pivoting in the backhand corner is usually the go-to strategy for forhand dominant penholders as you can get the hardest shots from there because you can step around the table with your left leg. you also play a lot of angles between inside-out and down the line. so be careful with just simply playing into the backhand corner a lot.
Returning serves can be difficult as servers can make 2 different serves look similar. That's why it's important to understand the principles of returning serve rather than just having one video on how to return a particular serve. Take a look at these tutorials for more help: www.pingskills.com/categories/serving-and-receiving Good luck!
As RPB player fast center mass shots when im at the table are indeed troublesome, but if im anywhere remotely back from the table; That becomes a easy pivot return drive. So his advice is accurate in a sense but if anyone watching this is relying on that in all situations you might find yourself being counter productive by just hitting the ball directly at the player.
I have a friend who plays JPEN style. Players will keep on attacking his BH side...only to be thrown off guard most of the time cos his BH is very strong. LOL! yes, JPEN players with strong BH do exist!
exactly, u can understand now in the past penholders ruled the world, theorically bh is their weakness, but in real play most penholders have a very good push/chop block plus amazing footwork to compesate
I don't think spinny loops are a weakness, I as a penhold player really like to do a touch shot when someone does a spinny loop. That really helps me set it up
We have some videos on these topics. Check out the following tutorials to see if they help: www.pingskills.com/tutorials/playing-against-series Good luck!
single sided penhold backhand can do deadly attacks from mid/far from the table, but the critical thing is the close to the table game. Counter heavy topspin close to the table is the something every single sided penholder would struggle with.
PenHold players have a great advantage. Like XuXin nobody would believe that he has a bad backhand. And he's also able to cover entire area by merely jumping around so easily. No wonder they call him a cloudwalker!
A lot of Korean JPEN players from last centre(when RBP was not widely used) used fantastic footwork to cover their weakness of backhand. Kim Taek Soo should be the best one.
I not lose to a penhold player yet. I find u have to vary the pace if a penhold player can get into the rally there very good at wide blocks so I vary the pace and start with a backside spin serves so the it stops them flicking it wide on the second ball.
I have a question. Me an my friend have got new rackets which has a lot of spin. I usually play defensive and now when im returning smashes i return them so high. I was wondering how i can return them to go a little bit lower

I have a question. Currently I know how to serve with different spin, how to push, how to attack, etc, but I haven’t trained before. Does what racket and rubber I use make a big difference? What racket and rubber would you recommend for people who have been playing for some time like me? I’m a traditional penholder(use only one side of racket).

@@pingskills Great! It really helped me out. I have another question though. I'm a penhold player, so will the rubber fit on my blade? What blade(wood) should I use?

What's the best way to clean inverted rubber? I find that when I use microfiber or any other cloth with water, the cloth will still put a little bit of dust on the rubber. Thanks in advance!
I think what you are doing is fine. If there is a little bit of dust it shouldn't affect the performance, and if you wipe the rubber clean it shouldn't leave too much dust.
same goes here buddy, but i learn to watch the spins and ball position when returned, as we have to be patience against defender and wait to attack when the ball is floaty or has little amouny of back spin
I would suggest that using a standard grip is best. The standard grips allow you to develop all the strokes the top players can play. However I haven't seen your grip so if you really believe it is better for some reason then maybe it's OK. However as a general guide I'd recommend nearly all players to use either the shakehand or penhold grips.
