ft Lauderdale?

    I think she tolerated the sexual deviance but had no idea about the murders. Maybe he funded her trips home to get her out of the way when he planned the murders. We had a serial killer in australia who targeted backpackers & hitch-hikers for many years. His wife had no idea. He buried his victims in the forest. An english backpacker who managed to get away came back to testify, which was hugely important in getting a conviction.

    Thinking about Asa’s involvement, it seems to me that we should take note of the fact that the swinger incident was purported to have happened fairly early in the marriage. Also, she seems to have been sitting out the activities in favor of chatting with the woman as the men and victim are in a separate space. I wonder if Rex’s steps to hide the identity of some victims was directly related to the possibility that his wife could otherwise recognize those individuals. There seems to be more to suggest that she had some plausible deniability. Probably by design, he insisted on doing certain behaviors with her full knowledge and likely against her wishes. Conversely he hid behaviors from her that might necessitate her immediate need to escape from him, expose him or risk harm or more extreme restrictive control at his hand.
    She was probably just full time avoiding him and placating him after so many years of marriage. Maybe those victims right in her own neighborhood served as reminders of what he would do to her if she stepped out of line. I think she escaped him as soon as she could. She’s a survivor.

    We do not know what his childhood was like. Was he sexually abused as a child? Was he bullied? Rex is a SEX ADDICT… doesn’t mean he is gay with other men… it means it’s a sexual avenue… and like addicts, they have to get higher and higher… same with this man. It’s not right, however, what we allow in childhood ,messes one up in adulthood. CHILDREN LIVES MATTER… let’s protect all our children.
    His wife… she knew, and possibly was in denial. I do not think he was abusive to her, she had choices, as well as a temper the way she went after the public, the police, and getting her guns back. She was their as Rex made a good living, and she really didn’t care. His daughter was close to him. The fact they lived filthy and as hoarders , is also an addiction. Says a lot about both Mom and Dad. Those poor children.
